My father needs to be on a low fat/chol program before and after his bypass surgery. He loves chocolate, baked goods and sweets in general. Does anyone have recipes for this type of good treats?

I highly recommend Mocha Fudge Pie. Also, CL had quite a few brownies recipes that got good reviews, but I have not yet tried any of them. I can post Mocha Fudge Pie if you need it.

We've had good luck with most all of the recipes published in the magazine, many of which I'm sure are posted on the web site. If you don't subscribe, each of the last 2 issues (August is still on newsstands) have lots of good-looking & a few good-tasting (we've only made a couple) dessert & sweet recipes.
I'd also recommend any of Dean Ornish's books; he's an internist in California whose studies demonstrated improvement in heart disease thru life-style changes alone. His books explain the program & have lots of great recipes. But be forwarned: His program is 100% vegetarian, with only about 8% of calories coming from fat.
Good luck w/your father's surgery; dietary changes are the best thing he can do.

When making the pudding mixture, substitute 2 tablespoons 1% low-fat milk for the Kahlúa. In the topping, omit the Kahlúa, and dissolve the coffee granules in 1 tablespoon water.

NOTES : Featuring a thick brownie crust, a filling made of creamy mocha pudding, and— for the crowning touch— a coffee-and-Kahlúa whipped topping, it's hard to believe this pie could be light. Although it was originally scheduled for a later article on cooking with coffee, we couldn't wait to share it with readers and ran the recipe as our September 1994 cover story.
Store remaining 2 cups brownie mix in a zip-top plastic bag in refrigerator. Reserved brownie mix can be used for another pie or to make a small pan of brownies. To make brownies, combine 2 cups brownie mix, 1/4 cup water, and 1 lightly beaten large egg white in a bowl. Stir just until combined. Spread into an 8-inch square pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350º for 23 to 25 minutes.

I have a great chocolate cookbook from Hershey's called Hershey's Light and Luscious desserts. The plain old chocolate cake recipe is very good, I make it for birthday' s. I've even eaten the cake plain with no frosting, topping etc.
Four Way fudgey Chocolate Cake
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup skim milk
1/3 cup Hershey's Cocoa
1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9-inch baking pan with vegetable cooking spray. In large mixer bowl, stir together all ingredients; beat at low speed of electric mixer until blended. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden toothpick insert in center comes out clean. Cool completely in pan on wire rack.
