Hi, all! Got in a 3 miler this AM, weights yesterday, and a little under 5 miles on Wednesday. The weather is finally cooling off here, and the mornings are pretty pleasant for running.
Les, I hope your last day at the hospital goes great, and I also hope that the whole experience was worthwhile for you. Chaplains are indispensable in a children's hospital! Nice to end with a half day and hopes for a good ride. Enjoy!! :)
Carrie, I can't believe you were even running in 90 degree weather, let alone running fast! I don't even go out if it's over 80. Your legs are entitled to be tired. I don't have any experience with a coach, really, but I do get tips/pointers from DS who runs CC in HS and has 2 coaches to get advice from. Nice that way, because no one gets after me....:D
Natasha, what are you reading? I just picked up several books at the church garage sale. Right now I am reading a Sidney Sheldon book that I may have read many years ago, and then I have a couple of political/espionage type books to read. The sale/spaghetti dinner went well. They usually make several thousand dollars (it is a HUGE sale and very fun to shop!), and it all goes towards upkeep of the church.....new roof, replacing carpets/flooring, furnace repairs, etc...
Robyn, hope you get in a better ride soon. How is your new bike saddle? What a nice gift from your mom! Did you have a nice visit with her?
Susan, way to get those runs in while you were gone. Good luck on your 10K tomorrow! Sounds like a fun way to start the weekend. You are right about your sister needing to be motivated herself. We have found the same with DD. I was really trying to get her going with something (ANYTHING) just to get her moving. Now that she has discovered she likes tennis, she is self-motivated, and that makes all the difference.
Tkay, nice to see you again. Keeping it short as you get started again is probably exactly right. Tennis is a great thing to do as a family...glad your boys are enjoying it.
Laundry and errands this AM. DS got rear-ended a few days ago, so he and I are taking his car for a few more estimates. So far we have one for $20 (said it just needs a washer ), one for $500 and one for $1800. The one for $1800 was the only place that actually got down and looked underneath the car. Think we need a little more input.... While it is kind of a drag going around to all of these garages, it is certainly good experience for DS.
Wishing you all a great weekend! :)

Thanks for starting Kathy! What a bummer for DS to have been rear-ended, but it's a good experience to be involved with the repair decisions. I wish I would have had more of those experiences growing up. Good job on your runs and weights.
Robyn, I hope you had a nice visit with your mom and sorry about your flat tire.
Les, hope your last day of the internship is going well.
I can't remember much more about the end of last week's thread, so I hope everyone is doing well.
I have had a pretty good week, exercise-wise, and it's been busy at work. I ran this morning, 4 miles, and the humidity is down a little. It was so much easier to run. I also plan to do some weights today. No big plans for the weekend. I should probably do a little yard work.

Happy Friday! Woo hoo! I have tons to do, but after this busy week, work will just have to remain low key today. I am very ready for the weekend. And, it's just gorgeous here right now. Looking forward to my friend's 10K tomorrow. It will be our first time doing this race.
Today's a pre-race rest day. Our LSD run for 'this week' will be on Mon, due to my travel schedule & the race. We're treating the 10K as our tempo workout for the week.
Les - happy, happy last day!
ktg - good to hear from you. Sounds like your runs are going well.
Kathy - What a crazy range of price estimates! Doesn't sound fun. The church sale does, tho. Very cool to get virtual coaching from your son.
Newsomz - I will join you in your hot, humid runs! For some strange reason, I really like it. It might be my Texas upbringing. DH's body doesn't do well in extreme heat, though, so we try to avoid it when running together.
Here's the question of the week....what running event are you most excited about for the Olympics??
For me, it's the 5K (Madison guy is competing!) and marathon (b/c I'm a big Deena fan, and think the whole US men's contingent rocks!). I"m not a big fan of the track sprint events. I have to confess....the athletes always seem really, really arrogant. Definitely a generalization. Plus, the events are just so darn short! I'll put the triathlon into the running category, too. Definitely a must-see for me.
Robyn1007
08-08-2008, 11:53 AM
Yeah, I'm most excited about triathlon for running related events.
Mom's visit was good but way too short but yes it was really nice of her to get me the saddle. Because of it I got a much better one than I would have gotten myself but she insisted. No ride for me today and tomorrow I'm helping a friend move so next up for me is Sunday.

