We got a wii fit a week ago, and I was just wondering if anyone else who has one wants to have a thread about the progress?

I worked out for 30 minutes of wii exercise time, and reduced my wii fit age to -11 years! I have worked out about 20 minutes each time, 3 times before today, and it seems to be balance that needs the most immediate work! It keeps saying I'm unbalanced!:p Huh -- lots of folks already knew that about me!;)

Anyway, today I did step aerobics twice, the short run (3 minutes) and the rest was balance exercises. I got to board 8 in the tilt board!

Anyone else doing the wii fit workouts?:)

Good for you! Any amount of time using the Wii Fit is time not spent sitting around. ;)

We saw it demontrated last weekend and it looked like it gave pretty good workouts. Balance is a great thing to work on because it's less likely that we will take a fall with good balance. It's also good for the core muscles. I'm putting it on my wish list. :D

We just heard about this the other day...and are now talking about getting a Wii, just for the fit. Keep us updated on how you like it!

I got the Wii fit and I've been using it every day for the past 10 days.
I normally run for my aerobic exercise...then do yoga and strength training on the Wii. I like the way it keeps track of your progression (although my Wii age has been really up and down...sometimes my balance is good...other times not so much )
I feel like I'm starting to see some results, especially strengthening my core so I'm definitely going to keep at it!!

I've been using the Wii fit for 4 days and I really like it. I walked all the way across the tightrope at beginner and advanced today and unlocked the next step aerobics which was a lot of fun, (faster and longer than the beginner).

I'm pretty out of shape right now, and I'm hoping this will be a bridge to getting into more of a workout routine. It's easy to talk myself into doing the balance games, and once I've started it's easy to continue to some of the more challanging stuff.

I love my wii fit! I have been using it for 8 days straight! I can definitely say that I want to exercise more and need to get that fix! I love the yoga and strength portions. The hula hoop makes me SWEAT!
I am sad because I have to leave my wii fit for 10 days while I am in NYC for a business trip. I will make up the fit credits by walking everywhere. :D
I am hoping to lose some pounds before the 20 year HS reunion in August!

I worked out again today, and reduced my wii fit age another year. It thinks I'm 50, which I will take at 62! I also lost a pound since yesterday.

I did the step aerobics, and bettered yesterday's score, and also did the 3 minute run again. I passed my guide, and I don't know if that's good or bad, but the waving back annoyed me, so I passed the sucker! For strength, I did the first pose and really stunk it up! I need something to hang on to, but I will improve! <determined>

I also did the tilt-table, and finished it! All 8 levels! I'm working mostly on core and balance, with a little aerobic exercise -- I do water aerobics 2 days a week, so I get a lot of cardio there. I unlocked a new balance exercise - the Penguin Slide, which is fun!

I think this is a winner!:D

Well, you guys sold us. We are going to begin the hunt for a Wii today. I hear it can be a long and rough path-luckily we can get to all new stores every week.

Although, I must ask, how much space do you need to really use this? Is a large TV a must?

Although, I must ask, how much space do you need to really use this? Is a large TV a must?I don't think a large tv is necessary, but room to move is! You should be able to swing your arms in all directions, and step on/off the fit pad in all directions as well, without running into anything! Hope that works in your RV!

I've been using wii fit on my days off of my normal turbo jam workout. I did it today for the 1st time in a week and my wii fit age was down 8 years and i'm down 1.5 lbs and my BMI is also down from last week. I did all of my available yoga poses this morning, and I did the beginner step, and I did the short run through the park, that run actually got me sweating a little!

I wanted to do more, but i had to get going so I could finish planting my garden and move on with the days plans. I did a total of 20 minutes on wii fit. Maybe I'll do more later this evening.

When you go to the stores looking for a wii, a lot of the time they will have them in stock, but not display them. So make sure you ask. That's how we got ours. We've had it for over a year, but we were in best buy and saw someone in line it a wii, so we ran to the video game sections, no wiis to be found. So I asked, and they said they keep them in the back, and they brought one out for me!

Good luck!

You probably only need enough room to step 1 step off in any direction. I did the step aerobics, and that's how much room I needed. DD said that she thought the yoga was the same way. I know the short run only needs you to stand 1 step off as well.

