Just had an extremely unusual wine last night that I had to share my review for. Toad Hollow is the producer and the wine is a Dry Pinot Noir Rose I had never heard of this type of wine and thought it would be worth a try. It is really good!! Perfect for summer! I found it at a wine discount store for $9. It's from California, but from the looks of the website, probably readily available throughout the country. If anyone else has had it, or tries it in the future, please post. I'd like to hear what others think about it!

Missi,
Thanks for the review...will look to give it a try if Ican find it in one of our PA State Stores...ugh! We'll be going to NJ on vacation soon so maybe I'll get lucky...I'm still trying to branch away from my beloved chardonnays...but have not found many others that fit the bill...

I have heard that there are some good roses out there - I've seen a lot of articles in magazines lately, mostly because of the warm weather. I've been wanting to try one....thanks for the rec!

Missi,
Thank you for the recommendation! I will be on the lookout for this- I just love the name Toad Hollow! Rose would be perfect for those grilled pizzas in the August issue. What would be even more perfect is if I had my August issue. :(
Anyway! A chilled rose is all about hot summer nights, picnics by the lake, watching the moon rise...

SANDY,
I almost ended that thought with...and olives, cheese, bread but then I remembered that I didn't eat bread:p
Hey, does anyone know how to make the accents ` or ' over a letter(as in rose')? I have seen it on the board, so someone had success, but I cannot remember who or where I saw it....

Julie - It is alt + 0233 (using the number pad to the right) for the é. However, each thing you want to do involves a different number combo - maybe someone can post the whole list, I don't have it in front of me at the moment.

Hi Julie,
I just found it in the character map. Looks like the default font in here is Arial, so alt+232 = è (rosè). Or is it alt+233 (rosé)???

Character Map is what you would look for. Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Character Map. Just click once to highlight the character and in the bottom right corner it will give you the keystroke to use. :)

Vous êtes formidables, mes chères amies! Enfin, je peux écrire d'une manière exacte en français. Que ferais-je sans vous? Alors, il faut que je cherche ce bon verre de rosé....à très bientôt!
translation: Cool! Thanks!:D

I couldn't find the Toad Hollow, nor a Pinot Noir rosé. Are there any other U.S.-made rosé suggestions? I get nervous, because rosés always seemed to be stashed next to the schlocky pseudo-wines and wine coolers- I'd rather have some recommendations from those in the know!

Julie,
Go to the Epicurious website and click on the "Drink" tab. The front page has a really great article about Roses (don't know how to do the accent thingy) and the difference between roses and blushes. I've also stayed away from roses because they're always placed next to the jug wines (that whole "guilt by association" thing), but after reading this article I went out and bought one to try. I haven't opened it yet, but it's by Guigal and it was around $10 -- I'll give you my review once we open it. You can also check out the WineSpectator.com website. Go to the Wine Search and choose the Rose/Blush choice for type of wine. It will bring up a whole bunch of reviews in any price range and rating you choose.
In a related subject, I also just bought my first bottle of Sherry. (I was feeling very adventurous this month and the local wine store had a 20% off sale.) It's a Manzanilla type and Karen talks about this type in the August CL wine column. Again, haven't opened it yet, but I'll let you all know when I do.

Julie - I have heard that Iron Horse Winery is Sonoma has a good rose. Check out the August issue of Food&Wine maazine - they have an article on roses and some suggestions.
Ech, I'm trying to get the accent to work and it won't!

Sorry you couldn't find the Toad Hollow! Here's another suggestion that is hopefully you can find:
Sokol Blosser, Vin Gris of Pinot Noir, made in Willamette Valley, Oregon.
Keep searching for good Roses. (can't get the accent thingie to work either!) I think they make the best summer wines and are one of the least appreciated!

THanks for the suggestions! And pmmahan <<<DOH>>> I have the August F & W and read the article! Hellooooo?? :) A bit distracted these days. I've just reread it- I'm going to look for the Iron Horse rosé as well. If I can't find a "true" one from southern France!
Missi- I am sure to find the Sokol Blossor rosé- we get lots o'Oregon wines here.
Tracey- let us know what you think of the Guigal and the sherry!
