I have a glass table for my dining room table (aka my kitchen table, and office desk :D ). The glass is a rectangle, measuring 32X45. Usually use it to sit 1-2, can sit 4 but then not much room on the table for serving dishes etc.

Right now, it sits on a wood/rattan base that is in horrible shape. I've been looking for a replacement table but most are too big. Or, they have small square tables that are a bit small. A round won't work.

I really can't go much bigger that 32X45 (can go a few more), otherwise we might as well be sitting on my couch... Ah, the joys of a small apartment.

I am thinking maybe getting a new base (perhaps metal or lucite). This table is from West Elm (includes the glass).

A smaller version of a base like this would work.

I guess I can go smaller and get something liket this, but not sure about the finish (from West Elm). And, I would think that it could only sit 2 comfortably.

Any ideas on where to get a base for an existing glass top? Or ideas on where to get a whole new table that would fit.

Oh, also need chairs. I saw these at West Elm, but thought they might be too kitcheny (I would get the brown). What do you think of the chairs in the first photo?

A larger apartment would make it much easier. :D If nothing else, I managed to post photos not links, woo hoo!

Many thanks,

Have you looked at Room and Board (http://www.roomandboard.com/)? They have tops and bases (http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/category.do?method=get&id=107) that they sell separately and they have that clean modern look like the photos you posted. Don't know if they have the size you need, but when I was picking out a table, it seemed like they had a large selection.

ETA: I was just hunting around and if they don't have the size you want, they also have a custom option where you can order any size you like. Not sure how pricey that option is, but it's an option.

I love the stuff at Room and Board. We splurged on one bar table with four stools and got a mirror there, but that's it......

Thanks Lindrusso, I forgot all about them. Thanks for reminding me. They do have some bases that are close (they go on round tops). I think a round base on a rectangular top would look strange, but I will definitely look thru their custom stuff too. They certainly have many more options than what I have seen.

I will defintely take a closer look at their website. Too bad they don't have any stores in my area

I love contemporary, but also love a big ol' farm table, but I need a bigger kitchen or for that matter an actual dining room.

Thanks,

As I read the original post Room & Board also came to mind. I know that there are stores in San Francisco, Chicago and Manhattan and there maybe more.

They definitely have rectangular options (http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/collection.do?method=get&id=377412&cat=82). The Portica has the metal finish.

They have a few stores, but only in a handful of states.

Lindrusso --

I could do some damage with that site... they have quite a few things that catch my eye. Hmmm, one of their side tables would be great next to my bed... but I digress. ;)

When I took my first look, just for bases (so I could use my existing glass top), the bases seemed to be more suited for round tables. But I need to reallly spend some time on the site since they have so many options.

I have a feeeling I am going to end up buying a new table, rather than just trying to get a base. Anyone want a 32X45 piece of glass.

Thanks again.

Thanks whocares for also giving a nod to the same site.

Hey BB, keep the ideas coming.

Ooh, they have some nice ottomans (seems like that word should be ottomen)... Wait, stop. I'm not even shopping for furniture. :D