We did try a few (4) stores today. Luckily, I wasn't expecting to find one right away. Sadly, the first store called the second store and then told us that they had quite a few in stock. After we drove 20 minutes, we found out they don't have any, and NEVER have had any. That really locked in the cranky mood.

We are going to keep hunting, but she is wondering if there is something in the Wii Fit that will help her work on her thighs?

yeah there is! There are lunges and squats. Plus some of the yoga will help with that!

30 minutes again today, and added an extra strength exercise! I'm having fun with the balance, and was only 36 wii fit age today! If I keep going like this, I'll be a teenager (again) soon!:D The weight and BMI was down after the session, but not before.:(

Tomorrow, I will be unable to exercise at my normal time, as I'm working the polls for local/state primary. I hope I'll have enough energy to work it in in the evening, but otherwise, I'll do it Wednesday!

Everyone else?

im thinking of waking up an hour early and doing abs and wii fit for that hour, then my normal turbo jam in the evenings. sounds crazy, but I just think wii fit is really fun, and i could always use more ab work :p

so tomorrow I will be up at 6am...doing abs (first) and wii fit as a reward for doing my abs. hahaha.

Fit Credits - go to the wii plaza and pick your mii. The left corner there is a little illustration of a graph. Click that button. The next screen there is a button at the top right that says activity log. Click that. There are three options and examples of the options. Go through the examples. Click which option pertains to your activity. Then add minutes or hours. That is it! :D

I think not being able to log the activity that occurred in the past is a real flaw. I have been doing the body test every day but not necessarily the workout. Also, I accidentally made it my goal to GAIN 10 lbs. I don't think I can change it for two weeks, but at least it's not yelling at me! (I've been gaining and losing the same 2 lbs for 10 days.)

I have definitely walked my way through NYC this week. DH has been logging my fit credits for my walking time. I can not wait to go home tonight and get back on the wii fit!
BTW, ther is a giant animated billbord in Times Square for the wii fit! :D

If we all complain to Nintendo, maybe they'll figure a way to log in previous day's exercises!

I haven't been as regular with it this week, but I did get back on track, yesterday, and even did some of the yoga poses. I just did the body check today, as I spent 75 minutes at water aerobics...;)

Anyone else keeping up with it?

I've been better at actually training for the last week (instead of just doing the body test.) I have been doing mostly aerobics and have unlocked the Advanced Boxing workout. Wow! It's really fun. I am having a little bit of trouble following some of the moves, but I like that, because it's challenging and really holds my interest. I've also unlocked a longer step, hula hoop and run, so I can do about 30 minutes of cardio without waiting too much between games.

I hit day 15 yesterday, so it finally let me change my goal to actually losing weight.

My sister is also set up to play, but hasn't used it in about 10 days. Her Mii is always sleeping on the opening screen where you select a player! There are a lot of clever little things built in (or perhaps I'm easily amused.)

I find the one thing that's a little annoying about the plank exercise is that it asks you to try to keep your balance...but if you're doing the plank right, you're looking down and can't watch the screen to see how your balance is. (and if you try to look up at the screen it messes up your balance!!!)

EXACTLY!! plus, it's pretty tough, so i have a hard time holding it for the full amount of time :o (i'll get better with more practice though)

i think it's odd that it tells you that +/- 2lbs in a day is normal, but if you've gained 1lb since the last time, it asks you for an explanation

i'm still having fun with it. i get thrown off doing the advanced step stuff, and i tried advanced boxing once and it was tricky to follow too.

has anyone else clicked on the balance board on the background of the main page that shows the categories (it's running on a treadmill or boxing with the bag) to do the advanced balance test yet? i get SO frustrated because i can hold the one where you have to be right at 50% on each foot for 2 seconds, and 3 is the requirement. i get SO close and never make it. it's tough! i HAVE noticed an improvement in my posture and balance since i've been "playing" this though....which is definitely a good thing :)

The best thing is it gets me off the couch and out of my office! As little as it is, I have noticed some differences. Most of it is I think that I am more aware of my body! That is a good thing!;)

KimberlyS

I did the advanced balance test. I couldn't get the 50% for more than a second. I think the emphasis on side-to-side balance is really interesting. I have more issues with swaying front to back, especially in the steadiness test. The emphasis has made me really conscious of my posture when standing and doing other things, though...chopping veggies for instance.