Thanks for starting Kathy B, I'm impressed with your run and I'm also sorry about DS getting rear-ended too. Never fun to get whacked in a car and hopefully the offender's insurance picks up the tab (or most of it). The last day at the hospital was good, a little/lot bittersweet - saying good bye to the folks there was tough, especially those who I've spent a lot of energy with.
ktg - Good job on your runs this week and 4 miles is a nice distance - especially since I cna't remember the last time I ran that far all at once.
Susan - Good luck in the 10k tomorrow - maybe... no not now. I'm not suyre what races I'll be interested in for the Olympics. Marathon for certain (both genders) and the middle distances (5k, 10k) and the steeplechase.
Howdy to Robyn - Congrats on a new saddle.
As I said, it was nice to get out of the hospital today and have a chance to breathe without the pager looming on the horizon. I did get out for a nice ride this afternoon - just over an hour. A tad warm but good to get out.
Off to figure out dinner so until later...
Happy trails,
Les

Hi Everyone!
Welcome back into the fold, Carrie! :) I've had a few hot & humid runs recently and am quite happy that those will soon be coming to an end. Remind me of this when I whine about 20-degree days in February...
KathyB, I'm glad that your DD has finally gotten "into" tennis and likes it enough to continue. A good role model you are. ;) We are also having cooler weather on the way and I am looking forward to running in it.
Kathy busy at work, but still finding the time to exercise is great! And yardwork this weekend, in the moderate temps, sounds like some nice aerobics and strength-training.
Good luck in the 10K Susan! I've committed to one, but next September so I have the time to work myself up to it. Can you tell me about how many minutes of running it takes to complete 10k? I don't really measure the distance of my runs and it would be nice to know how long I should be running.
Nice gift from Mom, Robyn. They're pretty great, aren't they (I mean Mom's in general although a nice new saddle is pretty great, too!).
Les, you've put your heart and soul into this internship and should be exceedingly proud of what you've accomplished! Enjoy your time off and relax well. :)
Our visit with my parents last weekend was fun, but I knew that I'd have to put in some additional exercise time this week once I walked into Mom's kitchen and saw what was on the counter (Mom is a great baker and there were 2 pies, peach and blackberry, and also brownies, and blueberry coffeecake). Sooo I can report a run on Tuesday (40 minutes), Wednesday (54 minutes), weights on Thursday, and a 15-mile bike ride this morning. I feel almost human now, but the crash from the sugar-rush on Tuesday was almost painful!. And don't suggest that I not eat her baked stuff, or consume in moderation, because I have no willpower...) :o None. Zero.
We were supposed to have guests this weekend, but they cancelled so DH and I will attend a friend's annual summer party tomorrow evening and, like Kathy, I will probably do some yardwork on Sunday.
Have a great weekend, all! :D
Leslie Ferguson

Thank you for your compliment Vicci, it certainlyhas been a summer hasn't it? Sorry that your guests bagged on you but it sounds like you have plans for the weekend that will be palatable. ;) No willpower against your Mom's baked goods? As I see it you did the two things you had to do - eat and run. Glad you're feeling back to normal now. Hopefully you'll get some good work in the yard done this weekend - it's supposed to be nice out. I'm really planning to relax a bit and be a lot and do a little or whatever tickles my fancy.
Fading fast - energy drain after a busy 11 weeks so until later (may be a little scarce for a few days... R&R will do that), happy trails this weekend.

Hi everyone!
Kathy, thanks for starting us off. Sounds like you've been getting in some great workouts! I also like political/espionage type books, so if one of the ones on your to-read pile is a winner, could you please let me know? I went to the library that night and picked up a book and a bunch of magazines (Bicycling, Runners World, Backpacking, etc.). I flipped through a couple of the mags and started the book. It's The Lost Constitution by William Martin. I've read a couple of his other books and enjoyed them - they alternate between historical times and current day.
Sorry to hear about DS's car but glad he is okay!
ktg, hope the yard work is enjoyable this weekend!
Susan, have fun at your race!
Vicci, those desserts sound delicious. I'm so impressed by how much you're running and riding - must be heavenly after the time away from it.
Les, congrats!!
Robyn, sorry your mom's gone already but I'm glad you had fun.
Today has been busy so far with the farmers' market, errands and a bit of visiting. Soon I'm off for a massage. Yesterday I rode but only for about 50-something minutes (still better than nothing, of course!). Today I plan to do weights and core and maybe another short ride... not sure yet. I would swim but the timing doesn't work today.
I also need to tidy up a bit around the house... we're having houseguests next week who hopefully won't mind if everything's not pristine! :)
Take care, guys,
Nat

