I was going to add to last week's thread but then decided I would just start the new one.

It's been a crazy week...I have a person reporting to me with performance issues and it's been painful having conversations with this person. And keeping HR and my supervisor in the loop as well.

However, I have been running...anticipation of hot afternoons gets me out of bed in the morning to hit the road. And, no one is golfing on "my" golf course before 8 am!

We are going to see the Seven Year Itch on the big screen tomorrow night in our historic theater downtown. We've decided to go to the University gardens open house on Sunday. It's both days this weekend, but most of the talks I want to hear are on Sunday.

Les, I read your comment about tired legs and feet. I noticed that when I started my residency last year. I wasn't at all used to being on my feet all day. That may not be the case with you, though.

How's everyone doing?

Thx for kicking off the new week, KTG. Good that you've been running. Hopefully that keeps the work stress in check. We absolutely love seeing old movies on the big screen!

Thurs was a rest day for me. This morning I took Bode for a 40-min run around the neighborhood. I notice that I often feel more exhausted on these shorter runs w/Bode than on other runs. I'm hoping & thinking it's the added non-running factors -- tugging on the dog, carrying poo bags, carrying big water bottles for him, fiddling w/my headphones. All while running. I'm hoping that's it, and not something else. Not sure what I can do to smooth things out (OK, probably should ditch the headphones w/Bode)

That's always tough and exhausting in my book. Hope you get past the conversations soon.

I think a lot of my tiredness is I'm on my feet for almost 4 hours at a time, that I'm not wearing shoes that I would normally wear for long periods of time (runnign shoes that fit like a glove), and tile (or worse) floors for the whole period. I hope this passes before the end of the summer - I'd hate to be this tired all the time.
Susan - I wouldn't doubt that all the extra stuff is tiring - especially after... Maybe losing one thing would be helpful, maybe.

I took today off but not because I really wanted to. Strangely, there was little rain until I got to a mile from the house then thunder and lightening. By the time I actually got home the street was full of water (up to the top of the curb). Electrical storms around here are a big deal - there are lots of tall trees - so I opted out of a run or ride (maybe I sould have gone boating instead  ) I'll run tomorrow and ride on Sunday. Hope all are well and have a great weekend too.

Happy trails,
Les

Les, I am sure that being on your feet has something to do with it, but it is also probably the emotional expenditure of your role. I know that even though I see families in crisis situations in my work, the chaplains have to deal with ALL of them all over the hospital, and that has to take its toll. ONe of our chaplains was working on her PhD and did a class on "Compassion Fatigue" (the topic of her thesis), and it really delved into ways to combat it. Naturally, physical exercise is on the list, so keep up the good workouts.

Susan, sounds like your runs with Bode should be excellent for your balance! :D

KTG, Good job on your golf course runs. Sounds like a nice place to run! I have a similar evaluation I have to do soon, and I am not looking forward to it.

Finally went to the doctor yesterday and got an antibiotic. Just couldn't shake this thing. I have been doing a bit of yoga, but that's about all I can muster. Hopefully by Monday things will be back to normal.

Wishing you all a good weekend!

Kathy B - Thanks for the information. Considering where you are those words are sage advice. I agree, exercise makes a big difference with energy and I'll have to look into the "compassion fatigue" aspect. I hope you finally get better with the meds.

I had an ok run, probably about 10 miles and pretty hot by the end. I'm not very comfortable that the race at the end of August is going to go all that well. I'll finish but it may be the slowest and most pain-filled race I've ever run.

Have a great weekend and I'll be seeing you.

Back to backs but claiming a I had a good bike ride in. In all I rode for an hour and alas the ride was a little therapy because I found that the AC drian had backed up into the basement again and dumped about 5-7 gallons of water down there. Luckily it wasn't too bad and all the stuff at the low end of the basement is now on 1-1 1/4 high plastic shelves sitting on the ground or else the boxes would have been wet.

Hopefully tomorrow the management will come and clean out the trap again so we don't have to worry about a wet basement again.

