Okay everybody I am back from Switzerland (yes, we had an awesome time and yes, I gained 8 lbs even though we hiked 45 miles in 5 days) but the real questions are:

1) What in the world has happened to the board and who is going to tell all the little secrets I need to know.

2) Did Beth & Bart get married?

3) What have all of you been doing over the last two weeks?

4) Have you tried any good wines lately?

I tried many Swiss wines and they were wonderful. In fact I drank at least 1 bottle every day!!!!

Glad to be back and can't wait to hear from you all.

Yvonne

Hi, Yvonne,

Welcome back from what sounds like a stupendous vacation.

Though I can't give you the skinny on Beth and Bart, I will attempt to tell you what happened with the board. Dunno whether Maelynn mentioned to you that CL had been planning a change in servers for some time. Well, to make a long story not quite so long, once they moved to AOL, they discovered the old BB format wasn't compatible (unstable, they called it) with the server, so they upgraded us to this fancy, full-race model with all the bells and whistles. Who's going to tell you how to drive it? Hmmm... I think we're all kinda groping our way through.

Anyway, that's it in a nutshell...

Oh, and by the way, OF COURSE we've had new and wonderful wines. ALWAYS. (hic!)

Well, that's about all I wanted to ask. I'm most interested in hearing more about the Swiss wines you enjoyed. Oh, that and where you went in Switzerland, and, of course, what you ate! Switzerland is just about my idea of heaven on earth :)

No rush - whenever you get a chance to tell us more...

Thanks.
Natasha

I went to Switzerland last Oct and fell in love with it. We definitely want to hear more about where you went, fun stories, food, people, etc.

I didn't even know that the Swiss made so much wine until I went there. Wow! Yum! We even hiked through vineyards in one town. It was so beautiful and unusual the way that the vineyards grow on the steep hills. And, despite much looking, we have yet to find anyone in the states who distributes Swiss wine. I think the Swiss just don't care if their wine makes it over here. (Kvalley -- we drank lots of Pinot in Switzerland...even better than Oregon Pinot, which I know you may not belive :-)

I've been watching the Tour de France and the beautiful countryside and mountains are definitely making me want to plan an adventure over there!

Okay, okay....here's more. We spent time in Zurich, Bern (yes we saw the bear pits), Neuchatel, Murren, Meiringen, Reideralp, Luzern. We hiked all over in the Alps and the all the Alpine wildflowers were in bloom and everything was beautiful. You can only get the Murren by hiking or taking a Gondola up and the same with Reideralp. Both of them were up in the hills with cowbells ringing everywhere.

As far as the wine goes we drank mostly whites from Neuchatel or one called Fendant. The reds were almost always a pinot noir but they were usually lighter and less spicier than what we are used to. I loved them all. David loved the beer. He was on a hunt for a beer he didn't like and never found one.

Food: Not may favorite really. A lot of cheese. But everyday we made a picnic for our hike which usually included fresh fruits, bread, cheese and, of course, wine. We really enjoyed those. We tried Raclette, Rosti and Fondue as well. For food, nothing beats Italy in my book.

Anyway we had a wonderful time and now I have to drop the LBS.!

Hey Yvonne! I was wondering where you were! I knew you guys would have a fantastic time on your walking tour...but, how could anything match up to Tuscany? I am dying to visit there!! I am glad to hear that you drank at least a bottle of wine per day---I hope they were all up to your discriminating palette. I'm so jealous that you got to try Raclette--I've seen those little grills at Williams-Sonoma and have been so curious about what it tastes like.

For Kim and anyone else curious, I'm the Beth and my fiance is the Bart mentioned. Yvonne (and everyone else there, I guess) met us both at the CL weekend. I know it is confusing as there are about a million Beth's on the board.

Anyway, thanks so much for asking about us, Yvonne! We are leaving Friday and getting married this coming Sat. Then, we will be backpacking in the Idaho mountains until Friday the 27th. I'm sooo excited!!! :D I promise to post details about our adventures, I've actually already promised to post my backpacking recipes for Terri.

Hey, howd'ya know I'd be reading this post? ;)

So, knock me over the head. The city I lived in in France (Chambery) is about an hour from the Swiss border, but did I bother learning anything about Swiss wines? No, too busy chasing Italian boys and tequila frappes.

I believe you, I'm just jealous :p

Yvonne,

Soooooo good to hear from you! Your vacation sounds a dream! Thank you for sharing some of the details! And don't worry -- those 8 little pounds will come right off... but, oh those memories -- they will last forever!!!

The new BBs are a blast... but some of us (the technically challenged!) are still learning how to use them. You are WAY farther along than I was -- you've already got an avatar AND your own custom byline! I think you're doing GREAT!!! :) But if you scroll back through some of the older posts, you'll see lots of earlier questions addressed and answered. I'm still referring back there frequently myself!

So, have fun! And, again... WELCOME BACK!!!!

Lynn

Glad to hear about your wonderful trip and wine tasting experiences.
Remember the old Wine of the Week? We just got back from my DH's business trip to China, I couldn't find Los Vascos in PA but I did find it in a Turkey Hill convenience store in Hong Kong (and it was also featured in a Wine Bar )! Very good one, we are starting to get into Pinots, so I am on the search...
