Help me please! My cat has an eye infection and the vet prescribed an antibiotic ointment to be applied 3 times a day for 7-10 days. My cat has always been on the cranky side, so I knew this wasn't going to be easy. After several attempts last night that literally left me in tears from frustration and my hand scratched and bitten I was able to apply the medicine just as she was falling asleep.

This morning, she wanted nothing to do with me. She hid from me, refused a treat, scratched and hissed if I got too close, etc. I even left work this morning to try a second time with no success. I'm afraid I won't be able to give her all 3 treatments today since I haven't even managed one. I know tonight, and the next 6 days aren't going to be any better.

Is there anything I can give her that would calm her down enough to be able to help her? I almost feel to the point of giving up and have been frustrated to tears twice now, but I know she needs to get better.

How are you positioned when trying to give her this? I would trap her on the floor between your legs (you kneeling) with her facing forward so that you can grab her head and put them on. If you need to do this with her wrapped in a towel. Good luck, I know it's not fun.

So sorry kitty is sick! We recently went through this with our cat Tiger. We wrapped him in a towel, held him tightly, and I spoke to him and told him it was ok, that the doctor said he needed his drops (he had drops). Sounds silly, but after the first couple of times he got "used" to the "routine". He always ran like heck after it was done, but he just tensed up when we did it. DH made sure he held him firmly but gently, so he knew he wasn't getting away. Good Luck!!

I haven't tried kneeling with her between my legs and that might be worth trying if I can get her to trust me long enough to get near her. I did wrap her in a towel twice last night; once while I was holding her and once my husband held her but she struggled so much and managed to bite anytime I got my hand close to her head. I also tried kind of tucking her under my arm so I could hold on to her by the scruff of the neck and I got pretty close doing that.

I wish they could have given her an oral antibiotic or at least drops. The ointment is really thick and not easy at all!