Gotta fly but I hope you all have a great week coming up.

Happy trails,
Les

Hi guys! Checking in on the long holiday weekend to play trivia and say hi!!

Les, hope the basement stays okay. Nice job on your ride yesterday!

Susan, that's funny about your Bode runs. Meant to ask - I think you mentioned taking your bike out for errands last week. What do you do when you leave it places? Do you have a beater bike just for errands and such? One reason I never ride around for errands anymore is I'm too loath to leave either of my bikes unattended, since no lock seems too reliable (unless you know of some super lock? :)) I know I wouldn't be away from the bike for too long, but still don't want to chance losing either of them.

ktg, the movie at the classic theatre sounds like fun! How was it?

KathyB, that's interesting about "compassion fatigue". Can definitely see why physical exercise would help with that, as it does with work stress and so many other things :) Glad you got the antibiotic and I hope you feel better soon.

I have two runs and two rides to report so far in the past couple of days. Today I plan to swim and do yoga, and tomorrow go for a long ride. Fingers crossed on both accounts!

Hi to everyone else. Is Seathyme out there? Haven't heard from her in a while - hope she's all right. Ditto for Betsy. Take care!

Quick check in. My ride was fantastic this weekend! I'll be posting a report on my blog in the next day or two. Right now I'm keeping my blog as private but if anyone wants to read it let pm me your email address and I'll get you added. There are some teaser photos on the Photos Today thread on Other Stuff. :)

Congrats Robyn!! Nice pics. I especially liked the last one. Lovely scenery!

Back from the pool. I hadn't had high expectations since it had been so long since I'd swam, but I didn't s-u-c-k as much as I'd thought I might. :p It was a good workout and nice to do something different.

Happy Monday (ugh), runners.

First -- yea Spain!! (Euro2008 winners. First championship in 44 years. We watched at the UW union w/all of the international students. Very fun)

Tabbykat - how was your triathlon?? I tried looking you up, but there were no athletes registered under Tabbykat :-) I hope you had a blast & everything went smoothly.

Robyn - Thx for checking in. So glad you had a great ride. I'm off to go see the pics.

Nat - I would totally feel that way about using my road bike for errands. I use my mtn bike for tooling around town. It's not a beater, per se. But, I'd be less heartbroken if something happened. We have a typical lock & cable system. Not foolproof, but makes me feel better than nothing. I never leave my helmet or light on my bike.

Speaking of which....we rode our bikes downtown on Sat night to watch July 4 fireworks extravaganza. Very fun. I will count it as my workout for that day. Sun - nice 40-min run sans Bode. It took my legs a while to loosen up & get into the groove, but once they did, it felt fab. Followed by a 2-hour hike at a new park w/Bode. V fun.

Gotta run. Looking forward to the short week!

Neat pictures Robyn It would be interesting to hear about your adventure. Great runs/rides/swim Nat, it sounds like you're moving along smartly. A shout out to you too Susan, the dog park run sounds like another day of fun.

I took a rest day today and I hope to be home soon enough tomorrow to do a run or a ride. It should be a possiblility so I'll plan on it and make a date - I need to get back into doing good runs/rides - it is good therapy too.

Talk to you all later -- Happy trails,
Les

Hi everyone!

We got back from vacation on Sunday and I still feel a bit foggy and slow in returning to the Real World. I have to go back thru the previous 2 weeks posts, but wanted to pop in with a great discovery (no, not the results of the 2-week-long rum tastings, or the best place for fried seafood, although I do have that information handy...)-- I am now able to run on hard surfaces with no shin pain!

For those who don't know, when I began running seriously 2+ years ago I found that running on concrete or asphalt gave me awful shin splints. So bad that I could barely walk for days afterward. That is when I began using trails through our woods (which DH kindly prepared for me), or running on the beach while on vacation.

