I'm really excited about this one and wanted to spread the word: Woodward Canyon 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla appellation
My brother and SIL had me over for dinner last night- beef fajitas and grilled vegetables.
I normally don't like Cabs without food, but I finished my first glass before dinner. It went down like liquid velvet. Rich, ripe black plum, tobacco, dark chocolate notes. I'd love to taste this again in 5 years or so, it's aging beautifully. I don't know the cost- I was afraid to ask, but I will be on the lookout. Outstanding.

Thanks for the recommendation. I guess we all forgot about our weekly wine postings. I'm the same way re: Cabs....for me, they seem to need a big meal, whereas I can sip a Pinot all night without food.

Boy are you lucky to have such a nice brother and SIL. I just got off from review this wine and they all raved about it. This winery produces small quantities and this drives the price up. Everything they produce is in the $30.00 plus range. The Cab was $50.00 and you had a 96, OMG. You ought to write a thank you note and mention how much you like the wine. They will appreciate they open the wine and that you LOVED it.

Well, ahem, I don't think I will be buying this one anytime soon- my wine budget falls more in the $15 range. But wow- my dream wine cellar would include this! It 's also worth a visit to the winery in Walla Walla- so many outstanding reds are coming from this region.
Seems to me I have a birthday and wedding anniversary coming up :D
Theresa, where did you find the review?

KValley:
I found a '98 on www.wine.com (Wine Enthusiast gave it a 93, Wine Spectator gave it a 92. The cost for the '98 is $46.19). Wow ... and you tried a '96: I'll bet it was heavenly!!
If you've never tried this website, I think you'll really like it!! (Check out the search function: it lets you pick a price range, manufacturer, wine type (red/white/by varietal) and "other" (i.e." ratings, etc.). Lots to choose from in your price range!
