DH's favorite cake of all time is CL's Sour Cream Pound Cake, which I am going to make for him this weekend. We usually eat it plain, or sometimes with strawberries or some other fruit, but I'm thinking I'd like to try something new. What do you guys put on yours?

Yum--strawberries and chocolate sauce! :)
Sorry, no new suggestion there, but that's usually the only thing I do with pound cake. Guess you could combine different fruits, peaches and raspberries together.

My husband is a "purist" when it comes to pound cake and only eats it plain. I like it very much with sliced fresh peaches.

Shouldn't it be 'What does your Pound Cake put on you?' :p

I made this a few weeks ago and added a little lemon zest to the batter. Also, I made a glaze of fresh lemon juice mixed with confectioner's sugar. It was a real hit!
Hope this helps!

I am a huge fan of the preparation Luv to Cook posted. Some vanilla ice cream is always good with it, too. And any yummy fresh fruit.

I agree w/ the lemon zest. And on that same note you could add lime or orange zest.
CL had an issue w/ a whole section on Pound Cakes - maybe Spring 2000??? My favorite is Black and White Pound Cake. Divide the batter in half and miz cocoa and chocolate syrup in one half. Layer the cake before baking. Yummy! And it looks so impressive!

I like to slice them horizontally in several thin slices, spread raspberry jam, then relayer. It makes a beautiful presentation!

As a kid (a little large at that) I LOVED butter on pound cake. Talk about insult to injury! But I do still dream of that..........
How about some spiced LF cream cheese, cinnammon or vanilla.
Dark Cherries would also be wonderful. Or a tropical 'sundae'...frozen vanilla yogurt with mandarin oranges, pinapple chunks and a little toasted coconut.

After becoming addicted to the pound cake dessert at Maggianno's Little Italy, I now toast regular pound cake and serve it with sliced bananas, hot fudge, and ice cream.
I guess I should be on another board, too.:D

Leftover pound cake is a good choice when making a trifle. (you know, cake, custard, fruit, whipped cream, sherry ... all layered in a dish) Not very light, but delicious!
Oh, and don't forget that you can use leftover crumbs seasoned with a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon as a topping for a streusel type pie or apple brown betty.

Thanks for all the ideas! I really like the idea of the lemon zest and lemon icing, but DH would probably freak if I messed with the recipe AT ALL. Its his favorite thing, but I make it maybe once a year for him...
I think I'll try the peanut butter! I've been very partial to PB lately!

Nowadays I like it plain or with some fruit. But like you, Kelli, I grew up having pound cake toasted with butter. My grandmother introduced me to this and she beat colon cancer 11 years ago and is still going strong at 88 so it can't be all that bad, can it? Ok, I admit it, I still do toast it and put butter on it every now and then.

When I lived in NYC as a teenager we used to go to Child's Restaurant and order pound cake with icecream and chocolate
syrup! Never saw this offered in any other restaurant.

Sliced bananas drizzled with caramel sauce... yummm! Another favorite is to top the cake with a good coffee ice cream and drizzle Kahlua over it.

Thanks for the gelato dulce de leche suggestion Kim - at least that a *little* lighter! Heather

LEMON SAUCE
1/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
4 thin lemon slices
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
Whisk sugar and cornstarch in small saucepan to blend. Add 3/4 cup water. Whisk over medium-high heat until mixture thickens and boils, about 2 minutes. Stir in lemon juice, lemon slices and grated lemon peel. Cool. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and chill. Bring to room temperature before serving.)
Makes 1 1/4 cups.