I unlocked Expert boxing yesterday. 10 minutes! I am going to stick with advanced for a while because I definitely don't have the patterns down yet.

We got our Wii Fit pretty much by luck. My bf checked Target online and a location near his parents had it in stock. So his Dad stopped by and they had a box of them. But I know other people are really having a problem finding then. There's a Nintendo store here in NYC and I don't think they can even keep them in stock. You'd think Nintendo would have made enough after the shortage of Wii consoles.

I got my Wii Fit last Sunday so today is day six of exercising with it.

#1 Lesson I learned -
Don't exercise for 2+ hours the first day trying to unlock the boxing. You will NOT be able to walk normally the next day.

Don't exercise in front of other people.

Encouraging comments heard from my Wii Fit:
-Do you find yourself having difficulty walking sometimes?
-It appears as though you aren't strong enough for this exercise.

I am naturally thin but really needed to work on getting a bit more toned. I mix up my routine each day but do two rounds of advanced boxing each day and my daughter commented a few days ago that I have a "little bit" of muscles now.

I also do the running and advanced step each day so I am hoping that I can build enough stamina to actually take a dog or two out for a run with me.

green1
06-21-2008, 04:38 PM
I mix it up a bit as well. Exercising, in general, bores me after a while. But, the wii definitely keeps my interest.
One day I will do yoga and strength. The next day I do balance and aerobics. Or yoga and aerobics. Or strength and balance.
I noticed my clothes fit better today!:D

I was finally able to find a Wii today. Not sure why they aren't out there....I ordered an in-stock Wii fit...to arrive Wednesday...

Was it difficult to figure everything out? I am from the original PONG generation, who got hooked on Tetris for awhile, but then left the gaming systems to the kids.

My son will plug it in for me, no problem....I'm really excited about it, because our gym is so hot and I can turn the air down and possibly get more done
If any of you can offer some advice, I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

I finally unlocked the boxing this weekend. I love it! It reminds me of doing tae-bo. And I am sore today though I'm not sure if that's from Wii Fit or the actual gym but I'll take it! I think my favorite thing about it is that it gives you a variety of exercises to do. My usual routine is 30-40 minutes on the elliptical or treadmill at the gym which gets really boring. So it's definitely nice to mix it up a bit.

I found it on Amazon. They said it was In-Stock and I should expect delivery on it no later than July 1st.

The Wii was my problem...I called everywhere...finally called Super-Walmart over in WVA and they said they had one, so I had them put my name on it and my nephew picked it up for me (they would only hold it 1 hour and wouldn't allow me to charge it over the phone). I now have the wii and am waiting for the wii fit.

Someone else correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you can until the time period you chose is up or you meet the goal. I originally set a goal to lose I think 3 pounds and I met it within a few days and I was able to choose a new goal at that point.

I just started this a couple weeks ago. I'm loving the snowboarding balance game. My DH loves the running because he's great at it. He seems to always burn over 100%, sometimes well over. I haven't figured out the secret to that one.

LakeMartinGal

I'm still doing mostly balance, and seeing a big improvement...

emilyn is right, you can't change your goals until the time is up or you've met it. DD accidently programmed in a gain instead of a loss, and had to wait until the time was up.

i swear that the first time, i set it for a month and it told me i could change it after 2 weeks if i wasn't on track...but it didn't let me change it until the month was up.

and i'd like to say that i'm STILL annoyed that you have to have an excuse for gaining 1-2 pounds since the last time when 2 is the "normal" fluctuation for a day. i know i already complained about that, but it really irks me!!

otherwise, i'm still lovin' it! and i finally beat the lotus pose - i didn't understand how to do it at first and would lose after a few seconds. i maxed out the timer now :)

Ohhh, this really peeved me! I wanted to change my goal (which was x pounds in 3 months, I think), and everything I checked online said I could change it after 2 weeks.

Well, 2 weeks had passed and I still wasn't able to change my goal. Turns out, I had to check in on day 15 and do the test, and then I would have had the option to change my goal. Not on the 14th day, not on the 16th or 17th day. To change my goal, I had to make sure I checked in on the 29th day. Then I was able to change my goal.

I think Nintendo's "after 2 weeks" is just a little too literal for me  otherwise, I am still enjoying my WiiFit, although I don't use it hardly as much anymore. Probably more in the winter, but I have noticed my balance is getting better.
