My DH loves to cook outside. This past week he has had a terrible cold and sinus congestion but as of today was beginning to improve considerably. Tonight he wanted to smoke some steaks on the BBQ. About an hour after cooking he started to "cough up a lung" for about 20 minutes. He became short of breath. He went to bed about an hour ago (8 pm) and is still coughing sporadically. I asked him if he thought he needed to go to an emergency clinic and he said "no". I think he was inhaling smoke from the BBQ and it irritated his lungs. He thinks I'm nuts, but he is always playing the martyr with his health.

Am I over reacting? If he is still coughing tomorrow should I insist he go to an Urgent Clinic or let it go. He is sooooo stubborn.

Thanks for your advice.

I'm no doc -- but hearing short of breath, and a man going to bed at 8:00 would make me concerned, and I wouldn't just ignore it. I would actually wake him up and see how he feels....

If you are concerned, insist that he goes to get it checked out. Don't let his stubborness win out.

Hope he is feeling better.

Thanks,Applecrisp, for your input. The going to bed early doesn't bother me as much as his coughing and shortness of breath. He usually gets up extremely early to work out although this was a little earlier than usual.

I just checked on him and he is breathing OK and his coughing seems to have stopped for now.

If the coughing persists (and the shortness of breath) I will insist he goes to a doctor.
