Apparently, Yaz is one of those annoying little 3-letter words that won't work in the search function (please change this, CL!)...

I just started Yaz last month, and one of the promoted benefits is supposedly shorter, lighter periods. But I'm wondering if shorter and lighter can translate into hardly anything at all??? Makes me a tad nervous, if you know what I mean...has anyone else had this happen on Yaz?

thanks

DD (14 years old) takes Yaz--started for absolutely horrid PMS--and has taken it for about 2 years. Her periods (per her account) are much lighter but not as light as you are describing. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility but if there's a possibility of pregnancy, I'd definitely make sure before continuing on Yaz but wouldn't freak out! It especially seems possible since it's the first period since you started Yaz.

It has made my daughter's PMS soooo much better and we like the fact that she can skip a period whenever just by omitting the placebos (with the GYN's blessing, of course). As far as I'm concerned, it's everything the manufacturer promised it would be which is rare in my humble opinion!

Again, don't freak out but cover your bases and please report back!

Thanks for the reply and concern...nope, not pregnant, just getting used to the schedule, I guess. I was cramping mildly the last couple of days but that was it, no period. It eventually came, but prior to taking Yaz I could count on cramps to let me know what was going on, so this was a little different. I was on birth control pills for about 10 years until a few years ago, so I'm just getting back into the groove.

So far, I'm not seeing much of a difference between Yaz and other pills, except price. Yaz is not covered by my insurance company and would cost $60, so I'm switching to something else. I never had a problem with PMS, which Yaz is advertised to control.

Chiming in late (no pun intended). I stated taking Yaz a few months ago and really like it for helping (not curing) my PMS. My periods start a few days later than they did on my previous BCPs, and don't last as long, which is a nice side benefit.

But I bet they cover the "little blue pill". It just drives me crazy when I hear about insurance companies not covering certain bc pills (hello, they are used for conditions other than birth control  ) or, even worse, not covering any bc pills at all.

Ok, off my soapbox now. Must be PMS ;) :D

And sorry, I can't comment on Yaz as I have never taken it, but I am so wanting to try Seasonale or one of the equivalents.

I agree. I hate my insurance company. Or rather, I hate my employer's plan. Cigna has multiple health care centers located throughout the Phoenix metro area, and I can only go to one of their pharmacies if I want prescription coverage for drugs. To go to the CVS pharmacy 1 block from me, I have to pay out of pocket. The closest Cigna pharmacy to me is several miles away and only open M-F, and they open after I'm at work and close before I leave.   I have to send DH to get meds for me or else suck it up and pay full price.

No problem!

Absolutely ridiculous. Our insurance company didn't even question (I'm guessing because of DD's age--which was not smart on their part because many girls her age are sexually active although my daughter would rather spend her time with her horses than any boy on earth--but I do know I should never assume anything with complete certainty-- ). I hope another option works well for you.
