We've recently had to get rid of our Drinkwell Pet Fountain. We've had it for about 3.5 years and it began to leak slightly.

After about a month of constantly filling up water bowls for our 4 cats, I'm in the market for another pet fountain.

I was fairly happy with the Drinkwell that we had. It held about 75 ounces of water and the cats liked it. However, I decided to do a little research before buying the same one I had before.

And I found the Drinkwell Platinum Fountain--made by the same company, but improved (according to the makers) and it holds 168 ounces of water.

I read the reviews on Amazon and they are mostly positive, but I was wondering if any of you all have tried the Drinkwell Platinum.

Thanks!

My idiot cat won't figure out how to drink from our regular sized one. Maybe we can make a deal for it.

We love the Drinkwell...we're on our second. Is the Platinum just a larger version?

Anyone know if there's something like this that can keep water ice cold? Cody loves to drink his water this way and it would be nice if he could have "his water" all the time.

My cat loves her water and would love to drink from the tap if I'd let her. I've thought about the fountain.

How often do you have to take them apart and clean them?

CindyWeightWatcher:
The Platinum version holds more water (about 160 oz) and is supposed to be an improvement over the original. Here's the blurb from their website:

The Drinkwell® Platinum pet fountain is the ultimate in style and design. This all new design utilizes the same patented free-falling stream of water as the original Drinkwell® which entices pets to drink more, keeping them happy, healthy and hydrated. The Platinum features; a new snap on lid to prevent accidental removal, a pre-filter to catch large particles before they reach the motor, and a new submersible pump for nearly silent operation. With the same quality that consumers have come to rely on, the Drinkwell® Platinum is a culmination of 10 years experience in making pet fountains

Erin M:
Based on my experience with our first fountain, the water is kept cold by the circulation, but I wouldn't say it is ICE cold.

KristiB:
With the old Drinkwell, I took it apart for cleaning every other week. We have really hard water here in Austin, so I used filtered water to try and cut down on the amount of residue buildup on the motor.

I guess nobody has the new version. I'm going to look at it in the store today---if it looks okay, I'm going to buy it.

Thanks,
