I didn't realize that Great Harvest was a chain! I thought the one here in Chapel Hill was one-of-a-kind. Anyway, I wish I had the recipe for you but I don't.

Wow! I just went to www.greatharvest.com and see that it really is a chain. It has such a home-town feel to it that it seemed like a sole proprietorship. I've met the owners, but now I realize that they own a franchise, not their own creation. Well, you learn something everyday.

I LOVE their bread and their Toe Curling Blondies! Glad to know that when we move, we just may have a Great Harvest nearby again.

I never knew it was a chain, either until about a year ago.

Blue Moose - I found their recipe for brownies on kitchenlink.com in their copycat section. Sorry I couldn't find the cookies!

Great Harvest Brownies

Submitted by Tammy Gritz of the Great Harvest Bread Company

Ingredients:
3/4 pound butter, melted
13/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup Dutch cocoa
5 eggs (WOW!!)
2 cups brown sugar
21/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
pinch salt
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup nuts (pecans or walnuts), chopped

Directions:
Melt butter in a saucepan. Add chips and stir until melted. Add melted mixture to cocoa in a bowl and combine. Set aside. In a separate bowl, whip eggs with brown sugar. Mix flour with baking powder and salt. Add this dry mixture to egg/ brown sugar mixture. Mix in the butter/chips/cocoa combination. Stir in additional chocolate chips and nuts. (Some nuts and chocolate chips may be saved to sprinkle on top of the brownies before baking.) Spread batter into a greased 9- by 13-inch pan and bake for 25 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven. Cool before slicing.

Isn't Great Harvest the greatest??

I shouldn't say this on a cooking light board, but their blackberry cream cheese scones are absolutely the best scones I've ever had. Yum!!

Oh my gosh, I LOVE those cookies!!! We used to live two blocks from a Great Harvest...how I miss that! When I was pregnant, I had to have their honey whole wheat bread and chocolate cookies all the time! I hadn't thought to check their web site for any local stores where I am now-thanks! I am drooling thinking about those cookies now!

I just checked their map and discovered that there's a store in Jackson, MS. I don't live there any more, but head up there once in a while for a haircut and a bit of shopping, get togethers, etc.

Hooray!!

I just adore that bread they make with the enormous sunflower seeds all over it! Yum!!
I could live on the stuff. :D

When I used to work in Portland, I walked by Great Harvest every morning and picked up a muffin. They have the BEST muffins anywhere! My all-time fav was blueberry-lemon-poppyseed. Yummmmmm!