I was concerned that our vacation house did not have a long sandy beach, such as those I am used to in Nags Head or Delaware, but I had to do something to purge the drink and food from my system. There was a small beach about a 10-minute walk from the house, but when DH and I went we found that it really was small-- 2-1/2 minutes up, turn, 2-1/2 minutes back, turn, 2-1/2 minutes up... and so on. We looked silly. So I did some front leg stretches and off we went on the roads. Amazingly, there was no pain. The next time, we went for longer. Then longer. No Pain! Why???? All of a sudden???

Anyway, I was able to keep at least a little fit during the past 2 weeks. And something fun-- I can now try to run races like you guys do! I still feel tightness in my ankle, and a little instability, but maybe I can plan to run in something next spring. :D

It was really a fun, and surprising, discovery.

It's great to be back and, once I've caught up on work, I'll be back more regularly.

Victoria - welcome back from vacation. And major congrats on the pain-free running! That's awesome progress

Nat - Happy Canada Day! (I learned all about that last week on a walking tour in Montreal :-)

Robyn - Curious what you ended up using for fuel on your ride. Did you find chewies that you liked? Or did you revert back to good ol' energy bars?

Les - good luck on your 'therapy workouts.' They probably feel esp rewarding & cathartic

Had a good 40-min run w/Bode at the dog park today. Simply glorious weather.

Anyone planning on a July 4th fun-run??

I am taking my sister to one (she arrives tomorrow from Houston). It's a race I've never done b4, but I chose it b/c it's flat (and cheap, which is a bonus). We had both hoped to do the 10K, but she said she hasnt' been running much lately, so might revert to the 5K. Either is fine by me. It's a holiday & that's the important thing!

Love the idea of virtual running buddies. I got in a five miler this morning. I aim for a five mile average through the summer, since I seem to have more time. It sure makes me feel like I'm cheating the clock. What a great idea to support exercise!

Susan, I ended up using the Clif Shot Blocks Margarita with Salt flavor which has extra sodium to help with cramping. I did end up with the start of a cramp during the Sunday morning long slow climb but ate a couple of those and drank some additional water and it went away. Not sure if the extra sodium helped, the water or the combo but hey it went away and that's all that I cared about. I didn't use nearly as many as I thought since the aid stations had gatorade that I was adding to water bottle but I was glad I had them anyhow.

Susan, makes sense about the bikes. Thanks for the info! Sounds like you had a lovely weekend. And yes - YAY SPAIN!! :D I can just imagine how fun it would have been to watch the game from a Spanish cafe - too bad I'm not there ;) Seeing it at the int'l students union is a great idea, BTW!

Got in a great ride today - 2 laps up and down a country road with nothing but rolling hills. It was challenging with the wind and because I wasn't riding with DH. (He was doing the laps too, but faster.) To boot it was my longest ride ever. It was hard for me to push myself much at first without DH because I missed his coaching and encouragement - but as the ride went on I got better at pushing myself. We also ran into an IRL running buddy and stopped by her place afterwards for a chat with her and her husband - very enjoyable all around. Nice way to spend Canada Day morning!

Vicci, welcome back from vacation! That's an awesome discovery!! Could it be that the strengthening you've had to do because of your injury has helped you overall so you can now handle roads better than before? I was just commenting this morning how my post-injury rehab allowed me to ditch my orthotics and change shoes - maybe the injury has had a silver lining for you. Just a thought.

And if I ever make it down that way, you bet I'll want to know ALL about the best places for fried seafood :D

Robyn, how's the post-race recovery?

Best to all for the week ahead! Plans for the 4th?

Nat

Actually, recovery hasn't been too bad. Sunday night I didn't get much sleep as my legs were just really achy. Not specifically sore muscles just achy all over which meant I just couldn't get comfortable. But, since then other than a couple of twinges here and there I've felt great. Back is a bit sore but not badly so woohoo! I was going to ride today but I didn't get my tires changed last night and I don't feel like riding on the knobbies so I think I'll wait until tomorrow. Then, crazy me, has a near half-century planned for Friday. :p I think I'm hooked. :D

FYI, the race report is up on my blog. If you'd like to read pm me an email address and I'll add you asap.

