I managed to score a couple of tickets to the BCS National Championship game January 7. I am trying to find a place to stay would love to have some recommendations of what suburbs of New Orleans are good bets. I just need something that is clean and safe as I will only be staying a couple of nights and most of that time will be wrapped up in bowl game activities. I will be driving down from Atlanta.
Thank you for the help. I spent a couple of hours on the internet last night and really didn't know enough about neighborhoods to make a decision.
Thanks again,
Cheryl

I'd choose the Hyatt or a hotel close to the Superdome if it was me. Any of the major hotels are safe, just don't go down dark alleys at night. Metairie is a safe suburb if you want to look online, but I'm not sure what hotels are actually in Metairie and which ones are in New Orleans proper. I'd stay away for small, old hotels in the French Quarter. The last time I stayed in one, the elevator did not work and there was no ice machine in the hotel at all. Kenner is another suburb you might check out. It's where the airport is located.

There is a Hampton Inn in Metairie. It is next to Whole Foods and Lakeside Mall. They offer a free shuttle to the French Quarter. It is clean and safe.

When we were checking, almost everyplace was booked! The places that did have rooms left were all over $300 a night. You may have to locate something out of the city and drive in. Then again, I heard parking will be a nightmare. We are staying across the river about 7 miles from the stadium and are hoping for good public transportation! We had friends who made reservations at a couple places a few months ago - "just in case". Rates were still reasonable then.

Hi Cheryl;
I'm not sure if they have availability, but we usually stay with Philip and David at Royal Street Courtyard B and B. It's in the Marigny so you would still have to get to the superdome..but I'm thinking you may have more luck with B and B's than hotels near the airport/city.

good luck!

If everything in N.O. is booked, you might try either a B&B, BR, or the North Shore.
