Hello all.

I'm on my fourth week of meds for Lyme and just started taking my second prescription. Doc prescribed Omnicef because the Doxycycline is so photosensitive, I was sunburned after just ten minutes outside.
I was wondering if anyone is familiar with either of these meds and if so, if any side effects were noticed?
I think I might have to go back to the Doxy because I think my reaction suggests that I'm allergic to the Omnicef (I'll spare you the details). The Doxy caused nausea and dizziness, so I suppose it's a crap shoot between the two (no pun intended).

I'm just curious to know if anyone has had the same reaction to either of these? I am currently awaiting a return phone call from my MD.

At this point, I almost wish I never went to the MD, as I feel worse than I did before I knew what it was. It's amazing that one little bugger can cause so much trouble.

I am familiar with Doxy for another treatment (acne) but can give you some info on the side effects I had. Initially I was VERY photosensitive but after awhile that calmed down (I was on it for over a year and just tapered off about 3 months ago). It did upset my stomach a lot and on a couple of occasions cause me to throw up so I learned to take it right before bed because then I'd go to sleep and not notice. Also, make sure you take it with a full glass of water as one time I didn't it got stuck at the entrance to my stomach from my esophogus and cause an ulcer there which was so painful I barely ate for a week until I went to the doctor and he prescribed Nexium for me. Lesson learned.

I had the worst sunburn of my life last summer when I was on Doxycycline. Neither my doctor nor my pharmacist mentioned that it was especially bad for photosensitivity, and there was no label on the bottle about it either:(

I'm sure I have taken Omnicef, but I don't remember anything about it. I guess that means it didn't bother me. I think it is related to penicillin.

I hope you feel better soon!

I'm pretty sure Omnicef is the devil. Every time my son was on it as a baby he got *severe* diarrhea, and my friend's daughter also got C Dif from it when she was a baby...
