Happy Monday!

I walked my batootie off in NYC this weekend!! Believe it or not - shin splints walking the sidewalks of New York! I had a great time. I ate lunch at BLT Market - phenomenal crab salad - it was soo cool inside - farmer plank tables, huge paintings of tomatoes on the walls. They gave you an elegant pigs in the blanket tasting for a first bite - too funny!

Back to reality! I did Burn and Shape this morning - felt good. Cardio for tomorrow. This should be a somewhat normal week - we're hosting a pool party on Saturday with 20 people, so I need to get my party plan organized!!

Mrs. Wertz - welcome!!!:)

Valerie - bears again??!!! Did you see that horrific news article about the teenager in Alaska who was mauled by a bear?? Wow.

CJ - How did you do this weekend??:)

Charisse, I read that this morning. We carry bear spray after the third bear in two rides. we also carry bear spray when we hike in grizzly country but the cans outdate, so I dug out older cans and sewed holsters for them (to keep the release clip attached) so they fit on the outside of our bike packs.

There was a followup story a couple weeks ago about a woman mt biking in california ( a few years ago) who was attacked by a cougar the same day a man, also biking, was killed.

Bikes let you move faster and more quietly than hiking. because of the rougher terrain it's hard to look anywhere but front of your front tire. DH surprised an eagle sitting on a rock. It's funny, I'd never read about this as a "risk" but we carry spray and hope we never need it. black bears are usually not aggressive but mt bikes can put you right next to one so quickly that all bets are off. I actually think cougars are a bigger threat. our limited experience is that you come up so fast, animals don't have a chance to get out of the way.

Uff da! Scary stuff - what's in the bear spray?

I did Cardio Overdrive with Allison this morning. I really like this workout - 45 mins of good sweaty routines. Got on the scale this morning.... up 3 pounds. All that wine ;) I should be able to lose it fairly quickly by exercising and cutting back on my beverages!!:D Notice I said cutting back NOT cutting out!

Ran errands today - supposed to be beautiful tomorrow so fingers crossed for a good pool day.

Hi everyone! Got 2 of my 3 treadmill days in. I'm aiming for three days again this week. It's so hard to find the extra time. When do you all find time to exercise?

I'm a Learning Support Aide in the schools so I have my summers off. During the school year I make myself go into the basement after I've checked backpacks/homework situations - I have 1 hour before sports carpooling/dinner etc... It really is difficult to find the time. Back when I was working at a large corporation and the kids were really small I didn't get home till 6pm. DH (sweetheart) knew that my classes were really important to me and twice a week he did dinner for the boys and himself while I went to the gym.

Glad you were able to get 2 out of 3! Big start. Keep at it!! :)

I did Time Crunch ... just did the weights and abs. Making cookies/pickles and cleaning today.:)

Charisse, sounds like a wonderful time in NYC!! Great workouts, too! Don't worry, that scale will go down - I'm sure the wine was worth it!

Valerie, that bear stuff is scary!! Hope you never have to use that spray, but it's good to have it.

Spotted Pony, good job on the two workouts! I get up really early to get my workouts in. It's the only way it's going to happen. Usually around 5:30. I've got four school-aged kids, so after work is out of the question. And I collapse around 9:00pm! I'm really used to it now. I feel weird if I don't workout. We also have a gym here at work, so sometimes I'll use the treadmill during my lunch break.

I've been following along with the summer rotation from Cathe's board. Today was Imax2 and tomorrow is the last workout - Drill Max. I'm not sure what I'm going to do after that. I like following a rotation. Otherwise I'm staring at my DVDs trying to figure out what to do each day.

Have a great day all!

Hi, all!!

Charisse - I'm jealous -- we love NYC! We always walk like crazy, too. There is so much that we want to do that we really pack our days when we are there. Good job getting back to your workouts!

Valerie - Glad your vacation was a safe and fun one! It's so good that you're prepared for anything and everything.

Spotted Pony - Welcome! 2 days last week is a good start. Keep it up! Like Joanne, I'm a moring exerciser. I'm up before 5 and usually am exercising by 5:30 a.m. If I don't do it early, it just doesn't happen. My DH runs so he's up, too. That helps a lot.

Joanne - I'm still working on Cathe's June rotation. I've fallen a little behind since we were out of town for a week. After that, I think I'm going to do the one your finishing. I looked at Cathe's July rotation but I don't have all of those DVDs and don't feel like figuring out substitutions! I like to have a plan, too -- it helps make sure I balance weights and cardio. If left up to me, I don't think I'd ever work legs. :D

And speaking of legs, today I did Pyramid Lower Body. I'm glad that's over. I was a wuss, though, and didn't pyramid my weights up. It always amazes me how fast I lose my conditioning. Vacation was only for a week!

