I read your post right as the boards went kaput! I hope that you are feeling better!
I thought I might point you to a product ( no, I don't work for the company in any way) that might help you out. Have you ever tried glutamine? Glutamine is an amino acid that is the primary fuel source used by the cells that line the gastrointestinal tract. There have been studies showing that supplementing glutamine before, during and after radiation treatment to the pelvis can decrease the severity of radiation enteritis. Your MD probably didn't suggest glutamine because up until now there has been no good pharmaceutical grade source.
Check out cambridgenutra.com for more information. Of course you will want to run this by your MD first even though it is an over the counter "dietary supplement".
Let me just say that for the most part I am very skeptical and down right against "dietary supplements" but I feel this company has great research and makes pharmaceuticals - usually a safe bet.
