New Find - Santa Claus Melon

The wonderful B&B we stayed at in North Carolina had a different slice of melon for breakfast each day. I thought I knew of them all, but one day we had the pleasure of enjoying Santa Claus melon. Oh. My. Goodness. I mourned the fact that this was probably some southern thing that I won't be able to get in Michigan.

While grocery shopping yesterday in our local produce store (note: I didn't say grocery store), I found them! Outrageously expensive (at $5.99 for one just slightly larger than a football) but oh, I'm so happy!

Just wanted to share that.

What other melons did you get to sample? Our favorite here is cranshaw. Maybe I should give santa claus another chance.

They served crenshaw, casaba, honeydew and the Santa Clause melon was served twice. I love finding new things like that on vacation.
