Skin color and disease

I've been noticing that my ex husband has had a radical change in the color of the skin on his face. It looks purple/reddish to me. He doesn't visit tanning parlors or work outside but he does smoke and drink a lot. What might this be a sign of, high blood pressure? Anyone got ideas?

Well...not really so sweet. He's been awful. He walked out on me and the kids to take up with his young girlfriend and has never admitted he's done anything wrong. I'm thinking that bad living may be catching up with him although I'm not wishing for it.
