Well, today I dreamed about the salmon defrosting in the fridge (I bought it one day last week but was invited to eat with friends so it went in the freezer), today at the store I bought boneless chicken breasts and then my Aug CL arrived so I'm trying to adapt a recipe in there, I spent 3 hours on Epicurious and logged a few posts here...
So I chose the basically every waking moment option!

...you mean there are other things besides food?

I was just saying I need to get another job-- being a Catering Director I truly don't think about anything else. It's a little out of control.
How many of you are thinking about dinner while you are eating breakfast! I bet quite a few. :)

I probably spend 4-6 hours a day thinking about food. There are those poor souls who eat to live and then there are those who-----. Vicky

When you say 'involve food' I think we need to be more specific! I mean, there's recipe planning, BB surfing, grocery shopping, cookbook reading, cook marinating (wine is definitely a food...), and let's not forget actually cooking and eating!! There is very little time left in the day after I've finished the above tasks.
And even after I've finished, I'm snuggling with DH, who just happens to be the tastiest thing I've had all day! :p

Considering when it's slow at work I can spend almost my entire day on this board, I chose 4-8 hours. I do think about a few other things (more out of necessity than choice ;) ) so I felt every waking moment would be an exaggeration. Although distinctly possible some days. :p

Not only do I think about food every waking moment, sometimes I dream about it too

Way more than I care to think about. Denial is more than a river!

I put my dot in the 4-8 column, becuase I'd like to think that I actually work once in a great while. And I don't think about food when I sleep. Other than that... So my realy answer is probably about 12, which I figure is closer to 8 than 24 (can you tell I'm justifying).

Probably closer to 1-2 hours than 4 hours, for me!
Great question, Kima!

In the summer it is definitely more because the kids are constantly looking for something to eat (and not always healthy things). Some days I refuse to be a short-order cook!! I would think that with this BB and the actual cooking, it would be between 4 and 8 hours. Plus, I enjoy foodtv as well.

Does breastfeeding count?

Bluemoose - that was one of those responses that should have had a warning label: Don't take a drink of diet coke before reading! There is now Diet Coke lodged somewhere between my throat and nose.

Well- seeing as my job involves at least 4 hours/day at the bakery, I would have to say that I probably spend at least 8 hours/day doing something (preparing, eating, planning) that involves food. It's funny though, my time at the bakery is so second nature that it doesn't affect the way that I feel about preparing and eating food at home. I try to keep them separate.

I'm relieved and glad to see that I'm in such good company! My daughter once accused me of liking my cookbooks better than her!

unfortunately, food is an all day event. which is why i keep finding myself at weight watchers! i wish food or my body image wasn't always in the back of my mind. BTW i'm not grossly obese as it might sound, only slightly about 50#.
i find myself not being able to enjoy a meal if it isn't considered "light". anyone else out there in BB-land w/ this afliction (sp).

I make sandwiches for lunch every day - one for hubby and myself. that takes at least 15 min. Then I do the fruit thing - wash his, cut mine in pieces. Then I have to pack it all. At least 30 min. in the morning for that. THEN there's dinner. Usually about an hour in the kitchen total. I don't do dishes so that helps.
Oh, if I've made bread the night before and it's been cooling in the AM, then I have to cut it and bag it. So add another 5 min. at least for that.
Oh, and if you add perusing bread books for new bread, recipes for future dinner, oh, gee.

Well, including the "food dreams" I sometimes have, you'd have to put me in the 20 - 24 hour slot.
Between feeding the family, planning new recipes, doing projects, canning, prepping for any competitions, planning for Holidays, birthdays etc, at LEAST every waking moment in my life has SOMETHING to do with food. :D

ALL DAY LONG. I don't know if this is good or bad. I certainly wish I could earn money with this hobby of mine. Instead, I spend extra money on ingredients.
