Right now I'm spittin' mad! I ordered a new table cloth and 8 napkins from Dillard's and it's bad enough it took them 3 weeks to deliver it but the napkins arrived with a paper tag on the outside corner. I did my best to peel most of them off and then washed them as directed (cold/cold) and dried at low heat. Well, I'm left with 8 napkins that have either bits of pieces and sticky residue or just sticky residue.

I've contacted Dillard's by email...too po'd to talk with someone right now but was wondering if anyone had an idea to remove the residue? I can't use a petroleum based product on cloth so goof-off is out. I was wondering about white vinegar but wasn't' sure if it would work on residue.

Any thoughts?

I would be so pizzed too! I just looked in my Queen of Clean book but nothing is listed.

I will keep looking on line.

Thanks, Jodi. I did see online where someone mentioned duct tape...put it on the area rub with your fingers and then pull off quickly. I'm just hesitant on brand new napkins but it's sounding like the best option so far...

Susan - I wonder if rubbing an ice cube on the residue would help? I'd give that a try.

Two other ideas I found are:
1. Use talc
2. Use a flat blunt knife and scrape. This was for the example silly putty off fabric. I am not so sure about it.

I would try Goo-Gone. It's basically just orange oil so I don't think it would harm the cloth. That being said, if you can't get the residue off they're ruined anyway and you'll have to send them back, so you don't have much to lose IMO by trying the Goo-gone. But goo-gone works for me very well although I never tried it on cloth.

Do you have one of those Mr. Clean erasers? Just an after thought.
Let us know if anything works. Good luck.

Okay, it was a combination of things with a helping of elbow grease. I used the eraser sponge to remove the paper left from the tags, used the ice to stiffen the residue and the blunt knife to scrape it off.

I would have gone to the store if I'd needed the goo-gone but glad I didn't have to make the 40-mile trip! But it's going on my shopping list!

Thanks again for the help!:)

I'm glad you found a solution. I was just about to post that I think Goo-Gone might cause an oil stain on cloth.

I'm glad you found a solution. I was just about to post that I think Goo-Gone might cause an oil stain on cloth.

I once used Goo Gone on one of my daughter's shirts where she had put a sticker and then sucked on it so that a sticky residue was left. I had tried everything and was one step away from throwing the shirt in the trash, so I went ahead and tried Goo Gone. It worked just fine, didn't leave a stain on the cloth...there are even directions on the bottle for use on fabrics.

FWIW

I've used a clothes steamer to remove sticky stuff before with some luck. Sometimes it will loosen up what you are trying to remove so that it will rub off onto something else like on old T-shirt rag.

I would try the other things mentioned first because they are easier.

I'm not even sure if my steamer still works! Or that I even know where it is!:p

I'm sure I've used Goo-gone on fabric -- used Dawn to help break up the oils, rinsed well before washing.