Nat - Congrats on your longest bike ride ever!! That's a big milestone. Sounds like some good mental training, too, riding solo. It took me a long time to get used to that, eventually I learned to prefer it. Just you, the road & your thoughts.

Robyn - So....was it a race or a ride?? ;-)

Prudence - Glad you found us. Are you running for anything in particular? A race? Weight loss? Fun?

I'm personally proscrastinating cleaning my house at the moment!

Haha! Ride, definitely not a race! But I did pass some women....

Whoops! Your competitive streak is showing! :p Great pictures on the other stuff thread, too. If you are doing another one Friday, I'd say you definitely have the bug. Have fun!

Susan, I am also procrastinating. Need to get the guest room done. DH made a reservation for his mom, and accidentally scheduled her to arrive the morning after we get back from our vacation.:mad::o We use the guest room as a catch all room much of the time, so this is no small task we are speaking of. Oh, well, at least DH knows he has to help! :D

Natasha, you are certainly getting in a lot of variety with your workouts. Good job! And Happy Canada Day! :)

Welcome to the group, Prudence, and feel free to chime in! :)

What a great discovery, Vicci! You will have so many more options of running places now. Congratulations!!!! And welcome back from your vacation. It sounds like a great place.

Les, hope you had a good day and managed to get your run/ride in.

I did some yoga this AM and weights this afternoon at the CC. Hope everyone's week is off to a good start!

Natasha

Kathy, hope all goes well with your MIL's visit! Good luck with the spare room (well, hopefully that means good luck supervising as your DH clears up the room)! :p

Susan, that's cool that you now prefer riding alone. I am fond of running alone (though also enjoy running with others), but think it might be a while before I actually prefer riding alone! You never know, though - it really was a ton of fun once I warmed up and got used to things a bit :D :D

Robyn, I had a look at the blog entry - what a wonderful race report. Your excitement and awe shone right through. Way to go!! It's so awesome when you find a new thing that inspires you, isn't it?

Gotta go before my DH buys a carbon fibre racing saddle that weighs 95 grams and costs $350 ;) (he's beside me surfing his favourite cycling sites). Just kidding - he won't buy it, I don't think, but I do know he's tempted! :p

Edited to add that now he's trying to convince me that I should upgrade my mountain bike (which I do not need). It's a silly time at our household (okay, so no sillier than usual!). :p Time to get our sorry selves off the computers and head to the video store. We're hoping to pick up In Bruges. I've heard it's good.

Take care, all :)

Kathy, I'm a ski racing coach so, um, yeah there's a bit of competitiveness in me. Good luck with that guest room.

Natasha, I'm glad you enjoyed the report. I've re-read it so many times because it makes me smile. I suppose this will keep me happily busy for the next 3.5 months, which is when the ski season returns. :D Hope the credit card survived the cyclist websites. Has he found www.chainlove.com? One deal at a time but they generally slash prices like crazy.

VictoriaL

Susan did you get around to cleaning, or did the procrastinating work until you discovered another diversion? Just having "simply glorious" weather would have made me go outside. :)

Yep, Robyn, you are hooked! But this addiction is soooooo much better than many others, huh? ;)

Kathy I guess that the antibiotic worked if you did yoga and weights today-- glad you're feeling better!

Nat, you know I hadn't thought of it, but with my restrengthening program after the broken ankle, I just may have conditioned myself into road-running! Thanks for the insight. Your ride today sounded wonderfully athletic. :D

Les, it sounds like you're still just loafing around and taking it easy... ;)

I had an unplanned run when I went outside to put fish on the grill for dinner and saw a coyote at the edge of our yard. Spooky had been in the same area, at the end of the start of my running path, and I took off to find him. I ended up running all of the inner paths (not in the woods) and finally located our cat near the barn where I snatched him up and took him into the house. No more early evening romps outside for him now!

And I hadn't mentioned our vacation much before since I was being a bit superstitious. This was a special vacation for our 25th anniversary and I was afraid that I might "jinx" it if I thought about or talked about it too much! This is where we stayed:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8d838b3127ccec4330ed1414a00000020O00AZNG7Ro4cuG IPbz4S/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D480/ry%3D320/

It was magic. Directly on the ocean, I cannot describe how wonderful it was. The top room in the "tower" was one big room with windows all around and perfect for morning yoga and stretching. We mostly stayed at the house, but took a day trip to Cape Cod and one into Boston (both places I've never been to). The kitchen was fairly ill-equipped, but I made it work, and I'll never forget these two weeks. I'll probably never again stay in such a place, either! :) I'm still walking on air a bit...

I'll report on my "hard-surface" run tomorrow. Back to the Real World.

Drive by but I had to comment directly on...
I had an unplanned run when I went outside to put fish on the grill for dinner and saw a cougar at the edge of our yard.
That's plenty of reason to run in my book. Glad Spooky was safe and unhurt. Never met a Cougar but they could be quite troublesome to house cats.
And I hadn't mentioned our vacation much before since I was being a bit superstitious. This was a special vacation for our 25th anniversary...
Congratulations! You beat us by a couple months (Oct 1 will be 25 for us). We're also planning on a Anniversary trip but ours will be a little early - October is right in the middle of classes and I'm not sure that I could deal with the stress of traveling and classes.

I had a good ride tonight. A little disjointed because I saw an instructor that I needed to talk to. Still pulled down about 40 minutes of fun in the failing light.

Gotta fly - hope you all are well and happy Canada day.

Happy trails,
Les

Vicci -- that house is beautiful! I'm glad you had a great time and congrats on the anniversary. And, wow, a cougar! I'm so happy for you that you can run on the hard surfaces without pain.

Les -- sorry about the water in your basement. Is the tiredness getting any better this week at work? The explanation of compassion fatigue was interesting and I could see how you could experience it.

Natasha -- thanks for asking about the movie. It was the Seven Year Itch and was fun. The Wurlitzer organist played for 15 min before the movie started, which I wasn't expecting.

Kathy -- good luck on the guest room clean-out! I hope you are feeling better, but you must be since you are doing some yoga and other stuff.

Susan -- It's great you can ride your bike on errands and other activities.

The SIL of one of my co-workers lives in my town and the co-worker is coming to visit the SIL for the weekend, so we've been invited to her 4th of July party. It should be fun.

I better get going...it's getting late and I have to get out for my run. It's been in the 50s in the mornings which is so nice.

VictoriaL
07-02-2008, 09:15 AM
ACK! I'm so sorry-- I meant "coyote", not "cougar" (either of which are detrimental to house kitties). I simply should not post (or speak) after 9pm... ;)

Les, actually, you and your wife have us beat by a few months-- our anniversary is December 10, but we decided that a trip to the beach in New England would be lots more pleasant in the summer... "Early" is good!

Today, I ran in the local park. And they named it Round Hill Park quite appropriately-- wow. My heart rate average was as high as my best day on the trails, but I only ran for 23 minutes because I just couldn't get rid of a side-stitch. We'll see how the shins are tomorrow, and if there's no pain then I am absolutely clear to run with the big kids! :)

Natasha

Vicci, that looks like an amazing place! Did you have the run of the whole house?? Wow... just... wow :)

Nice job on your run today! Glad Spooky is okay after the coyote incident.

Les, glad you got in a ride despite your busy day. I am guessing your ran today; is that right?

Robyn, my fellow gearho -- you are evil! :D I will show DH that site and see if he's heard of it before. We didn't buy any gear yesterday but as always it was fun to browse ;) That reminds me that a new branch of our favourite outdoor store is coming to a town closer to home! We are most excited. Good to hear the recovery is going smoothly.

Kathy, that's so cool about the organ playing. Enjoy the 4th of July party!

Off day today save for core, yoga, and maybe some light weights. Have a good evening, runfolk.