Overcast and cool today, so I went out this afternoon for an easy run, a bit under 3 miles. ALso did weights earlier at the CC with DD. Not sure what the plan is for tomorrow yet....
Natasha, I'll definitely let you know if the books are good. And I'll check out William Martin. I love to read, but sometimes it takes me a while to find something I like. When I find a good aurthor, I pretty much read everything they've got out! Good job on your workouts, too! Sounds like you are getting a lot of variety.
Les, glad to hear the last day went well. Enjoy your R&R!
Vicci, good job on your workouts, too! You are definitely back in full swing, aren't you? Have fun at the summer party!
Nice of you to help your friend with their move, Robyn. That can probably count as a workout all by itself. It is a LOT of physical labor. I am sure it was much appreciated!
Looking forward to your 10K report Susan. Hope you had a great time!
Not really sure what events I will want to watch....guess I better get busy and look over the guide. DH has a small satellite that gets international channels (mostly so he can watch European soccer and his mom can watch shows from home when she is here), so we have some extra options for viewing the Olympics. There seems to be more coverage of smaller events and definitely of other countries besides the US on the international channels (also less commercials!).
Good job on your run and weights, Kathy! Isn't it a relief to finally get a break in the weather?!? Good for doing yard work, too!
Gotta get supper going, so signing off. Hope your weekends are going well! :)

Hi everyone!
Kathy, thanks in advance for the book recommendations! That's cool that you can work out with your DD - that must be fun for both of you. Nice too that you get the international channels; the variety must be neat. DH and I saw some Olympic coverage on English and French CBC, alternating back and forth depending on which sports were on. The French coverage was better, so we watched that for a while - long enough that when we got back to the English coverage, hearing the commentators speak English was momentarily disorienting :p
Today I got in a looong ride and run. Was so lazy about it beforehand but am glad I did it. Now I need to do a bunch of stuff, including stretching, stretching, and stretching (my new P/T job ;)). But I'm not complaining!
Hope everyone else is doing well!

I'm grumpy because I had another bad ride today. Cramping in both my left quad and hamstrings most of the 25 miles. Not sure what's up right now but I gotta break out of this funk.
Here's a funny video relating to the swim portion of triathlons. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3S0wu4Zbfk

Hey all, it's been a quiet weekend here on the road. Western PA is beautiful and chilly - a chock after VA (it was only 60 yesterday and in the middle 40s last night - didn't pack anything to survive 40 degree weather either). Nat, somehow I think any house guests will be just fine with the state of affairs in your house. Not to fret.
Haven't caught up on things and I need to pack so LW and I can get on the road. We'll check back later this evening, maybe after a ride (got my bike with me for this road trip).
Happy trails friends,
Les

Thanks for the "memory jog", Nat! The name "William Martin" sounded familiar, and I haven't had time to get to the library for weeks and am nearing the pile of mags which Mom sent back with me, so I went and checked out the bookshelves-- sure enough, there was a William Martin book there. Rising of the Moon. Are you familiar? I flipped through the first couple of chapters and it seems as though I may have read it before, but I'm going to give it a try anyway. Actually, it's an unproofed advance copy I received from the publisher in 1985-6, so it will test my editing skills as well as giving me something to read. :)
And don't worry about the house. Take it from me, I bust my bu** cleaning before houseguests come and I sincerely doubt if they ever even notice the details, as long as it's straightened up and you can't write your name in the surface of the furniture! ;)
KathyB I am back in full swing now and I love it, love it, love it! If I absolutely had to break my ankle/foot, I'm glad that it happened in January! What country does your MIL hail from?
Can I ask the obvious, Robyn, do you have an adequate stretch program? Almost anything that goes "wrong" with my workouts is because I get lazy and try to cut corners by not doing as much stretching before and after (and on "off" days, too). And thanks for the link, but we dial-up users cannot view YouTube, alas... hear the dinosaurs in the background???
Les, you being in the northern part of western PA have experienced even chillier temps than we in the southern part are getting, and this is cool enough for me! I don't think that I have even had to wear jeans in August, but then again I've never been able to spend so much enjoyable time out in the garden as I've had yesterday and this morning. Have a safe journey and enjoy!
How did the 10k go, Susan?
This morning, I had to wear a jacket on my run! DH and I went to a nearby park since the grass was soaking wet and, where I don't mind getting my feet wet on the trails in warm weather, it was just a bit too cool for that today. The park is less than a half mile away, but it's off a narrow country road which seems to attract a lot of speeding trucks, so I just don't feel comfortable walking to the park.
Afterward, we drove the route we took in the park (the first section is 1/2 mile up a hill, no wonder my HR gets going quickly!) and we did 3 miles in 35 minutes. As I said, lots of hills and steep enough that I had to walk them, so that's probably why I'm not doing those 4 minute miles! But the HR was nice and high, so that was fine with me.
Hope that you all have a good Monday!

