I have several questions as I'm trying to learn.

1. I read: "You may also find that the administrator has enabled smilies, which allow you to use small icons to convey emotion, and the [img] code, which allows you to add pictures to your message."
Q: What are the deciding factors? I do have some smilies available but no [img] code. Do you have to "qualify" by some to me unknown criteria?

2. The following was recommended by another BB member: "Click on the 'Insert Link' icon - right below the WHITE SMILEY FACE - and paste the link you have already copied."
Q: WHAT white smiley face?

3. Another "tip" posted: "Right click on 'image' you find here or elsewhere and copy the properties. Then in your post click the image insert button (yellow with mountain and sun) and copy the link into there. That should post your 'image'."
Q: What "yellow with mountain and sun" insert button?

No, I'm not a general griper, just trying to learn more. And I have printed the pages regarding the use of vB Code so that's all good and well.

Well, I'll attempt to answer #3 since I'm the one who posted the tip. When you are replying to a post look above where you're typing, there are a bunch of font choices and other options. You'll see the little yellow with mountains and sun image there. You'll actually find the white smiley face you asked about up there as well.

Thank you both very much for your replies.
Gumbeaux's reply quickly explained everything. I'm sad to say that as I type all I can see is a "box" with "Title" above the message window and 8 icon choices below - between the message window and the "Submit" and "Preview" buttons. Wish I could show it to you.
I do not anywhere see options allowing me to "upgrade". Have even checked my "User CP".
Do I have an older version?
Do I not submit sufficient number of posts?
Ah, well! Thank you again for taking the time to explain and trying to help me.

Oh, I see what you mean.

Try this:

Control Panel > Edit Options > scroll down to Miscellaneous Options

Gumbeaux and Robyn - You ROCK!
What a difference. How can I ever thank you enough for your tech support.
As for spell check, I have so far been cheating by copying to word and running spell check there.
I'll stop playing with my new and improved control panel and plant my duff by the sewing machine. DD1's due date keeps being moved up and so does my deadline for this baby quilt. One day I might be able to display a quilt pattern as my avatar. Until then the sewing thread will do. I machine piece but hand-quilt.
Y'all have a good weekend!

I don't really know if the spell check is activated on our forum because I use Google spell check. There are several other spell checkers.......Yahoo!, Firefox, etc....