You think that's evil? I talked a friend into spending $2000 on a road bike and gear a couple of weeks ago. She hasn't bought any bike in years and even then it was a basic cheapie mountain bike.:p:D Here's your next lesson. www.steepandcheap.com which is the same idea but has a wider variety of gear.

Uuuuh, Nat.....I wouldn't call that an "off" day! :-)
Me either! :D

Vicci - I understand early too. Our celebration will be in early August with a trip up-country - celebrating 25 years and survival of the summer. A coyote is a big deal too - just a little nicer than a cougar. It sounds like you're getting back inot the running thing - it didn't take all that long did it?

Welcome Prudence I hope we see you more often around these parts.

Kathy - Things are better in the basement and it took nothing to get things dried out and repaired.

Nat - Today was supposed to be a running day but a bioethics issue/project came up and I need to be ready for a report on Monday so that took precedence, but I hope tomorrow is a good day for running or riding.

Late again, no run because of work. I will be around for the rest of the week but next week will be problematic for running as I'll be on call the whole week. But for now sleep calls so... until tomorrow runnahs (and a shout out to the rest of the gang too - didn't mean to slight anyone).

Vicci - your vacation getaway looks so spectacular! I've never been to Cape Cod before, either. Definitely on the "list"

Sister arrived in town safely yesterday. We had some questionable weather, but the rest of the weekend should be spectacular.

Here's my question for you guys.....she is a very new runner, and has already fallen off the wagon. Just having a hard time getting motivated to run. She is registered for a half-mar in Jan. I'd love to help, and definitely want to run with her while she's here. Here are our two options:

1) Do the 5K fun run. I'd run with her at her pace. Walking breaks, if needed. Just get it done and enjoy the 'race' atmosphere and feeling of accomplishment. The race is part of a neighborhood festival, so we'd hang out for a while afterwards with food, etc.

2) Just go on a regular training run together. We have a nice, flat, scenic trail nearby that would be really fun. We can go for whatever length of time we want, run/walk, whatever. Afterwards, we'd drive out to a July 4 parade, so still have some of the holiday feel.

What do you guys think would be the best option?? I haven't posed the 2 options to sis yet.

Natasha

Okay, so not a total rest day, but compared to the past 5 days it was ;) Actually, I didn't do the weights so it really was pretty much a rest day in my books :)

I'd like to start another thread where people (VRBs and others0 can share their great gear sites. Maybe I'll do it tonight :)

Les, hang in there - sounds like you are crazy busy!

Robyn, I've convinced buddies to buy quite a bit of gear too - guess you could say we are gearpushers :p

Take care, guys!!

Natasha I look forward to the thread (although my wallet does not!) but I'm sure to have lots to contribute considering I participate on 2 boards that are heavily gear oriented.

Susan, I'd say do the race. Maybe the adrenaline and endorphins that come with that kind of atmosphere will hook her. ;)

VictoriaL

Nat yes, we had the whole house. I got to play Lady of the Manor! Well, except that this Lady was compelled to pull everything from the kitchen cabinets, clean, and organize. I couldn't function in such an atmosphere! And sweep under the beds, since that's Spooky's favorite place to be in a new situation... ;)

And I agree, the yoga, core, and light weights do not add up to a "light day" in my books, either!

Les, in some ways my rehab seems to have flown by, in others it feels as though it happened eons ago... I hope that you're able to stock up on some well-deserved rest this weekend, as well as get out for run/ bike time!

Robyn, you're a troublemaker! I have to be the voice of reason with DH or we'd have all kinds of equipment lying around...

Susan, I'd vote for doing the 5K fun run-- it will be a party atmosphere and that may appeal to your sister (making it less of a "run"). Wish we had something like that around here!

No shin pain today, so it looks as though I'm good to go. Now, should I buy a pair of running shoes since the ones I have are trail-runners?

We are going to the lake housefor a couple of days and attending a cookout on Friday, but it's supposed to be rainy all weekend. Bummer. Oh well, friends, food, and drink are just as enjoyable indoors! :D
Hope that you all have a great long weekend!