Howdy, runners! Happy new week. Although I wasn't totally successful, I tried to stay off the PC over the weekend. It's so addictive. Glad to see all the fun workouts for everyone.
Robyn - Sorry about the cruddy bike. Wonder if you've got a touch of overtraining? Might do you wonders to have a week of really low-key workouts. Just a thought.
Les - Enjoy your travels & break
Nat - Did you get the house cleaned? That could count as a workout in my house.
Well, my 10K was really, really fun. Lots of rain that dried up & cleared away just in time. I actually felt sluggish most of the time, but powered it out anyway. It was a very small race (70 for the 5K, 30 for the 10K), which is a fantastic challenge mentally. Very good practice to run race pace with no one else around. I don't have the age group results, but know that DH came in 8th overall and I came in 17th overall (out of 27). We laughed that most everyone may have gotten a medal :-)
Someone asked about how long a 10K takes -- was that Victoria or Kathy? I've forgotten now. But, Runnersworld.com has a great time/pace calculator where you can plug in your pace and it will give you the finish time for most any distance. My time was 55 min, so a 9-min mile. I wasn't expecting to PR, but was wanting to run a touch faster. Oh well :-)
Mon was LSD day. I did 14 miles. Felt OK, but not as good as the previous week. I've been doing some research & will go shopping for new scooters this week. Can't wait to try something new!

Vicci, yeah I've been stretching it but have spent some additional time on it the last couple of days and will continue to do that. I love it when you first start pulling out jackets in the fall. It's coming! I saw pictures from the top of Gray's peak here taken yesterday with a dusting of SNOW!!!!! :D:D:D
Susan, nice job on the 10k and dealing with the mental challenges of a small race.
I'm not sure if it's over training or stretching or what that's going on with me. Last night I swam and while that felt better it wasn't great. Actually, I'm wondering if my nutrition isn't out of whack as well. I've had a really hard time finding a balance between enough calories to fuel training but not so much that I'm not loosing some weight. I'm working on that stuff again right now, have done additional stretching. Tonight is my group ride which I'm looking forward to. Hopefully it was just a couple of funky rides and I'll break out tonight.
A sweet story for you all. My dad and I were not close while I grew up and I never felt good enough for him. As I've become an adult we've connected much better and cooking and sports are really where I connect. I cam home yesterday and found a surprise in my mailbox. My dad sent me a copy of Joe Friel's "The Triathlete's Training Bible". Way to make me cry dad! :D
SusanMac
08-12-2008, 11:49 AM
Robyn, that's really a sweet story! What a wonderful surprise. (and...Joe Friel is a god! You'll love the book)
I had forgotten you were amping up training & trying to lose weight simultaneously. That is definitely a trick to finding the right balance. I know you'll stick with it, though, and find what works for you!

Robyn, that's sweet about your dad. Good luck with the rest and/or stretching and I hope you get your zip back soon.
Susan, nice work on the race! Very cool that most people won something or other :D
Vicci, I haven't read that book but do let me know if it's good! I'm enjoying the other book so far sort of - some of it is irritating me but I'm trying to get past it because the plot is interesting. Wow, a jacket on your run... won't be long 'til I'm doing that here (I can wait!!).
Did stretching and core last night and today hope to ride (or maybe run?).
Best to all,
Nat

Robyn - The YouTube clips were great! I had seen the ClifBar one b4 -- cracks me up no matter how many times I see it. Hadn't seen the kids one b4 -- it is soooo cute! I could spend all day on YouTube. It's so addictive.

Robyn - Thanks for posting the You Tube clips! The tri-children were what got me out the door today :)
I can now report a 30 min run. I almost didn't make it out the door because I ate early with DBF. However, after watching the video Robyn posted I just had to get out and burn up some extra energy. Whew! I am glad I did.. I felt so much calmer after the run.
Okay, that's all for now. I am off to study for my last final. Thursday I will be all done. Woohoo!

