Jake is my 11 year old lab. he is having surgery next week to take a fatty tumor off of his eye lid that started off a slow growth, but then in matter of weeks, it really took off. They did a full blood panel for the surgery. He came up as hypothyroid, reading of .4, and suggested a low dose of thyroid med of .6

The vet was perplexed at this because he has lost 12 unexplained pounds over a year, slow heart rate, he actually has more energy and lately, he was tested ahwile back for hyper-thyroid, but came back negative. And now he getting a intolerance to heat, meaning, the house is only 68-70 degrees and he goes out at night in the 32 degree temp to sleep. The vet said all of these symptoms are just the opposite of hypo-throid.

So just looking at any thoughts on this.

The vet did say a test can come back hypo if there is something else going on, but all of his bloodwork came back great. I am hoping its not something like cancer of something that doesnt show up in blood test.

As a general statement, hypothyroidism is overdiagnosed. There are a variety of tests that can be used to diagnose, some better than others (also more $ usually) ask your vet what kind of tests were run and if he would recommend any others.

There has to be an answer. Sounds like the right tests aren't being run yet...

I asked the vet to run a comprehensive thyroid panel and that should hopefully give us more information on how to proceed, he gets that done tomorrow, but has to be sent out so that that will take a few days to get back.
