I posted last week that I finally bought a waffel maker. I used it last night and didn't like it. It's a Krups so I thought it would be good. What brand do you have? Is it easy to clean up? Please help!!

Mindy,
I have a VillaWare...it makes a five-heart-shaped waffle...non-stick coating and easy clean-up...I love it! Purchased it from Cooking.com

I read an article in either Cooks Illustrated or Cuisine (I don't remember which one), and they tested several waffle irons. They recommended the VillaWare one, which I bought, and I love. Had it not been for that article, though, I don't know which one I would have bought, and I generally like Krups brand appliances too, and have no reason to think it wouldn't be good otherwise. We have a Belgian Waffle Iron though, not a regular waffle iron, and I make waffles for my husband 2 or 3 times a week for breakfast - they are his favorite. It made me laugh on the poll they are running on the CL main page, about which appliance you own that collects the most dust, and the waffle iron is winning hands down. In my kitchen, it's one of the appliances that gets the biggest workout!

But to answer your question, the VillaWare won in the testing done by the magazine, and I can vouch for the fact that it works as well as they say it does.

I have owned a Villaware Belgian Wafflemaker for several years and it's wonderful. It is very powerful and takes considerably less time to cook up the waffles than other brands and the results are always consistent!

I don't like waffles myself, but I've made them many times for other people. I have had terrible experiences with waffle irons; all would stick like glue or else taste terrible from all the greasing and oiling. I got a Krups Belgian Waffle iron about 3 years ago and have not had one sticking problem yet, even with the very lowfat recipes. I always dab a little shortening on to coat (which works better and leaves less of a taste than oil, spray or butter in my opinion). I don't have to coat it but I do so as a precautionary measure. I still see the same iron in stores. It is silver and makes two squares about 4 by 5 inches.

I've never found anyone who wasn't crazy about waffles. I don't know if it's from bad recipes or what, but I just never did care for them.

I thought the same thing. I don't use mine as much as you do yours, but it is still the one of those I use most. Mine is a Nordic Ware stove top Belgian waffle iron. I like it and have only thought about an electric one when I have wondered if they might be any faster.

Mine is a "Belgin waffle maker by Toastmaster". I have had it for several years and works like a charm.

I have found that most problems occur w/waffle makers because people become inpatient and try to open the iron to soon, hence the sticking and splitting of waffles, just my opinion.

Harryet,
I agree...the waffel maker I have (VillaWare) has a little red light that goes out when it's ready...works like a charm and fool proof!
In response to the CL poll...my waffel maker is NOT the appliance catching dust ;-} And as a side-line...the mix (yes...I use a boxed mix :D )...it comes from Natural Ovens...full of fiber...and it's delicious...add water...egg beaters...and it's good to go!

Thanks for all of your replys. Where do you purchase the Villa Ware? I bought my Krups at Bed Bath and Beyond and they didn't have too many choices.

We were given a Toastmaster Family Waffle Baker (makes regular size waffles) and LOVE it! It has a light that tells you when the waffles are done. I've had no problems with sticking and cleanup is a breeze. I think this brand is sold at BB&B and is reasonably priced. I don't know if this was one tested by Cook's Illustrated.
