I'm so thrilled, this project is almost done. I'm still waiting to get the towel bars and mirrors hung, and the shower door is to be installed on Tuesday.

Here's a link to the slideshow:

I'm very happy with how everything turned out. I've never remodeled a bath before, it's much harder than doing the rest of the house! Zillions of decisions and lots of things that need to take place in such a confined space.

Enjoy!

How beautiful! It is really stunning!:D

How do you take care of that unglazed tile?

Kay, it's been sealed. It should be easy to take care of, I hope!!!

Uncle Bobby will second the mini-fridge! :)

Absolutely sensational, Deb.

I'm going through the planning stages on mine now, finally, and you've inspired me to stop backing off from the whole thing.

Pay attention to all the teensy details - there are lots of them! The one thing about this new bath that frustrates me is that I wanted cabinets that resembled furniture. And I got it, but they were KITCHEN cabinets, the remodel contractor failed to mention that. So my cabinets are kitchen cabinet height, rather than bath height. I have to stand on tippy toes to see into the mirror to apply my mascara!

Oh, yeah - heated floor is the way to go. Really. It's worth any price. Mine can be programmed so that the floor is warm when I step in there in the morning. Mmmmmm, toasty toes.

DH said "where's the TV?". :p Now that it's all done, I wish I had installed one. Can you imagine lying in the bath watching your favorite TV show? Havin' a brewski from the fridge?? ;):D

This made me smile, because in a shore property we are renovating, we specifically asked for kitchen cabinet height cabinets! The old ancient cabinets were really low. It hurt my back to bend over to wash my face. The cabinet guy told me that most bath cabinets now are about 33" high, and kitchen are 36". I think the old ones were about 25-28", so we probably would have been fine with the regular 33" bath height, but I LOVE the 36". (I do find myself using DH's mounted shaving mirror to apply makeup though!)

Good luck with the new bath. I love the heated floor tile, wish I had that on winter mornings. I love your master shower too - hey, I'd just leave the door off, it's big enough to be a walk-in and that's one less surface to clean, right! :D

Wow, it looks incredible! I remember when you posted the original link before demo started, and it seems like it was finished fast too (of course, I haven't been living with it!). Great job with the design and the colors!

Just to show you what my view often includes, this was taken from a comfy seat in the new bathtub. I give you Mr. Tom Turkey, fluffing for the affections of another.

It's spring here, and the thoughts of every animal - man or beast - turns to love. In this instance, Mr. Turkey is preening for the lovely reflection he sees in our lower level windows. Ah, love. :) Self involved though it may be.

Gorgeous!!

I confess I am secretly hoping we find an existing home because I am clueless when it comes to picking things out...the thought of building is freaking me out :o

Was this the project combining two smaller bathrooms?

We have a tiny little half bath that I'd like to do either next year or the year after, depending on a few other things we need to do. It's so small that I figure it will need all of like 6 tiles for the floor! :D But since it's small, we should be able to fix it up pretty nicely for not a whole lot of moola. I'm just SO sick of the oak and the bare bulb light fixtures in this house. Oh yeah, and who could forget the hunter green sink?

I don't know if we'll ever get around to doing the upstairs bathrooms but just even having the 1/2 bath downstairs done will be very nice.w

Do you walk through the closet area to access the bath room or is it in the back of the bathroom? It is very nice. I am looking at those 'furniture' looking vanities from COSTCO.

Very nice! My favorite picture was the second one, I think, the view through the closet to the bathroom, with the fluffy robes hanging up. Enjoy your new space.

Gorgeous!! Love, love, love the shower tiles....exactly what I wanted, and we ended up going with composite instead because that's what hubby wanted. :o

Low rider commode reminds me of Home Improvement's Tim Taylor's version of the Man Bathroom, complete with La-Z-Bowl. :D

Wow! Absolutley stunning. The moroccan tile giving the floor a punch of color and the layout of the floor tiles -- way way cool (I want to steal that!). Are you available to come to Southern California and be my personal home consultant?

Debie,

I love your bathroom!

I like a LOT of the stuff I see but the thing that I like the most is the freestanding bathtub that is placed away from the wall. That gives it a spacious, uncrowded, luxurious look. I am planning to do the same with my bed.

Super job! Can I hire you?. I will be over this weekend for a nice long stay in that gorgeous tub..no need for you to make up the guest room for me:) Seriously, I want to know all about the floor and how you decided upon the tiles? I need to show that photo to my tile man in the future. Super floor! RELAX & ENJOY!!!!!

Thanks everyone! We are really enjoying it! DH took his first shower in there this morning, and Rob had the inaugural bath in the tub last night. He even made me light a candle! So he soaked and read a Get Fuzzy comic book.:)

The tile. I chose a rather rustic type of stone tile, 16x8 and had it laid in a basketweave pattern, leaving space for the 4x4 accent tile drop in. The accent tile were special order, and were kind of pricey, but I didn't need a ton of them. I chose the flooring first, then designed the rest of the bath around that. For the shower I used porcelain tile (more able to withstand constant wetness/wear and tear), 14x14 on the bottom, then 3 rows of 2x2 with glass tile accents. On top of that are 6x6 matching tiles laid on the diagonal. It is a very neutral pattern, but the change in direction gives great interest to the shower. Since it is all glass walls the shower area looks HUGE, and I didn't want anything drawing attention away from the floor.

hollysmom: yes we walk through the closet to get to the bathroom. Not the idea situation, but we were kind of limited for space.

joybuzz and Armel: I'm for hire. :p You only need to pay for the plane fare!

My master bath is A LOT like your original, particularly the corner oval tub set into a corner window. I've been thinking for a while about renovating and getting rid of it and putting in a freestanding tub. Yours looks great!!!

But do you miss having a jetted tub? I'd love the depth and shape of yours, but I worry about missing my jets.

Just a thought.

Chefzhat
05-23-2008, 12:21 PM
Well, not really. But I never used the jets anyway. Every time I turned them on little black floating things were in the water. A bit of googling told me that they were mold and ick . . .:eek::eek: No more whirlpool baths for me. :)

Actually, I rarely take a bath anyway. I'm a shower girl.

That corner with your tub has to be one of the most gorgeous bath views I've seen. Love it, and love the fact that the tub is unique; not the typical corner tub with plant/candle shelf (which I have in my bathroom, by the way; my African violets love it! :D).

And the turkey is funny!

Jewel, I never saw the La-Z-Bowl sketch, but you cracked me up. I just may have to see if it's on YouTube. :p
