View Full Version : Quick fashion question--pantyhose color

I know we have discussed pantyhose here in the past but I have a specific question as to pantyhose color. It has been a very long time since I have worn hose (not being a fan of pantyhose, I usually go bare-legged or at the most wear tights with my boots).
Anyhow, I will be wearing a full-length, solid black, "formal-ish" kind of dress to a holiday party and it has a very long slit up the side of one leg (thus my leg will show). I think I will need to wear hose since I am not thrilled with how my not-tanned legs look against the black dress.
So, my question is--do I wear nude hose or sheer black hose? My shoes are dressy, black, closed-toe sandals. Are sheer black hose still in style? Any thoughts?
TIA!!!

Well, according to Oprah's stylist who was on a few weeks ago, you should be wearing very sheer black hose with that.
He did a whole show on dressing for work and also had some evening wear on. Everyone had black hose on. He even showed a model with nude hose and pointed out how bad it looked (and it did on that show).

Thanks for the advice--I am relieved to know I won't look out of place with black hose on...

As I'm sure you will, just make sure they are a very good quality, sheer hose.

I would also go black.
And you must post a picture of your sexy leg-slit dress! (spoken from someone who has absolutely no occasion to wear such a fabulous dress!)

I would do nude with a little shimmer but honestly I think you could do either and it would look great. Just ditto on the high quality hose or it will look tacky.

Thanks for the reminders about the high quality hose...I realized after reading the replies and checking my hose that I did in fact need to buy some new sheer hose...I bought two pairs or really sheer, barely black hose and will see which one looks better with the dress.
SusanMac: I am nervous about wearing the dress to begin with, b/c it is not normally of the type I wear. I am hoping the long slit won't have me overly self-conscious all evening...to top it all off, I really can not wear a bra with this dress:o, due to how it is made to fit (let's just say it is a bit body-hugging:o :o )...the dress has been sitting in my closet with the tags on it forever. Is it a high-priced dress that I bought from Nordstom Rack a year or two ago when it was on serious, steep discount--I think I got it for $25.00 or $35.00-it was the last dress of its type on the rack, which happened to be my size, and it contained a very minor flaw that is not noticeable--hence the inexpensive price), but I have been too shy to wear it (up to now)...UGH!!! I am nervous...but at least DH will be with me...

$35 for an evening dress! What a steal. Gotta love Nordstrom Rack!
DH's support & a nice glass of wine will have you feeling confident in no time :-)

Nevermind the heads that you'll be turning (in a good way) when they get a look at that dress. You go girl!

Thanks Robyn (and everyone) for the support/advice!! I just hope I do not slip in my heels...the weather is forcasted to include light snow/rain/ice pellets or some combo thereof...so assuming the event is not cancelled, it's going to be a fun drive to get there (Robyn: I remember that you said that you used to live in Northern Virginia--so you probably remember how it is here when it snows or otherwise exhibits snow-like weather...)
In any event, I will remember a former co-worker's sage advice--she said whenever you are feeling less than confident or self-conscious--purposefully walk with your chin tilted up and "own the room". Well, I do not know about the owning the room part, but I have tried the 'chin up' thing and it does work...:)

Make your husband drop you off and pick you up at the door and then wait just inside for him to make your entrance.
