I haven't done one of these threads for awhile but in honor of Mother's Day I thought I'd do one today. Don't forget to do your breast self exam. You can save your own life. Then pick up phone and call your moms, daughter, aunts, nieces and friends. If you need more info on how to do your self exam please check the link in my signature.
And, while your at it head on over to www.thebreastcancersite.com and click to save someone else's life.

Even though I never forget -- thanks for the reminder. But also don't forget to schedule your mammagram ladies. Please don't be afraid either! Early detection is the key.

I'm one of the women that forget to schedule every year... :o And I need to schedule one now.
My embarrassment is the fact that self-exams do me very little good. I'm very large busted, but it's not hereditary, it's fat. I gained 140 lbs in two years back in my 20's, and even though I lost 100 lbs I kept the 44DD chest. All I can feel is lumpy fat deposits when I try to self-exam in the shower. A Mammographer once told me that fat might feel like lumps and lumps might feel like fat, so it's hard for me to actually feel anything myself.
I guess that's even more reason to be diligent about mammograms. Duly noted, I'll get busy scheduling. Thanks for the reminder Robyn!

Have done it all! The colonoscopy is the one I hate (because of that crap that you have to drink)...but had a good test result!
My mother is a breast cancer survivor of 27 years:D...her mother died as a result of breast cancer:(

OK, don't laugh (or be offended) but I had an OB/GYN friend that told me once the best person to do your breast exam was your SO. He told me that your SO has much more experience feeling your ...ahem, tissues and would most likely notice changes quickly. Of course that is no excuse for not doing your own, too.

They have pills you take for the prep now that do make that part easier!

The idea behind BSE is to get to know your breasts....if you find anything new or thick or unexpected, it will raise your eyebrows. The only way to get to know the lumps and bumps you already have (and have obviously been determined to be normal) is to keep doing the BSE :)
Wow Joyce, I didn't know your mom is a BC survivor!! If your grandmother and mother both had cancer, you should be ULTRA mindful. I was the first in my family :(:( .

I am and my Doctor is, as well. It was he who reminded me, at my last check-up, that I am at the age that my mother discovered she had breast cancer. I only saw my dad cry three times in his life...at his mom and dad's funeral and the day the doctor came in and told my mom that she had breast cancer.
My husband's sister was the first to have breast cancer in at least two generations....she was not proactive in her own care, at all. Not like you (and others on this board) who have discussed it. I think the best advice for anyone would be to be proactive. Research and know what is going on.
