In case you all were wondering what has happened to all that steel from the WTC, 24 tons of it went into this ship. The USS New York (LPD-21)
From Wikipedia (also confirmed by Snopes, among others)
Twenty-four tons of the steel used in its construction came from the rubble of the World Trade Center, Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite , LA to cast the ship's bow section. It was poured into the molds on Sept 9, 2003. With seven tons melted down and cast to form the ship's "stem bar" — part of the ship's bow.[1] The shipyard workers reportedly treated it with "reverence usually accorded to religious relics", gently touching it as they walked by.[2]
The picture, below, is of the USS San Antonio (LPD-17) but is how the New York looks also.

Sure is. Wish I could claim I took it. Isn't it pretty cool that the New York is made from WTC steel?

Nope, I was being sarcastic. :p Hamm, it looks like you're stealing bandwidth from someone who doesn't like it.

Yep - should just add a link to the page, rather than "hot-linking" the image.

What do you mean someone who doesn't like it?
Is the picture not showing?

No the picture doesn't show. We get a green "smiley face" although it isn't smiling - it's sticking it's tongue out at us....

Grace, didn't something similar happen to you? You could see the proper image but all we got was some nasty note about stealing bandwidth?

You're lucky you got the green face.
I hotlinked once, not understanding the whole bandwidth theft, and ended up with a picture of Goatse
For those who don't know what Goatse is it's an extremely obscene picture that has a cult following.
I haven't hotlinked since!
Cool ship!

I think it's pretty cool how they are reusing the steel in such a memorable and emotional way. And the way the steel workers treated the steel.

I hadn't heard about this; thanks for the heads-up. Seriously cool. Love the motto for the ship ("Never forget") - how fitting.
