I was making an appetizer (Spinach puff type recipe) that instructed you to melt the butter in the baking dish for 3 minutes. I think the temp was 350.

When I took it out of oven, was hot, not smoking, no red flags to me.

I baked the recipe (eggs, cheese, spinach, some flour) in one of those pseudop cheapo non-stick square pans. It was a bit scratched but nothing major. Was that problem one? Now thinking Pyrex type would be better.

Anyway, when I was cutting and trying to remove the food from the pan, pretty good size pieces of the non-stick were sticking to the food. Some maybe the length of say a peanut M$M ... going with a food analogy.

Yum. So in the trash it went. It wasn't like I was chiseling the pan. A coincidence. I wouldn't think melting some butter for just 3 minutes would mess things up that much. Or, was it really just a sign that I shouldn't be eating that?

Thanks,

Or a sign that it is time to treat yourself to a new pan?? ;)

Can you tell I am always looking for an excuse to do some shopping!?!??!

Not saying I don't like veggies, but good thing it wasn't a pan of some awesome chocolate dessert.

So now I need a new 8 inch square. I wonder what most of you on the BB use? Non-stick or not non-stick.

I'm thinking of going without the not non-stick, just regular aluminum, especially since I often use a parchment sleeve. I don't like the design of some of the pans since it seems it has crevices that water can stay, but I'll just be more careful.

I like pyrex. I avoid baking in anything else unless I have to.

I feel your pain - while I was steaming vegetables last night, somehow my pan burned off all the water (I have no idea how; I filled it with a lot of water!) and managed to then continue to burn the entire inside of my favorite Calphalon nonstick saucepan. :( I had no idea anything was wrong until it was too late and now I must toss it.