We had a great visit in Lexington. DH's grandparents, aunt and unlce live there. DH's grandfather has been in the hospital for several weeks. A number of issues, spiraling one after another. We weren't too hopeful but each day, he was doing a little better. He was transfered to a rehab hospital before we left and is now able to eat which he hadn't done in quite some time. It's nice to finally have some good news!

Ok the scale isn't moving as fast as I'd like (not that it would have anything to do with the CCC batter I ate yesterday!!!)

So this am I decided to do Stepboxing - this really works me. Sweaty mess at the end.

Joanne - I do the stare everything morning.... good to know the rotation works for you. How has your summer schedule been? Are you guys going on vacation?

Stacy - It's hard when older relatives go through things like that..Glad that the visit turned out well. You'll be back in the swing of things before long.:)

I forgot to say that I bought a new workout top while I was in NYC. Usually I just pull on old tank tops over my sports bra but I decided to treat myself;) This is a bright aqua vneck front and racer back... it's long enough to lay over my shorts. This is my biggest reason for not buying these tops b/c many times they are so short!!! However, as nice looking as it is (and has done wonderfully while I workout) I have to wear my bra underneath - due to my chest size:rolleyes: - so it really stands out b/c the top is a racerback. Oh well - just me working out... maybe I need to check out different sports bras!:p

Have a great Thursday everyone!!

I'm not too fancy about my workout attire. usually "bike shorts" and a short sleeve top, coolmax or whatever the synthetic tops are made out of these days. works for me and is interchangeable with most hiking/ biking stuff.
I just bought a bike top. I got one for DH and saw how much he likes his, so thought, why not? most are longer in the back so you don't get a couple inch gap above your shorts from the leaned over position. ordered one from Terry. Holy cow, I ordered a Large thinking it would be certainly be big enough and a little big is better than snug. it is teensy. absolutely teensy. Even DH looked at me holding it up and said "No WAY is that gonna fit". Granted, it's stretchy but I'm not into the painted-on look. I want to ask about sizing but for some reason they're closed today. I'm not sure even an extra large would fit so will reorder after they are open again. Sigh ... that's the trouble with mailorder. in the picture it does not look like it fits skin tight at all.

Spotted pony, twice is twice as good as nothing and three times is three times as good as nothing. Pat yourself on the back for getting it done and try to figure out spots to wedge in a little more. Don't beat yourself up for missing once in a while, just schedule the next session and don't worry about it. sometimes life conspires against the best plans. I had to take a vew days off after our vacation. My hip got so sore I couldn't do anything... couldn';t even stand on one leg to put on pants! must have pulled a muscle somehow, but it's better with a few days off. I started back with the elliptical and we did a medium hike yesterday. It's an ongoing process, and yeah, Stacy, conditioning really does disappear in a flash.

someone asked what's in bear spray... it's an aerosol of hot red pepper that shoots about 20-25 feet. It's the same as the mailmen carry against dogs but on a larger scale. It is awful in your eyes and nose but is considered more effective than a gun against bears. One needs to pay attention to which way the wind is blowing though, and the can has to be easily grabbed and sprayed. It is temporary discomfort, nothing permanent. we accidentally discharged inside our camper once... it was awful for a few minutes.

Just finished with the treadmill!! :D I feel so proud of myself! Thursdays are my "home alone" days so I had no excuse.

Now I need to go put the horses back inside. I made them stay outside for two hours. They are threatening to call animal control and tattle on me! My horses HATE the outside. They are 16 and 18 year old semi-retired show horses and they want nothing to do with bugs, dirt, heat, rain, etc. Wimpy things!;)

Good for you CJ!!!:) And fresh air has got to be good for the horses!!!;) Tell'em to suck it up!!!:D

Valerie - Exactly why I decided to try on a few tops while I was in the store!!! I usually go mail order for stuff and it is frustrating! I have a pair of shorts from Title 9 that I really like but I've been holding back buying tops. Like you I usually pull on an old tank top but sometimes it's nice to "feel" and look fit!;)

I did BSS4 with Pam this morning. Starting to see the definition in the arms again. Yea.

Rainy day here - sticky. We're supposed to have 22 at the house tomorrow for an OUTSIDE pool party.... Ummm same forecast for tomorrow - sticky off and on showers and tstorms. 11 of these are kids... Guess I really need to clean house, Bill said he'd try to rig up tarps/tents for the deck and patio. Should be interesting. Wish me luck!:o
