I just had to share a new use for cardamom. I really like this recipe for yeast banana bread and decided to add cardamom. I made it in my bread machine and it came out good - maybe a little too much cardamom (I didn't measure, just guessed, maybe someday I'll learn), DH and I loved it but it was a little strong for the kids.
Banana Nut Bread with Cardamom
1/2 cup water
2 medium ripe bananas
2 teaspoons butter
3 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
1/4 cups gluten
2 tablespoons brown sugar -- packed
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup dry milk
1/2 cup chopped toasted filberts
1/2 teaspoons cardamom (ground green cardamom, pods and all) 1/4 might be enough
2 teaspoons yeast
