View Full Version : Need advice on gluing photos to calendar - help from scrapbookers? Crafty people?

I made a calendar for a friend using a blank 2008 calendar I bought at Current and printed out photos that I had.
The photos are not scanned in and part of the calendar. I am just printing them on good photo paper and now I need to attach them to the calendar.
The photos will fill the page above the pre-printed calendar. What is the best way to attach them? Glue stick probably isn't the best idea - it might be lumpy.
Any ideas what I should use to glue on the photos?
TIA!

Most craft/scrapbook stores have multiple options for adhesives. I've used and like a type of double-sided tape stuff that comes in rollers for easy application.

Michaels, JoAnn's, or any craft store will have what you need.
I love this stuff. (http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=sb0154&channelid=)

My first thought was rubber cement.

Sandy that looks like good stuff. Is it repositionable? I think since I have to get the photo edges just right and flush with the calendar's edges it would be nice to have something that is.
Is this product squares that go in the corners of the photo? Would you recommend something that adheses (is that a word?? :D) all over the photo? Or if this stuff comes in squares, putting a bunch of squares all over the back of the photo?
I don't think I should have any gaps since the photo fills the entire calendar page.
Thanks!

Loren - craft stores do have different squares that can be removed and replaced, but I personally prefer something more permanent. On some of my Christmas cards this year, when I used removeable squares, some of the parts fell off.
Don't go crazy using them - a little goes a long way IMO. For a 5x8 photo, for instance, I'd put one square in each corner, and two on each side. This particular product does come on a roller, but there's really no need to overdo it, and it seems like a waste to me.
If you have a craft store nearby, stop in and talk to one of the salespeople, telling them about your project; hopefully they can guide you to exactly what you're looking for. :)

OK - that makes sense. I won't get the repositionable.
We have an AC Moore that I could get to on my lunch hour and their website has a zillion things for scrapbooking adhesives. I will look at the Vario stuff and probably get that if you like it so much but I'll see if there is anyone working there who can advise me too.

Hi Loren,
As an alternative, could you trim the photos so they are slightly smaller than the calendar page size and mount them using picture corners? In case your friend would like to keep the pictures?

I wanted to stay away from trimming because of course an original piece of paper is perfectly cut and looks professional! So it looks nice that way. If she wants to keep the pictures she can cut them away from the calendar. ;)

I just got done making a calendar where I inserted pictures of myself onto the calendar picture.....Picture of me snowshoeing in Winter scene....picture of me raking leaves in Fall scene...etc.
I had the photos transfered onto good paper, as you mentioned doing and then I just used regular double-sided tape to attach. Worked just fine.
My sister has made a few calendars like the one I did, and she used rubber cement...that worked well also.
cheers....nancy

I ended up with Scotch brand double sided scrapbooking tape. I am the most un-crafty person on this planet :D and this looked like even I could use it, which I did. Although I messed it up a bit by not paying attention to how far from the edge to put the tape due to the photo size, I learned quickly where to put them all.
That Vario stuff looked like it would be excellent but the dispenser part and the fact that it came out in little squares was stressing me out  so I went for the oldfashioned double stick tape.
The final result was fine!
