I just wanted to let all of the moms here who have Avent and/or Dr. Brown's bottles know that Babies R Us is allowing you to exchange your used bottles for credit--due to the BPA controversy.

I'm sure each store handles things a bit differently, but this is how the BRU near me handled it:

I was able to return the bottles (with or without nipple and cap) for exchange for other non-BPA bottles. My bottles were at least 3 years old--but in good condition.

A friend of mine told me that the BRU near her just gave general store credit.

Did you have/need a receipt??

Greta, thanks for posting that! I'll see what my BRU is offering. I've been wondering what to do with all those Avent bottles I've got stored since I wouldn't be using them if we have another baby.

ETA- Terri, I called my local BRU store to check and see what their policy is (didn't want to show up with a bag of bottles and have them look at me like I was nuts), and they said no receipt was needed, just bring the bottles and they'll exchange them for BPA-free bottles. The woman I spoke to also said that each store is setting its own policy, so you might call the store nearest you to find out how they're handling it.

As Stephanie said, no receipt is needed!

What I find amazing is that they are giving credit for the retail price. My bottles looked pretty good, but they were still used.

Just wanted to report that I took in 14 Avent bottles w/ rings and caps (no nipples- I'd tossed those thinking we'd buy new ones if baby #2 comes along) and left with 14 brand-new Dr. Brown's BPA-free bottles. My BRU store does require that you exchange specifically for BPA-free bottles, and they carry two brands- the Dr. Brown's and Born Free.

Just out of curiosity, why just Dr. Brown and Avent bottles?

Good question- I don't know if those are the only two brands BRU carries that have been found to leach BPAs, or if maybe they are in fact exchanging other brands as well- if you have another brand that is of concern, you could call your local BRU and ask about it...

I called my BRU and they are doing the exchange. They said that I need to bring the full bottles (including nipple and lid) and they would do the exchange. Unfortunately, many of my lids seem to have walked away, so I have to see how many I can round up...

(JP is almost 11 months old, so we will probably be DONE with bottles in a couple of mos, but it would be great to have new ones for the next baby!)

Definitely good to call first. I just called, and my store also requires the full bottle (including nipples and caps), and the catch here is that they will exchange them for a new BPA-free bottle, BUT I have to pay the difference. So, I have no idea what Avent bottles are selling for now, but when I go to exchange all my Avent bottles (I just rounded up 15 of them!), I bet I will still be spending some extra $ to replace them with new Dr. Brown's or Born Free bottles. Bummer. Whoever's store just gave store credit was really lucky!

Yes, MOM, I got the same info about paying the difference too.

Argh, went to BRU today with my Dr. Browns only to find that they were totally wiped out of the non-BPA bottles! They told me they're getting a delivery on Wednesday but that it may or may not contain the bottles. So helpful. :)

I exchanged my 14 Avent bottles for the new Dr. Brown's BPA-free ones and did not pay anything out of pocket- the cost came out to exactly the same. 3-packs of Avent bottles are $12.99; ditto for Dr. Brown's. So you should do okay. Not sure about prices on Born Free.

Thank you for posting because I had no idea they were doing this exchange. I took back our bottles yesterday (more than 15!) and got a store credit. I still have 4 bottles left but I need to call and see if they will take them back without the cap.

Born Free bottles are about $10 a bottle. My BRU does a bottle for bottle exchange, which means that I can't return two advent bottles for one Born Free.

I rounded up my bottles, but now I need to drive there...

Grrr..... I called my local BRU and they willl ONLY take back bottles purchased within 90 days and with receipts, etc. So frustrating that each store is setting their own policy, makes no sense whatsoever!!!

Ours has a similar policy...you must have the packaging with the UPC code on it:mad:
