A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with food allergies to...well, just about everything as far as I can tell! Among the things she is allergic to are beef, pork, chicken, turkey, shellfish, peanuts, soy, beans, and dairy. She has been wracking her brain to figure out where she's going to get her protein.

She's not a big fish eater, but says she's willing to try new things, since it seems to be one of the few things she can eat. Unfortunately, most of the fish recipes I find contain other foods she cannot have -- things like soy sauce, vinegar, cheese.

Does anyone know any interesting fish recipes that don't involve dairy, soy, fermented things like wine or vinegar, wheat, rice, nuts, tomatoes, or potatoes??? I TOLD YOU IT WAS A CHALLENGE! ;) Obviously, she can just broil the fish with some lemon juice or something, but no one can eat that *every* day for *every* meal!

Hi. Well it is a challenge. Wow First of all let me say and stress allergies should be diagnosed and taken VERY seriously. Now you mentioned beef, pork, chicken, poultry, shellfish, peanuts, soy, beans and dairy. Later you mentioned wheat and tomatoes?
Since meat and poultry is out that leaves you more or less a vegetarian diet. if she is NOT allergic to wheat she can certaintly enjoy pasta but if she is allergic there are many without wheat (quinoa, corn, potatoes). There are non dairy cheese alternatives in the health food store. Being allergic to peanuts and soy I would stay clear of Chinesse food since most is stir fried in peanut oil and uses soy sauce. She can have fish which she could do in stews, kebabs, grilled fried. I would suggest she goes for the spices to add seasoning to her food.
Now what about other meats like venison or bison? I am not sure of the vegetarian protein alternative ground "meat", she would have to read ingredients. I am allergic to wheat, beef, tomatoes, strawberries so I mostly eat chicken , turkey, a bit of pork and I get bread, waffles cookies etc at the health store gluten free.
My suggestion is at first read read and read ALL labels and everything she is going to eat go to Borders etc and get some allergy cookbook resources. Contact your allergy resources on line or where you live too.
Good luck.

How about the BBQ Roasted Salmon It is just spiced and roasted in the oven.

She could have that with roasted Corn on the Cob. You didn't mention corn.

Hopefully she can eat green veges too !

Poor thing...

We had a fabulous fish tonight. I took red snapper, dipped it in egg wash then rubbed pesto on it (could EASILY be made w/o cheese or pine nuts). To the pesto I had added lemon rind.

I then "fried" it in a non stick pan with a little lime juice. It was very moist and tender and full of flavor!
