OT: Murder Mystery Party Ideas

I'm getting a head start on planning a party for mid October. I am trying to put together a murder mystery party for between 12-16 guests with a full dinner planned.

Any past experience from this well partied group? TIA :)

A friend of mine hosted a murder mystery party which was soooo FUN!! There were eight people in total-- we all were assigned a certain character beforehand and dressed like that character (or so we imagined him/her). This was a mystery that took place in a Mexican village, so the host made enchiladas and everyone else brought extras so that we had a complete Mexican fiesta with lots of margaritas! It was truly a memorable party... The weather even played its role--it was rainy with lightning at the right times, etc... perfect for a mysterious evening!

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like it was a fun evening. Do you know if the evening was planned using a boxed
murder mystery game, or if they used a company to script it for them? I've checked into both and I'm leaning towards a customized mystery. TIA

Yes, my friend used a boxed game. It was an eight player game. I don't know if some of the boxed games are geared toward more than eight guests?? If not, you may be better off having it scripted. Either way, it will be a blast!
