Question about 8" and 9" cake pans

I have two identical round cake pans but I don't know if they are 8" or 9". Do I measure the bottom of the pan from the outside, or from the inside, or do I measure the top rim to top rim?

I think you measure from top rim to top rim. I think any of the methods you listed will give you roughly the same result as long as the sides of your cake pan are straight up and down. If it were a pie pan, that would not be the case.

I was curious about this and went and got out my round cake pans.

Mine have the size stamped into the metal on the bottom of the pans, but I also measured the pans and got a more accurate measurement when measuring from rim to rim at the top of the pan, then measuring the bottom, the bottom measurement was off 1/4 - 1/2 inch on both sets of pans.
