Hi everyone,
No, I don't have a question about the baking time or temperature for buns...
I just thought I would share a little news.
I am going to be a mommy!!!
My darling husband and I are expecting our first child on Valentine's Day. I am nine weeks pregnant.
I'm soooo excited! :)

Valerie,
I wanted to be the one to tell everyone!!!!
Yes, I am so thrilled about this grandchild. Part of our wedding vow was "may you live to see your children's children" and we want to keep our vows.
As an aside in case you notice Valerie hasn't been posting her numerous reviews.....you guessed it morning sickness and I don't think anything is tasting too good right now.

What exciting news Valerie. Congratuations! My baby's due date was Valentine's Day 2001, but he was exactly two weeks early arriving on Feb. 1/01. It is such an amazing experience. Enjoy your pregnancy and the anticipation of your upcoming arrival.

CONGRATULATIONS Val! That is so exciting!!! And of course, another congrats goes to Maizeyoats on her future grandma status.
I also want to thank you for all those wonderful bar cookie recipes from Eating Well. I have tried 3 so far, but I am on a mission to try them all(eventually!). Our favorite so far is the Whole wheat blueberry bars, #2 was the Cranberry Granola Blondies(I used dried cherries), and #3(but still tasty) are the chocolate cherry bars.

I think your replies are so thoughtful...thank you.
Some of you actually make reference to some of my past posts. Others simply express heartfelt thoughts. The great thing is that I know you guys are so sincere.
It is hard to "enjoy" the pregnancy when you are feeling rotten, but these notes help me keep it in perspective. It truly is (and will be) an amazing experience.

Valerie...
One thing to try for morning sickness is sniffing freshly cut lemons. I learned about this in one of my nutrition classes a few years back and it seemed to help me when I was pregnant. Of course, what works for one person does not work for another. It also helped me to drink water with a lemon wedge in it.
Good Luck!

Wow -- many congratulations Val (and maizeyoats on her new status as well!) What a blessing you are experiencing!
By the way, I've heard that eating a piece of peanut butter toast before you go to bed at night is a way to help with the morning sickness. I've never been pregnant (although we're hoping :D), so I can't attest to the validity of this comment! I suppose it may be worth a try!
Again, congratulations!

Congratulations valchemist and maizeyoats!
One cute idea that my sister had was that she carried with her a little notebook, and everytime someone would give her advise on pregancy, morning sickness :) , or babies she would write it in her little notebook. It's really cute and funny to look back and hear all the different ideas that people have. Some of the advise was really wise, and some of it was really silly.

maizeyoats.....I was just thinking.....maybe you could change your name from Senior Member to "Grandma to Be" or something like that. :D
VAl-Congrats to you and your hubby, and to Maizeyoats and the rest of the family, too!!!
I found sucking lemon drops helped my morning sickness.....hope you feel better soon!:p

Congratulations Mom-to-be and Grandma-to-be! How exciting! In just a few weeks you should start to feel much, much better. As someone else mentioned, my doctor always said that morning sickness was a sign that the hormones were "doing their thing" just the way they were supposed to. Once you start feeling better, the next few months will be so much fun. Congrats! Gaye

Val and Maizeyoats,
CONGRATULATIONS!!! to both of you!
Val, I know talking about food sometimes can just make you sick when you have morning sickness, but the best thing is to try and eat something, even if it's just saltines, those always seem to help! good luck I'm sure this will pass soon!
Maizeyoats, I'm sure you'll be a great grandma, spoiling grandchildren is always so much fun!

Thanks again for the encouragement and for the suggestions, everyone! I will certainly try some of them.
Yes, just thinking about some foods makes me feel nauseous.
There was even a point where I couldn't bring myself to read the BB post titles because the names of the recipes turned my stomach!
Things have gotten better since then, however.
MamaSue and others, Maizeyoats is already a grandma. She has one beautiful granddaughter who will be two in September. But she is really looking forward to having another baby to spoil.

Congratulations, valchemist!! I don't know if you ever check out the Healthy Living board, but there are several of us preggers girls over there doing a lot of posting. Its been going for quite a while, several of the girls have already had there babies, and two more are getting ready to in August. Come join us!!! Its a very supportive group, I have learned a lot from talking to everyone. And I have to say, I am just getting back to checking out this board, because during my first trimester, the thought of food did make me too sick. I didn't even look at my last two CL issues!
Congratulations! How exciting. This is great news.
Keep us posted as to how the pregnancy is progessing. Will you try to find out the sex of the baby before you deliver?
Pat
Just wanted to add my congratulations to the list! DH and I aren't trying for kids yet (just enjoying the practicing ;) ), but we're getting closer to that point and I've learned so much by reading along with the "pregnant ladies" on the Healthy Living board. I feel like I'll be so much more prepared when my time comes!
Enjoy this very special time with your husband! Best wishes!

Thanks for letting me know about the pregnacy thread on the Healthy Living Board. I never go over there. I will check it out.
Jen - we weren't "trying" either. but I guess the practicing got out of hand. oops!
Pat - we aren't sure yet whether we'll find out the sex of the baby. I used to think I wanted it to be a surprise, but now I am kind of leaning towards finding out.

Congratulations Valerie! Hopefully the morning sickness will pass quickly! I've also heard about the Lemon Drops and also Lemon Zinger Tea. Seems the lemons do the trick! Wouldn't know personally, 'cause I'm a DINK (dual income no kids!) but friends have sworn by the lemon! Good luck! Is Hubby doing cartwheels around the front yard yet? ;)

Valerie,
Congratulations! And one word on the morning sickness...saltines! Every morning, bedside, 3 pregnancies, before the head left the pillow! Sometimes my DH was very Darling and would put jelly on them for me!
Maizeyoats!
Many good wishes on becoming a grandma/granny/nanna/mimi/mimaw...OK, what's it gonna be?

Just wanted to add my CONGRATULATIONS also! How exciting! You'll have to keep us informed. I have to live vicariously through others. We just recently moved into a bigger house so we'd have room for kids. Now we can't afford to have any! My clocking isn't just ticking anymore. It's BOOMING !
Congratulations Maisyoats also! (Oh great! Now I've got that little rhyme in my head again! :D )

Jewel - no cartwheels yet...he is just now getting over the shock...it wasn't planned. but we are both very happy.
Sneezles - I definitely have the saltines on hand...mmmm, jelly on saltines. haven't tried that. sounds good. Maizey will be known as "grandma."
Heidi - I know about the ticking clock thing...I'm 31 and was getting very antsy for kids. So even though we were planning to wait at least a year (for financial reasons) I am happy the "accident" happened.
I am so happy for you and your husband. Here is something you can do. Clip out your favorite recipes and create a recipe box for your child.

To Everyone,
I want to thank you all for congratulating Valerie (and me) on this special news. When I heard she was pregnant I said I can hardly wait to share this with everyone on the BB. We really feel you are all extended family and like all families we like to share our tribulations (like Emily running the marathon) and the trials(like when Jewel had to lose those last few pounds to have her surgery and then suffering through that darn tube with her)
On this board we are not tunnel-visioned. Although our main focus is cooking light we are much more then that. There are a lot of great websites have have wonderful recipes; but there is no website like this one where we can go O.T. because we are about more then just eating. We really are about caring for one another.
You just have no idea how happy we are for all your good wishes and kind thoughts.