Hey gang, kind of a drive by this evening. I'm having a great vacation and even a little VRB IRL action. Ran this morning for about an hour and rode this evening with a little company for about 80 minutes. Felt great. It's been a good 4 days since I took off and I feel a little more recharged.
I'm trying to read everything that's been said. Robyn It is definitely dificult losing weight and training for endurance events, I hope that you keep enough fuel in the tank to not bonk in your trainig.
I'll try to post more later - glad all are well and right now I'm suffering from fat fingers so I'll sign off.
Happy trails,

Hey everyone, just a quick post for me as well since I barely got home and still need to stretch, finish eating dinner and shower and it's almost 9pm. Much better ride tonight. Well except for coaching getting not one but two flats and me dropping my chain at the bottom of a big hill. The good news is that I fixed the chain and got started when coach and another woman were half way up the hill. I gave chase and if I'd had 10 more feet I would have caught them. :D
SusanMac
08-13-2008, 08:50 AM
Robyn - glad you felt better on your ride.
Les - a run & a bike in one day?? Isn't it great to have no school or intern work for a bit?
Newsomz - nice job running, esp after dinner. Once I hit that point, there's no hope for an evening workout.
I did get in a bike spin yesterday. Just 15 miles. It's the first time that I've worked out the day after a long run. My legs were spent, but it still felt good to loosen up.
Oh, and I got new scooters!! I'm trying the Brooks Ghost this time around. They're a new model for Brooks. They feel soooooo light and comfortable. It actually makes me worry that they will lose cushion too quickly & need replacing more quickly. We'll see. They are supposed to be more stable in the forefoot, which is where I get calluses. Inaugural workout for them will be this afternoon.
Natasha
08-13-2008, 11:30 AM
Robyn, glad you had a good ride!
Susan, hope the new scooters are as good as they sound like they will be.
newsomz, good luck with the exam and nice work on the run! I sometimes run after dinner (after digesting) and it is hard to do it so late but sometimes it's just inevitable, right? Do you have plans to celebrate once exams are done?
I have a ride to report - also about 80 minutes, with a couple of speedy guys ;) Good fun! I will see if I can convince said speedy guys to come out for a short run with me later this afternoon. I know tomorrow will be an off day because I'm travelling.
Take care, all,
Nat

Hi Everyone!
Susan thanks for the link to the pace/time calculator at Runners World. Actually, there are a few things on that site which interested me. And I've been looking at new running shoes lately, too. Let us know how your new ones feel.
How nice of your Dad to send you that book, Robyn! And good job on making up so much of the distance after your chain drop yesterday. I hope that you had a better day today.
Carrie I'm with Susan, evening runs are practically an impossibility with me...
You sound as though you're really enjoying your break Les. And it's certainly well-deserved!
Good for you, Nat, keeping up with those speedy guys! :D Did you get them on a run with you, as well?
Today was one of "those" days. I woke up in a fog, and just couldn't get going. After a few delays, I went out on the trails but it was so difficult to get started. By 15 minutes, I was ready to pack it in but I forced myself to go for 40. My HR was low, but at least I finished! Tomorrow will be weights and yoga, hopefully a bike ride on Friday will be more satisfying. :)
Leslie Ferguson

Robyn - What a ride. I've never had anything that was quite that challenging - a chain at the bottom of a hill but I guess tat' better than two flats like your coach. Great ride, maybe next time you'll have that extra 10 feet. :D Great story about your dad too.
Susan - It is nice to not have anything hanging over my head right now. I think I did a double just to see how I may fare in the race at the end of the month. I think I'll be okay - not speedy but definitely ready. Congratulations to you and your DH on your race. It sounds like a lot of fun, it's nice to have small races every once in a while just to keep the running enjoyable. I'd guess there's no one from MI at Nat's place, it might be a packed house if anyone else was in the neighbourhood. ;)
Vicci - Cool wasn't the word for it. Coming from VA where it has been so bloody hot it was downright frigid. I'm glad you're able to take advantage of the weather and get out to the garden though. I guess that if there's a good time to break your ankle then the middle of the winter isn't a bad time.
I'll answer for Nat - said speedy guys went for a nice jaunt yesterday. One of the guys (ok me) had a couple dead legs for the first part of the run (go figure that) but the day was grand and the company even better. I think I'm going to rest this morning - LW and I are planning on a little sightseeing and I expect a bunch of walking around Toronto. Depending on the conditions tonight I might take a bit of a spin when we get back, one never knows.
Howdy to the rest of the gang - I hope that everyone is well. Life is great - no big pressures for a couple more days (and then it's just driving back to VA :( ). I hope everyone has good runs on the downside of the week.
Happy trails,
Les

