A few months ago/year ago I found a Web site that you can send in a tube of a discontinued lipstick and they can recreate the color. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the company now and I have a Clinique lipstick that I love and they, of course, discontinued the color. The company I'm thinking of would create three sticks of the color. Anyone familiar with this, or have other avenues to explore for finding discontinued colors?

You might also try ebay -- my favorite Chanel lipstick was discontinued but I found it on Ebay -- had never been used and was fairly cheap.

Sometimes a company will supposedly discontinue a color, only to re-name it. Mary Kay does that so I'm sure others do too. You might ask for the "new" color that is replacing it.

In my experience, sometimes they tell you a color has been discontinued only because at that particular store they ran out of it. There was a Dior lipstick that I loved, and when I went to buy a new one in that color, they told me it was discontinued. A couple of weeks later, I went to another store and I found it, so I bought 3 of them! When paying, I mentioned that I was getting that many because I would never be able to find it anymore, and they said it was NOT discontinued!

When Vincent Longo discontinued my favorite color I ran a google search and ended up finding it at www.beauty.com

Thanks for all the tips. www.threecustom.com WAS the Web site. I had no idea that manufacturers will "discontinue" a color only to rename it.

I have also had good luck finding discontinued colors, lines, and brands on ebay.

LOL...what a coincidence...I sent clinique cust. service an email this morning to ask about my favourite lipstick color...they gave me an alternative color, I will go see how close it is to my fav and if I don't like it I will check out the website...

Sometimes you can find the item by just searching on the color name, manufacturer and what it is, like "lipstick". I did this with a discontinued Clinique lipstick, and found a place, StrawberryNet, who carried it!:)

What's the shelf life of lipstick? The one I like was discontinued 5 or 6 years ago. I can still find it on ebay, but that means it's at least that old if not more.
