Okay, DH and I grew up in the same state but about 200 miles apart. We both sang this song as kids but neither of us can remember the last line. I tried googling and discovered that this is a very widespread kids song but the most common last line is not the one that we sang in Indiana. All the google hits say it ends with "and me without a spoon". Anybody know a different last line? Like I said that's not the one we are looking for.

Great green gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts,
Petrified pelican puke,
Mutilated monkey meat.

Great green gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts,
_______ _______ ______ _____ _____ ?

Great Green Globs of Greasy Grimey Gopher Guts
Mutilated Monkey Meat
One Half Pint of All Purpose Porpoise Pus
Floating in Pink Lemonade
And Me Without A Spoon.....

That's how we sang it when I was growing up on Boston. I think there are regional variations because when I moved to Atlanta in 7th grade, it was sung a bit differently.

Thanks for the smile this morning!

Oops, just realized you wanted a different last line from "me without a spoon". Sorry - that's the only one I know.

Boy does that take me back... I am thinking camp in the mid 80s. Sorry to say that I know the same ending that you have found online, except to add this...

French-fried eyeballs swimming in a pool of blood
And me without a spoon...but I've got a straw :)

I feel so deprived. Somehow I missed out on this rich little diddy. It's a wonder I survived.

I do remember saying, "Ooey, gooey gopher guts!" Maybe that originated with this song, but I just never learned the rest?

We sang:

Great green gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts
Chopped up monkey feet

French fried eyeballs swimming in a bowl of blood - SLURP!
That's what I had for lunch.

I can't believe all the variations oin this simple song. WHen we were kids, it was

Great green gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts,
Mutilated monkey meat,
Little dirty birdy feet,
French-fried eyballs floating in the moneky blood
And I forgot my spoon....

But I've got a straw.

?

Who knew there were so many variants to this classic? :p

I learned it this way:

Great green gobs of greasy, grimy, gopher guts
Mutliated monkey meat
Little birdies' dirty feet
All wrapped up in all-purpose porpoise pus
And me without my spoon.

Good eat-ing friends!

Alternative to the line about the spoon was

And served with eyeball soup.

ewww, these songs are gross
Where have I been, living under a rock all these years? I have never heard of this. Is there some time period or is this regional?

Funny, so many variations.

I'm laughing so hard my kids are wondering what the fuss is about. I'm not about to share this song with them! :p

I've never heard this before, maybe we were left out of all the fun here in CA?

Beth
03-21-2008, 01:32 PM
No -- do not share it with your kids. They will undoubtably hear it on their own and sing it more times than you can stand despite your best efforts tot he contrary. I have 2 boys -- I'mcertain of it. ;) :D

I know this was sung when my older brother was young -- 40-50 years ago, and my boys both heard and sang it too. DH says he didn't. He grew up in CA, but I'm thinking he managed to forget it. I can't believe he had an older brother, was in scouts and still never heard it. Seems like he heard everything else out in CA. :p

And the title change is fine with me.

Instead of "me without a spoon" I know it as:

"All put together for a dollar ninty-eight

Oků.after not hearing anything about this song for years, this thread is second time I have heard about this song since last night. The first time it was on a Honda commercial (I think) on TV, something about going green. What does it all mean??

I remember my snotty little boy cousin singing this one:

I hate Bosco, enriched with DDT
My mommy put it in my milk and tried to poison me
But I fooled Mommy
I put it in her tea
And now I have no mommy
To try to poison me.

I remember hoping my mommy didn't hear him singing that one.;)

When I shared this song with my 11 year old grandson, I made the Oma of the Year award! But I had to make him promise not to tell Mom where he got it...however, DS, his Dad, figured it out immediately!:D:D

Oh, I remember it, and I lived in both Northern and Southern California as a child. Everybody knew this song and sang it frequently. Maybe it skipped a generation. Or died out. Actually, the only line I still remember is "Great big gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts," and I think it ended with "and I forgot my spoon." I don't remember the middle lines at all, but they were in the same spirit as the others mentioned in the thread.

Oh, we used to sing this one too. Hey, and we weren't snotty;). Or matricidal. For those who never heard it, it's based on a singing commercial for Bosco (a chocolate syrupy stuff) that went "I love Bosco, Bosco's good for me, Mommy puts it my milk..." something something etc I don't remember the rest. The I hate Bosco version stills runs through my mind sometimes. A very earwormy little ditty.

That and the Peanut Butter Jelly song.

Okay, I clearly learned it differently, or misheard the words as a child. :o

The version I know goes:

Big green globs of greasy slimy gopher guts
Pickleated monkey's feet
Incubated birdies' beaks
Big green globs of greasy slimy gopher guts
And I forgot my spoon
(Ate it anyway)

And yes, I do know NOW that "pickleated" is not a word.

This was the version we sang:

Great, green, globs of greasy grimy gopher's guts
Mutilated monkey meat
Chopped up little birdies' feet
Mix it all up with Grandpa's big old dirty feet

Golly, I forgot my spoon!
