I was curious, for those that tip your newspaper delivery person (7 day delivery), how much do you tip?

I think he is the only tip that I give -- I get my paper everyday, maybe missed one day in all the years (and a neighbor could have helped themselves). He certainly can't get paid that much, plus he has to get up so early to deliver the papers, and during the winter often has to deal with ice, sleet, snow --- to me, I think that is worth a tip. Love having the paper on my doorstep in the morning.

I've heard of such different amounts, just wondering.

TIA

I have no idea how I would even get a tip to my delivery person since I pay electronically.

My sister receives anywhere from $10.00 to $50.00 for a tip. ($100.00 a couple of times) She is newspaper extroidinaire, though. She has informed 911 of two break-ins (in progress) and has reported two or three housefires.

She takes the paper to the porch and puts in designated place. Her customers tell her when they go on vacation and she holds their papers until they arrive back home. She is very thorough and I am amazed when she tells me what her tips were for the year. And her route is all on hills. Steep hills where a lot of times she has to walk up many steps. She has also wrecked her car twice, hitting ice and not being able to stop.

She is retired and does it for the extra income.

This is why the delivery person sometimes puts a self-addressed card or envelope with the paper. Someone was objecting to this practice on another thread. I have automatic payments for the paper, and I never see the guy, so I don't know how else I would tip him. BTW, I don't feel that I have to because of the card, though. It just makes it possible. And to answer the original question, I'm sending him (or her--I really don't even know) $20.00.

I gave my guy a $20 GC to Applebees. He put a Merry Christmas Card with a return envelope in the paper a couple weeks ago. I also auto pay, so this is my time of year to tip.

Okay... hopefully this isn't too much of a hijack, but our weekend delivery person (we only get the paper on the weekends) enclosed the self addressed blank card today. How much should I tip them? We've only received their service since May (when we moved). $10?

We get our paper only on the weekends, and pay once a year. But we give our delivery guy $10. The newspaper puts out a calendar and when he delivers that, he includes a little holiday letter thanking us for being customers, wishing us a happy holiday, etc. He includes a self addressed envelope. There is a spot on the bill where you can include a tip, but I think I would wonder if the carriers actually get it! We send him a holiday card with the $10. Anyone that can get up that early to deliver papers at or before the crack of dawn certainly derserves a little something.

I would give him 20 dollars that is an ok price. And besides 20 dollars is better than 0 dollars.

Sent this check last night - included $28.80 which is the cost of one billing cycle and about 15% of the regular annual subscription price for the year (I am on a discounted subscription but figured you calculate based on the pre-coupon total, like at a restaurant). I can't remember the last time our paper was missing and it is sooo nice to have it waiting at the door.
