View Full Version : Snow!
We probably got 10 inches of snow here in Chesterton, In, [NW]and it is still coming down and blowing around. DH has been out there shoveling since 3:55 a.m. so he can get out to go work out and go to church at 5:45 a.m. I'm staying right here because I know that parking lot will not be plowed and I don't want to get stuck.
I bought some baking supplies yesterday in anticipation of the storm plus I have school work to do, so I am all set for the day. A nice fire will make the day.
How about everyone else in this area? Snow?

We got about 2 inches of snow and now we are having an ice storm that should last most of the day. I will be home all day.
I decided yesterday that my close friends are getting platters of eggplant parm. as a Christmas present. In the next couple of minutes I will start making the gravy (or as some call it, tomato sauce) and slicing and soaking the eggplant. This house will be smelling good!!!
Then we will build our candy house. I just put the house together then the kids decorate!
The day will end with watching the GIANTS!!!!!
Stay safe and warm everyone!

We had almost 5 inches on the ground from the last storm, but from this one, all we've gotten is sleet and freezing rain - yuck! Now the snow that was there is all crunchy and no fun at all. And now we're supposed to get rain. Bleh. But rain is better than freezing rain, so I guess I'll take it. But snow would be better!!!!
We had ice this past week, too, and I'll take the snow over the ice. It's still snowing and blowing:( , but it's lake effect now and that is bad!

Well, enjoy the baking and the fire!
I keep checking the radar to see what might be coming and it's really weird - it keeps skirting to the west and/or east of us - we're in this strange pocket in the middle that is escaping most of the accumulation, etc. And if it's going to just be a wintry mix anyway, that's definitely a good thing!
Weird that you all are getting snow and we have a wintry mix - we must be far enough east to be getting the effect of warming temps from the ocean or something..........

We're also getting snow here - lots of it. I think it may later start to be mixed with ice pellets, but am glad it's not so far. Looks like we have about 6-7 inches so far, but I haven't yet ventured out with the dog to see.
Alysha, I hear you on the sleet and freezing rain - blech.

It is coming down hard here with a windchill of 5 below zero. This makes 5 snowstorms in the past two weeks.

Well of course not! Where are they supposed to go? It's over their heads! :D
Cody is a snow fiend. He had to go outside no fewer than 5 times yesterday.
Came in with "old man beard" full of snow every time...

I'm in Indianapolis and we got about 6" with a layer of ice in-between. I was prepared though! We have plenty of food and wine to keep us happy for a while!!

We are in the country NW of West Lafayette, IN. Snow and wind here too! It would be a welcome snow day BUT my DH had 16 guys scheduled to come this afternoon for a train session. We have a model train in our basement. He has been working so hard this last 10 - 12 weeks to get ready for today and now he is having to cancel. DANG!!
We have plenty of food. I have most of my baking done, so I am wrapping gifts today and looking outside at the blowing snow. :)

Bailey loves the snow too and asks to go out a lot. He also eats a lot of the snow which only causes him to need to go out even more.
But he is not digging this ice-covered snow so much.....
Right now it's raining and sleeting. I'm off to take a shower in case it starts to cause havoc with the power lines, etc. And gotta squeeze in a little baking too.......

To all of you who are snowbound ... might a suggest a snowmobile (we make several nice models;) ) Just had to get a plug in as the snow has been so poor the last several years that sales have been poor and as that is part of our buiness I feel I have to do my little part:p
Can someone mention this to my boss as he doesn't really feel I'm into the whole scene, something to do with dog sleds and horses and not powersports:rolleyes:

Yesterday started with Christmas shopping in a small-town "downtown" while 6" of snow came down in big, gorgeous flakes. We went a few miles south and ran smack into the wintry mix - there were several inches on the ground, but rain fell the entire evening.
We're currently holed up in our house, cleaning and putting the final touches on the Christmas decorations. Winds are gusting like mad (45 mph at times) and are buffeting our west-facing house. There's a rabbit curled up on the lee side of a tire on the pickup, and he just looks miserable. I can't tell what snow is falling and what snow is blowing.
The in-laws are arriving tomorrow (for a 2-week stay). They're arriving in Detroit, so it might be a messy drive!
