We had the tree up for a week. It is somewhat smaller than I usually get. The lights were on it for the week. DH put my Hallmark motion ornaments on first (took over an hour), Garret, DH and I finished decorating at apprx.
8:15 and at 9:00 the friggin' tree FELL!

Garret is crying his eyes out and looking to write Santa a new note about the tree. He had to do the same thing last year because the tree fell then too.
Before he was born DH and I had 2 trees fall on us. One of them fell apprx. 3 times!

We are cursed!! I am so pissed and sad right now.

I ditto BOBMARK and say BAH HUMBUG!

Oh, and to top it off, the Hallmark go into a spot on the string of lights. So when it fell and the ornaments popped off, the whole row of lights went out and now we have to find where the ornaments Fit!
Different ones only fit into certain ones! Without figuring it out, the lights WON'T work.
Bleh!

Oh no! So sorry to hear about the disaster! Good luck recovering from it.

I had friends come over for coffee today. They asked to see our tree. I pointed to big box in the corner of the room and said, "isn't it pretty?" :D

I am sorry - how frustrating!!

What type of tree stand do you have? Maybe it is time to get a new one???

Sorry to hear about your tree problem. We had three trees fall before we decided that we needed to go artificial. The last one was held up with fishing line to a post on the stairway.

Best of luck to you getting it all together again. I know it's frustrating.

What a pain! Was your son just sad, or did the tree falling scare him? I have always used fishing line to tie up the tree. We put ours in front of a window, and I put 2 small nails in the top of the window molding at each corner, then tie the fishing line around the trunk at the top. I have had several friends have their tree fall and I don't even want to think about all the work that goes into getting it up again.

I hope it doesn't take too long to figure out the lights.

That stinks - I hope you didn't lose any ornaments! I've never had a tree fall (furiously knocking on wood now)! I'm thinking you might need a new stand, since my trees have always been really sturdy. You can give them a good shake and everything, and we don't tie them up. I do remember trees falling at my parents house, but they used one of those little weenie metal stands. We bought ours at Target - I think it's called the Ultimate Christmas Tree Stand.

Well, we used to have a real tree then went artificial. Then we went real again. Our trees are HUGE and usually tied down. I thought this year wouldn't be a problem but I guess I am WRONG!

Garret is sleeping now but I think his crying was due to the fact he was crushed that his hard work got ruined. I mean there was no calming him down. I asked if he could help and he was in his room just hyperventilating.
It obviously will be okay but ya know, it just sucks!
Tomorrow is another day and the tree will get fixed.

Leightx,
I did lose ornaments and most of them were the ones I got from my parents in 2004 when they died.
The stand is one of those big, deep green ones, so it shouldn't have fallen.
From now on, whatever the size, that sucker is getting bolted to the wall!

Jodi,
Sorry to hear about your tree. Many years ago, I had a tree fall. No one was home; we came back to the house and the tree was on its side. Fortunately we didn't lose any ornaments.

The next year I put tiny hooks on the woodwork on either side and, from then on, we tied the tree so it couldn't fall.

Several years later we went to artificial, and it's no longer an issue.

I don't know if the tree stand comes with holes or DH put them in, but he nailed or screwed ours to a big piece of wood and we have never lost a tree yet.

Jumping in again.....

We always had the big sturdy tree holders and then put that on top of a piece of 2x2 wood. Some trees are just not meant to stand up once cut and we always checked for a straight trunk. Good luck!!

We always get a huge-a** tree--over 14 feet tall. We attached a metal tree stand to a piece of plywood and then weigh down the plywood with old hand weights and lead bars from my granpa's lure-making days. Our cats pulled the tree down one year and our trees defiantely sway without the weights! So sorry to hear about your bad luck with trees! Just makes the holidays more stressful :(

That was us too until last night. I gave my husband "the look" (;) ) and he knew it could no longer be put off :D . So now we have a sad looking fake tree with no lights and no ornaments, but hey, at least it is out of the box. Guess it is now up to me to complete it. I wanted a real tree but I refuse to pay $150 for a small little thing that has been in storage for well over a month and might not even last unitl Christmas.

Update:

DH got up this a.m. and had it all fixed before I got up. He went strand by strand to find out exactly which motion ornaments plugged into what.
He fixed the tree and made it look great again.
When I woke Garret up for school he was pleasantly surprised.

Motto of the story: I don't care if I have a Charlie Brown Tree next year----it is getting screwed and stabilized anyways. :p
