I just saw this tonight in the Williams and Sonoma catalog. I LOVE it. DD#1 helps me in the kitchen all the time and has indeed fallen off of the stool once. However I just cannot imagine paying this much for this right now--has anyone ever seen an "off brand" or even plastic kids' stool for the kitchen?

ETA I did find this one also, which is cheaper, but I still would not mind plastic and even cheaper, you know?:

I've never seen that stool in plastic, only wood...but here's one that's about $60 cheaper.

My DS (almost 3) likes to help quite ofen in the kitchen too. Most of the time, I will just haul a chair over and put the back of the chair to whatever side is the side he could fall from. For instance, he will have a counter on one side and me on the other, so the chair back will be behind him....

I also have a regular wooden step stool like this one from Target that we use in the kitchen sometimes.

Gertdog found a learning tower on Craigslist for pretty cheap. They are pretty popular, so I'd think the availability of a used one would be pretty good.

Hey good idea--I never think of that. When I get home tomorrow (I am my parents' tonight) I am going to do a search....
