It's been one of those days.
First, I get a call this morning, the government has finally gotten wind that I'm making a bit more money and they are upping my student loan payment, a lot (I'm on an income contingent plan). More than I can afford and I'm not sure where I'm going to find that money. I'm canceling my cable and Netflix to start but that won't cover it. I'll be okay if my commission stays stable at a certain level but if it doesn't, well, I don't know.
Next up, I'm driving home, feeling okay since I was good and went and worked out and as I'm pulling into my parking lot of my apartment complex I smell something odd, look down and my car has overheated. Umm, it has 17,600 miles on it and I just had an oil change 1000 miles ago. WTF?!?!?  I've called Subaru Roadside Assistance and they'll be here in the morning and will take me and the car to the dealership where I'll have them shuttle me to work. I know it's under warranty but it still worries me since I'm hoping I'm not about to start on a long road of problems with my new car. Fortunately, I bought the extended warranty and am covered for 100,000 miles but arggghhhh.
I want a drink. And for the first time in years a smoke. :( :( Just needed to vent.
Oh Robyn. I'm sorry. Can you see if there is a middle ground on the student loan payments? Can't hurt to at least call them and see if they would work with you some. It seems a bit extreme to not be able to have at least basic cable TV -- I couldn't get a TV signal out here without it, so no news, weather, etc. I'm a bit too far removed from those issues to offer more than some general sympathy and a "can't hurt to ask."
Hope the car is just a new car tweak kind of thing -- no more problems allowed.
Life has not let up here either, but nothing could ever drive me to a smoke. Smokin' mad maybe, but out the ears, not the nose and mouth. :p
Hang in there, and let me know if you want to trade lives for a while. Maybe a change of perspective would make a difference...... :D
That IS a rotten day. :o {{{{{hugs}}}}} Hope tomorrow goes a lot better and that the fix for your car is a simple one.

Robyn,
Sorry that you had one of those days. Vent away.
Sorry that you are going to have to come up with more money for your student loans. Hope your commissions stay stable and even INCREASE!! From reading your posts, I can tell that you put your all into your job. Probably not what you want to hear right now, but there are a lot of websites and books that give some great tips when someone wants to come away with more money at the end of the month.
What a pain in the T^)$ about your car. Hope it gets fixed quick.
Good luck!

Robyn - sorry to hear about your stinky day! If it helps any, I'd give the student loan people a call. They are EXTREMELY flexible, and basically want to avoid defaults at all costs, and will pretty much do anything to keep you happily paying. I've had trouble paying a couple of times, and they've offered deferments, different payment plans, you name it.

Thanks for the commiseration guys. Unfortunately, I've already talked them down to about 1/2 of what they originally wanted to up the payment by so I think I'm stuck where I'm at. I should be clear, I'll keep a $15 a month cable to get basic channels and my internet which is more important to me (if I can't talk to y'all I don't know what I'll do!) so it will just have to work. And, yes, hopefully I just busted a hose in the car or something simple and covered under the warranty and we'll move on, it's just inconvenient and bad timing to say the least. And I won't smoke (I don't have a car to go anywhere to buy any ;) ) it's just one of those days where I think about the peace and quiet I used to find out on my balcony smoking a cigarette when I'd had a day like this. :o

((((((((hugs))))))))
i'm so sorry to hear about your sh!tty day. student loans are enough of a pain in the butt without them changing things on you  and car troubles just stink. i hope things look up for you soon!
You can still have the peace and quiet -- just do it with free hands and a clear (or clearing) mind.
If you must have something in your hands, make it a flower, a smooth rock or something tactile. Stare at the stars -- watch people's faces until they make you laugh-- you get the idea.

I'm so sorry you've had such an awful day.
I hope the car is nothing serious and is taken care of quickly!

Sounds like a heck of a day Robyn! Hope the car news isn't bad.
Instead of a smoke to relieve stress, have you thought about yoga? I used to think it was a lot of hooey, but I tried it once "just to stretch a little" and after two or three times "stretching" I was of a completely different opinion. Check out the yoga thread Chefzhat started.
And really, now, have a better day tomorrow, OK? :)

That sucks. I'm sorry you had a rough day. Hopefully the car will be an easy fix and when you get to work you'll find you've gotten a raise!!! ;) Hang in there!

Hah! I've tried, really I have but I've never found yoga relaxing, it just stresses me out because I can't get into a zone and worry about doing things right or the fact that I can't do a pose.
But, don't worry, I won't pick up a cigarette. It took far too long to quit almost 8 years ago I'm not about to go through that again. Besides, have you seen how expensive cigarettes are these days? I certainly can't afford to pick up new expensive habits! ;)
Don't think a raise is coming until March (which usually doesn't start paying until July although it's retroactive). Too bad but it's life. I'm working through budget options and I'm just going to be careful about those careless charges. I'll make it.

I'm sorry, Robyn, that's just a krappy day.
Sorry you couldn't do better with the loans; it's such a shame, because so many people don't live up to their obligations, it would be nice if they could work with you such that it's not a huge burden when you're clearly being responsible.
And I totally understand the difference between remembering the relief of the cigarette versus actually being tempted to smoke one. We've walked the same path!
BTW, your yoga comment cracked me up; I took a class in college with a nice teacher and a perfectly decent class, and every single thing about it stressed me out. Fortunately, I was still smoking at the time :D .

(((Robyn))) sometimes when it rains it pours, or in your case, when it snows it blizzards! Here's to hoping that the storm at least ends in some rockin' snow capped mountains so you can relax while you ski down them!
(After your car is fixed :o )

I am sorry that your day did not go better. And aren't you due for good karma after all the good you did the other day? Hopefully this is just a little hiccup and great things are headed your way. It sounds like you would prefer to ski off your frustrations which is a nice healthy option :D

Thanks again guys, I appreciate the encouragement which I knew I'd find here. I think I'm tired enough now to go to sleep and not lie in bed worrying. Good night. :)
Oh, and Puppylove, trust me, if my car isn't fixed by Friday I'll be demanding an all-wheel drive loaner to get up the hill. I bought a frickin' all-wheel drive for a reason. ;)

They say bad things come in threes. I think I'm done.
This weekend I checked my bank account and noticed that the Town of Vail parking was trying to put 9 extra $19 charges on my account. Called the bank they said they couldn't do anything until the charges actually went through. Checked this morning and 4 of the 9 charges went through. Great. I've called the bank, they are putting money in my account and opening a claim but it's so another worry, another issue to address. Ugh. Can I just hide? :( :( :(

You are really having a string of bad luck. But like you say, bad things come in 3's. My thoughts are with you and hope there is a turn around soon. Let us know about your car. ((( )))

You've got your share of hassles to deal with right now. Ugh is right. I'm so sorry. Hang in there. I know you know it will get better, but that still doesn't make this time any fun. ((((Robyn))))

Update on the car. The radiator cap wasn't holding pressure so they replaced it and flushed the system. So, one issue solved, the next will be solved in the next few days. The other won't get solved but I'll deal with it.
