This is VERY good! I had to bake mine for about an hour (seems a few CL recipes Ive made always take longer to bake, hmmm) anyways, i LOVE the cake part of the recipe, and I was even thinking of trying other fruits next time! A repeater for me!!
(a helpful hint to peel peaches, is to blanch them in boiling water for about 30 seconds, then put them in ice water, then the skins will peel right off!...of course you all already knew how to peel them right! lol)

Thanks Rachelle......I had my eye on that recipe too. There doesn't seem too many in this issue that strikes me! Although the one-bowl cakes look good.

Made this today and I thought it was very yummy! My sister was visiting and she tried it too. We didn't have the caramel sauce or frozen yogurt, but thought it was good anyway. The extra "moisture" from those would have been nice though as my sister thought it needing a "little something more". I liked it as is. The cake doesn't have a real strong flavor--kind of like a soft shortcake taste & texture. But the peaches make the cake! Definitely something different to use with peaches besides the normal crisps, cobblers or pies.

I have made this cake twice and it has been great both times despite my mistakes. The first time, I forgot to add the egg and the second time, I forgot to lower the oven temperature after cooking dinner so I baked it at 450 degrees for the first 15 or 20 minutes. Despite these mistakes, this is still a great cake. I guess I will have to make it one more time to see how it is when I actually follow the recipe correctly.

I made this last week before leaving for vacation, so I didn't have time to post. This was a HUGE hit.
But first, the rest of the story. When my dh and I met about 5 years ago, he told me he despised peaches. Oh, how sad for me, since they are my all-time favorite summer fruit! Needless to say, I did not attempt any peach dishes. Until last week. I was down at the Farmer's market, and they had the most amazingly beautiful peaches. So I bought several pounds. I figured between the boys and I, we could have some fun with the peach cake, while dh ate his frozen yogurt. While I was slicing and preparing the cake (very easy to make, I might add), DH is talking to me, and admits that he NEVER EVEN TASTED A PEACH IN HIS ENTIRE LIFE! It seems the hatred of peaches came from working in a peach orchard packing them into boxes while he was a young lad, peach fuzz everywhere!!!!! I insisted he immediately put a slice of fresh peach into his mouth then and there. I watched as he delicately sniffed the slice of peach, wrinkled his nose, and I said "Just do it". He popped it into his mouth......his eyes flew open, he rolled them around, his body went into gyrations as he experienced his first peach. He came after me for the rest of the peaches, but, armed with my paring knife, I gallantly fought him off. I managed to get the peaches into the cake, into the oven.... just in the knick of time.
He ate two pieces of the peach cake, moaning and uttering in ecstasy the whole time. With the caramel sauce and the ice cream (lowfat).
I got one piece before the boys crashed the peach party and polished off the whole rest of the peach cake. Everyone totally loved this cake. Raves....
It holds a very special place in my heart.
:D
I'm making it again today.
-All we are saying, is give peach a chance.

BROWNEYE: I loved your story:cool: I have been making peach deep dish pie all month. My sons have a peach tree, the oldfashined kind with the fuzzy skin, and they are sooo easy to peel. I just slice the peaches into a casserole, add a little sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice and some cornstarch (so it won't run over).
Dot with a little butter, and place a pie crust over the top. Bake at 450° for about 1/2 hour. Little work, for a great dessert.

Paula- I loved your story! What terrific visuals I was getting from the Great Peach Defense in the kitchen. So glad DH discovered the joys of peaches.
I've got this cake in the oven now- our farmer's market was very good to us, too!
Enjoy the beautiful weekend in Seattle- it's hot as blazes here! DH and I are running a 5K tomorrow, fortunately in North Bend, so it should be much cooler!

Wow, Curleytop, that sounds wonderful and sooo easy. I think I'll have to pick up lots of extra peaches today at the Farmer's Market....
Perfect idea...

What a hoot, browneye! I totally got a mental picture of all that!
I agree that this cake is fabulous...and easy! Definately a repeater!

This morning I entered this cake into a peach dessert contest at our farmer's market. I took third place! I'm so excited- I've never entered anything before and this was completely on a whim - I saw the notice in last night's paper. I was nervous because I hadn't yet made nor tried the upside-down cake and just entered it with fingers crossed- hoping that it was done in the middle (took only 35 minutes of baking)
So, the first place winner was an awesome peach pie- totally deserving, but second place was this gross creamy torte. No sour grapes or anything- I can't believe I even made it in-but I didn't like the torte thing. The frosting was cool whip with cinnamon. I couldn't even tell where the peaches were!
Now, for the real surprise- I didn't much care for the cake. I think I put in too much lemon. And the peaches did not carmelize. I used brown sugar instead of white, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I'm not much of an upside-down cake fan anyway (although the Maple-Pear Upside Down Cake from February or March is EXCELLENT) nor do I care much for white cake. I'm a pie and cobbler person, but too insecure about my pie crusts to have considered entering a pie.
I probably wouldn't make this again- too many other delicious desserts to try- but I'm so tickled that I won!

Congrats, Julie! That's too funny.....just goes to show you how everyone has a different idea of what's good! I wish they had contests like that at our little farmer's market. It sounds like fun!

Great job, Julie! I'm sorry you didn't like it. I used white sugar, but I think the general concensus is that the peaches DON'T carmelize whether you use white or regular. What post did I read that on? I'm sure you read the same thing or you wouldn't have used brown sugar. :)
How cool that you entered it into the contest without trying it first! Go girl! :p
Congrats again!
