So, I'll try and give the condensed version.
A couple weeks after the tree was put up, it toppled over one night around 12:30. The face of the porcelain tree topper was smashed. It was my room mates. We laughed and cried-it was just one of those things.

So we both post on a mostly local spin-off board from a sports board. We know a lot of people on there; it's a wonderful community that has reached out to many in need over the years. Also, a lot of us tailgate together for football games both home and away. I've had people I met on this board crash at my house on game weekends, buy a printer for my classroom, be my designated driver, answer to calls of car problems, etc.

So,, I posted a funny thread a while back with the doll's face. It was pretty funny if you have a twisted sense of humor.

Today, roomie got home and found a box addressed to "Becky and JJSooner" (her username is Becky on this board). The return address was "tree topper". The city was marked out.

What a way to end an otherwise crappy day! Some kind person took it upon themselves. Now yes--they found our address. I'm sure someone who is a good friend of ours passed it on to the kind person. I'm not worried about it.

Anyhow, here are some pictures of the old and the new. She's beautiful. We named her Celeste. :)

Thanks for posting Jennifer, this is the kind of story I needed to hear tonight. And, if by chance your fairy is reading, thank you for doing such a kind thing.

And I forgot to add--in a pay it forward fashion--we are already planning on sending a care package to a member of this board who is going to Iraq this month. We'll probably also send something to his wife and 2 children in Kansas. I know we'll be able to find their address through mutual friends or a tax payer search (we know their last name).

What a sweet thing to do! And how fun to do it anonymously! Now when you tell people about it, you will never know if they already know the whole story! :)

You know, this reminds me of our Brownie Fairy. It was so wonderful to come home and find such a wonderful little package. Whenever I listen to the CD that I received I think of my fairy and smile. Whoever you are, if you're reading, thanks again. And, I see the person I sent a package to and wonder if she does the same thing and I think of how fun it was to find things to send to her.

I had a Christmas Fairy from this board this year as well. Apparently, a little bird gave my address to a West-Coaster who felt I was in need of a little care package. What I received was a fantastic array of items locals to San Francisco that I've been slowly eating/using. Forget Disneyworld - the Cooking Light Bulletin Board is a Magical place!!! =)

Ohmygosh, Jennifer, I am just the kind of person you had in mind when you posted that picture! I'm sorry for your drama, but DANG - that is a great picture! :p

Celeste is so pretty (perfect name) and I'm sure that she'll have a very special, sentimental place for you and your roomie each year when the tree goes up. Sounds like a wonderful group you have.

Robyn, I also remember the Brownie Fairy swap(ish) fondly. It was so nice to read those postings!

Glad someone here thought so. You should see the pic where I put her back on the tree. Sad, but we HAD to have a tree topper. We are actually saving her for next year--not sure what her plan is yet. ;)

How cool!

And as resident organizer of the Brownie Fairy, I cringe when anyone mentions it. Sadly, there were a handful of people (approx 5 or so) who sent gifts but never got one for various reasons. :o :( Maybe I should resurrect the BF on a separate thread.

I'm sorry for those who did not receive anything. BF was a fun thing -- even better are the truly unexpected. Jennifer, I like that you are paying it forward. My dad taught me that concept long before the movie -- and I don't count to 3. It's a good thing. :)

I really hope you do resurrect this idea. I for one would love to participate (even though I didn't before) especially to make sure those who sent out gifts were reciprocated.

It is better to give then receive:D :D

And for being the one to organize it that is a job on its own. Never feel bad for doing good for others!!

Well, the roomie found out who sent it!
He lives in Tulsa and we've met him at a few ball games. He's a genuine nice guy, married, and dotes on his 3 kids. He got our address from our mutual good friend here in town.

He asked us to keep quiet...not let others on the board know, so we will honor his wishes.