Who, me? Never. :D:D:D

Glad to hear that you're able to do some hard surface runs, you're giving me hope that one day I'll get rid of this PF and be able to run again.

Susan, I'd do the race too. Since it's a fun run, I'd think there would be lots of more casual runners and walkers. If you do the trail run, she might feel more like she's holding you back vs. a fun run neighborhood event. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Although I'm not totally into gear, I thank you guys every day for telling me about Body Glide!! Love that stuff.

Happy 4th!

Did an easy 2 miles this AM after some yoga. Went pretty well. Working tomorrow, so Saturday is my next chance to get anything in.

Susan, I'll add my vote to the majority....the 5K sounds like the way to go.

Natasha, good idea for a thread! If I can find it, I'll add a site that I ordered ski gear from which has very reasonable prices for people who don't ski that much.

Les, I know it's not aerobic, but I am sure you are putting a lot of miles on your shoes walking around the hospital. Not a traditional workout, but not exactly being a couch potato either! ;) We are heading out on vacation before long, and I'll have to count hiking and sightseeing as my exercise for the most part. Guess I'll live....:p

Vicci, not letting my family see your picture, since I have them agreeing to CAMP this trip. They'd swap for that place in a heartbeat! Glad to hear your shin problems seem to truly be a thing of the past. Happy asphalt running!

Hi to Kathy, Robyn, and all that follow on the new thread! Wishing you all a Happy (and safe) 4th of July! :)

Happy long weekend, folks!! Have a happy and safe 4th.

Kathy, nice job on your run and yoga. Hope tomorrow isn't too hectic a day at the hospital for you with the holiday and all.

Susan, enjoy the race! Sounds like it'll be a good time all around :)

Vicci, that's so awesome that you felt good the day after the hard surface run!! Just think of the possibilities! Robyn, hopefully you can beat your PF and join Vicci soon :)

Hi to Les, ktg, Robyn, and the rest of the gang!

Enjoyed a 55 minute indoor spin today while we watched TV. Now for a walk and stretching.

If I can still get a vote in Susan I'd do the race too, that will be more fun in my book. Regardless, have fun with your sister.

Kathy B - I'm sure that I do plenty of walking and climbing at the hospital, especially climbing beacuse all the principle places I go in the day are on different floors: cafeteria, office, classroom, and units (and the floors are mostly double height) so I do plenty of climbing. And you're right, the units are in a different building (attached but still a ways away) from the office and classroom. Throw in having a whole floor that's oval in shape and about a block long on two legs of the oval and I walk around there a lot. I hope you don't have a busy day tomorrow - luckily I'm not on call... it could be wild at the hospital.
Nat - Crazy busy... that's a good description. $350 for a seat - I only ask if it starts the coffee in the morning. ;) Good to keep DH in check too. ;)I hope you had a good rest day.
Vicci - That's my plan, sleep as much as possible getting ready for next week and on call. I'll definitely run and ride over the next three days too - also before I'm on a 30 minute tether.

Howdy to the rest of the gang - Robyn (I'm up for your PF being gone too), Kathy, and the rest of the gang. I'm not even going to lay out my excuses/reasons tonight but it was a bookend day that actually started before "official" work time on a page and ended with the shuttle not showing up for almost 30 minutes (I would have gotten home plenty early otherwise). After sleeping in tomorrow I'll probably go out for a decent ride to see the sights and get some real sun.

Happy trails all and Happy safe 4th of July,
Les

Fly-by...

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!! Have a wonderful day, all.

Les, what a pain about the shuttle. Hope you enjoyed the much needed lie-in and have a fun day seeing the sights.

Got in an early morning 50 minute run because I am seeing the physio today and as many of you have heard me say before, I don't train the rest of the day after I see him. Best to all! Catch you on the new thread, I guess!

Quick post for me too. Happy 4th of July everyone! I did a 40 mile bike ride this morning. My personal longest ride by more than double! So I'm sore, mainly my back and butt but I've extended the emotional high for a bit longer.
