Oh My! Do you have favorites? The recipes look good as well. The crates look nice too. Does anyone have one? I know, so many questions. TIA.

I love my Penzey's spices, and I will never go back to buying them in the store. Just a word of caution. I way overbought the first time around (I have more basil, cumin, and bay leaves than most restaurants  ) I have also bought the gift packs for Chirstmas and b-day presents. I have made one recipe and it was delicious - certainly not low-fat, but delicious. I would recommend the sandwich sprinkle and the pasta sprinkle. I find myself putting those on a lot of things. I'm telling you, Penzey's is a great find.

I just got my first Penzeys catalog this week! I am seriously looking at the Indian/Curry spices. Can anyone offer some feedback on any of them?

Ooh Robin, my favorite is the Maharajah curry powder! It's definitely the best one for hot dishes. For cold dishes (salads, etc.), I would suggest the regular curry powder. I also have sweet and hot curry powders, and they're good, but I reach for that darn maharajah blend most often, and am always buying a new bottle of that one. HAVE FUN!! For a $1 something you can really afford to buy several things from there and see what you like (the smallest bottles are $1 - $2), and not feel like you've wasted a ton if you don't really like something. SOO much cheaper than the grocery store, and so much fresher and more flavorful. We have a Penzey's STORE near us, and I am forever in there, picking up "just one more" bottle of something to try out!
I just got my first catalog as well -- thanks to the BB. Everything looks so yummy. Thanks for the tip on overbuying, valeriek. This is something I often do!

I've got enough for a small store. i LOVE their spices and the cumin is really fragrant - not like the store stuff and I have so many. I do not like the sprinkle stuff, tho, too salty.
Also, i've said this before, read the ingredients before you buy. If you don't like a lot of salt, watch out for those because they can be very salty...

If you're wanting to know about Penzey's in general (not just the curry options), my absolutely favorite items are ANY of the cinnamons as well as the almond and lemon flavorings. I also use lots of the oregano. My son loves the adobo seasoning. I'm another one of those folks who does that "food snob nose-in-the-air" looks when walking by the spices in grocery stores. :-) I've been buying from Penzey's for several years and have never been unhappy with a purchase. Happy shopping!!

Luv2 cook,
Thanks for the tip on the Penzey sprinkles. I got my catalogue awhile back but still haven't placed an order. My list is sooo huge and I did have a lot of the sprinkle stuff on it; but I definitely do not want salty things.
The past threads that we had on Penzeys were very good if any new member wants to refer to them.
As a result of this BB, I've become a Penzey's fanatic, too. Once I discovered them, I threw away all my old spices, and now my shelves are stocked only with Penzeys.
I really like their Pizza Seasoning. I also like their ground chipotle pepper, adobo seasoning and Brady Street Cheese Sprinkle. They have a new seasoning out that I just ordered and I can't wait to try it!

What I love most about the Penzeys catalog is how passionate he is (I think the owner's name is Bill). I've been ordering from them for at least six years now and religiously read his letter in every catalog. You can just tell from that letter that he REALLY loves spices and cares about what he does (as opposed to some companies that are just out to make a quick buck and forget about quality).
And what valeriek said about over-ordering is totally right. I think I still have all three kinds of cinnamon from my very first order (and I really do use it pretty frequently). But, if all else fails and you do over-order - you can always just share some with your friends and family -- they'll love you even more. :D

Grace, thanks for the feedback. I am seriously thinking about getting the curry gift pack for myself. My DB loves curry and hot/spicy dishes. Geez, now that I have the catalog and have been reading all the feedback, I can almost see my bank balance dwindling down and my spice shelf filling up. :p