Well, the good news is that I made it out to put in a solid interval run. 5x800m. I was tempted to blow it off, but didn't have a good reason :-) I'm definitely glad I got out. Came home and made Asian turkey & cabbage rolls for dinner - yum.
The bad news is that I ran in my old shoes. It had been raining off & on all day. I know I can wear my shoes once or twice & still return them if I have issues. So, I didn't want to have them out in the mucky roads.
Yea! US won medals in both the men's & women's cycling time trials! I thought I'd point this out....b/c you'd never know there were any other sports at the Olympics beyond swimming & gymnastics. Oi! We did watch the men's TT on the web, but it's weird b/c there's no voice over. Just straight video.
The women's 10K is tonight! I'm excited (it's at 1 am, of course, but that's why god made DVRs)

Hello runners!
Vicci--I had one of those mornings this morning! And then I started my workday with a bunch of stupid, annoying stuff. So I finally took a 3 mile run at noon and now I feel better, so I'm glad I did it.
Les--congrats on finishing the internship! It sounds like you are enjoying the break with some exercise and relaxing activities.
Susan--I haven't watched much of the olympics, except for a little swimming. Thanks for the heads up on the 10K.
Carrie--how did the final go?
Robyn--I have the same problem with finding the nutrition balance, although I am not nearly as active as you are. Part of my reason for exercising is weight loss (as well as being healthy) so I have to be careful not to let myself go overboard eating "because I ran".
Natasha--safe travels!

Les, I hope you are continuing to enjoy Toronto.
Nat, Hope the traveling went okay.
Vicci, Ugh, I hate those kinds of mornings!
Susan, I would have done the same thing with the shoes, I hate getting new ones filthy right off the bat.
Ktg, I hope you are well.
Kathy, Where'd you go? Hope the car repair stuff isn't too horrible.
I swam last night, did my first 3/4 of a mile swim and it felt good but at the end my arms were dying. I have a horrible habit of forgetting to kick while swimming which I'm working on but it's been a hard one to well, kick. :p (I know, I know, I'm a dork) Haven't decided what if anything I'm doing tonight. Tomorrow is off because I'm heading to the mountains where I'll ride both days. :D

Hi all!
The travelling was good, thanks. Thanks to Les for reporting the run. I was a bit tired at times but enjoyed it a lot. I'm glad for the rest day today - my legs can use it, I think.
Looking forward to the triathlon coverage on the weekend. Also at a ridiculous hour for me, but I will probably watch streaming video later.
Vicci, hope weights and yoga went well, and that the bike ride is fun.
Kathy, glad you fit in your run!
Hi to Robyn, Susan, KathyB, newsomz, and the rest of the gang

Les/Natasha - How fun that you two were able to meet up!!
Robyn - Great job on the workouts! Have fun in the mountains this weekend.
ktg0930 - I ended up doing a 3mi run today at noon, too. How funny! Mine was very overcast and then it began to drizzle. Very nice.. the coolest run I've had since March :)
Susan - Hope you get to try out your new scooters soon!
Vicci - Glad you were able to finish out your workout! Have a good bike ride tomorrow.
And yes I am officially done with exams!! The exam wasn't too bad and I met a friend up for drinks afterward to celebrate. Woohoo! It is good to be done for the semester.

Susan, of all places I spotted running skirts at Target tonight. Nearly bought one myself then remember, um, I'm still not running. Although the foot is getting better...

Sorry that you had to run in your old shoes Susan, but it sounds like a productive day of running.
It's been an interesting evening watching the Olympics -swimming and 100m prelims. I can't believe how fast those guys run and swim. In my wildest fantasies I couldn't go that fast.
Congrats Carrie on being done with finals. How much longer until you start back at classes? Hopefully not too soon.
I did take a rest day today - my legs weren't totally unhappy with me but if I had run today they certainly wouldn't be happy. I'll probably do something tomorrow before another day out with LW then the last couple days in Toronto. It has been a great time - just what the doctor ordered - I've got to figure out how to get up here more often. :D
Happy trails all - who gets to start tomorrow?
Les
