A while ago, there was a thread about how our cooking compares to our MIL's. My MIL has some GREAT! signature meals, but overall is pretty repetative. She ok.

Thanks to CL, and this BB for making me more adventurous, my MIL told me that I am a great cook, and that I should be a chef. She has also asked for many a recipe.

How's that for a compliment? If it wasn't for all the great reviews, I wouldn't ahve made 1/10 of the recipes I have made.

My IL's are over every Sunday, and that's usually my adveturous cooking day. They are my guinea pigs for most recipes (along with my DH of course). And believe it or not, I enjoy cooking for them (or anyone for that matter).

So, thanks guys.

What a great compliment! Hope you bask in that for a long while.

What a great pat on the back, Julia. Great to hear!

I don't remember that prior thread you refer to, but I absolutely cannot speak of that experience. My mother was a horrible cook - she can probably still screw up boiling water! As for my MIL, she was a decent cook, but just never liked it and never put in a great deal of effort to make really good food, according to my wife. She was always very busy with other things. I can't help but get an amused expression when I'm asked if I learned cooking from my mother!:D (I guess I learn how not to cook!).

I, too, have tried recipes based solely on the reviews here.

And, by the way, love your title!

Very very cool, Julia  Congratulations- it feels so good to be recognized by the people we love. I have yet to cook for my in-laws, but I love cooking for my family- it is so meaningful and rewarding-a piece of me goes into every meal!

I have the same relationship with my IL's. They're great people and since all my family is in Belgium it's nice to have them. I love to cook for them too even if they are less adventurous than I am. I even offered a CL subscription for my MIL mothersday. She loves it. We talk a lot about food. I think she has been my inspiration because she's a great cook and I didn't use to cook at all ( I was married for 20 years to a chef before coming here so I could barely cook something decent). Now cooking has becomed kind of an obsession but I love it.:)
