Hope you don't mind, Tracy and please excuse me if this has been posted before.
I was reading through some archived articles from Wegmans and happened upon this excerpt about their Ultimate Chocolate Cake (which is quite good, btw). It's from 2005:
ROCHESTER, NY - Melt-in-your-mouth tender. Chocolate flavor so rich and intense, it won’t quit. That’s what an Ultimate Chocolate Cake experience is all about, say Wegmans customers who participated in a recent survey.
Now, Wegmans is gearing up to deliver the Ultimate Chocolate Cake by inviting its 30,000-plus employees to compete in a ‘Cake-Off’ to choose the chocolate cake that will become the company’s signature offering.
Gale Gand, the Food Network’s Diva of Desserts, will help choose the winning cake at the final ‘Cake-Off,’ June 8, 2005 at Wegmans corporate office. Also on the judges panel will be the company’s CEO, Danny Wegman, and award-winning baker Tracy ********* of ******. Ms. *********, a Wegmans customer, won the top category prize in the 2003 Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest for her goat cheese with sundried tomatoes appetizer.
“It’ll be fun to experience a baking contest from the other perspective,” said Ms. ********. “I’m thrilled to have been asked. I love baking, but it’s so much harder than cooking. With cooking, if things aren’t coming out right, there’s plenty of room for adjustment. With baking, there’s practically no room. If it’s not right, you may have to scrap that batch and start over.”
How cool! :) Didn't their Ultimate Chocolate Cake just come out last year? Looks like it took a good year or so to go into production.
Love to hear any details about the experience if you'd like to share. :)
Last year I answered one of their surveys about the ultimate brownie. I went into a lot of detail with my answers and wondered what they thought of someone who spent so much time filling out a brownie survey??!!
I would LOVE to compete in a Wegmans recipe contest, but looks like they only open it to employees - which is nice, but not. ;)
