OOh a new month! Thanks Pony for starting us up so promptly.

I'm wondering if we should pull Willybean and JRM24 into a special "Waiting to hear from.... " category. They haven't been on the thread much lately, and their due dates are pretty well past. Hopefully they're just too busy with their babies to check in! :) Otherwise I think the roster looks great.

Not much happening here - that always seems to be how I start my posts! Baby boy was quiet yesterday AM which freaked me out, but I rode out the panic and he was bopping around by the afternoon. I do hate it when he does that though... I had lunch with a friend at 22 weeks. She must carry small, because I felt huge next to her. And I know I was definitely much bigger at 22 weeks then she is right now. But she looked great, and that's what matters. It was great to see her and catch up and talk uninterrupted baby talk for 2 hours.

I'm going to a baby shower on Saturday and supposed to be finishing a baby hat. I'm not doing very well at that task... knitting with a purpose just isn't lighting the fire I need to finish it. And it is Wednesday already....

Happy October everyone! :)

Done! The funny thing is that when I saw JRM24's date, I thought she was only a couple of weeks past due. I can't believe September is gone. I think Ike made it fly by for me!

I was up early for some reason, so got it done after I did birthdays :)

Glad you had some nice baby talk time. My little one has been bouncing off the walls the past 2 days, I'm curious if he/she will keep it up today.

Thanks for getting us started, Pony! Having a new thread on the actual first day of the month is quite the feat.

Thanks to all for the middle name suggestions. I ended up checking out a baby name book from the library yesterday. Went through and made a list of every single possible single syllable, even ones I didn't really like. So we went over it at dinner and decided that we didn't like any of them better than what we had. So baby girl will officially be a mouthful (we all have my maiden as a middle and DH's last as a last so we're talking 4 names each) but in practice will be short and sweet. Sorry to be so mysterious but we're keeping it a secret from everyone and am actually amazed we've made it this far. With DS, we'd decided on a boy name before the big ultrasound and were planning to keep it secret. That night DH emailed ultrasound pictures to immediate family, not realizing that one was labeled "Ben's face". Oops.

It's funny how different people carry. I feel like I'm at 9 months size but was chatting with Ben's gymnastics teacher on Tuesday and she was shocked to learn I'm due next week. She thought I had maybe two months to go - yikes! I can't even imagine.

Another checkup and NST tomorrow, can't wait to see if there's any more progression...

Hi Ladies! Happy October :)

It's SO weird to be so close to the top of the list, lbd and mabvt, I can only imagine how you're feeling right now, less than a week away :)

Nothing particularly new to report out here. The nursery finally is moving along, and the cribs were delivered yesterday. I found these amazingly perfect little prints at Babies R Us of all places, so the walls won't be totally bare! Just for reference, the walls are the exact same color as the elephant, so you can kind of see how the prints fit into the room (furniture is white)
http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pG01-4802914reg.jpg

I have my 32 week appt. at Maternal Fetal medicine tomorrow, so we'll be able to tell just how big these giant babies are. I'll keep you guys posted :p

One quick question, does anyone have a good list (or care to make one) for baby related medicine/toiletries would be good to have in the house? That's the one area that I'm lacking in.

Hey all, October already ?!?!?

Okay, It's a Girl !!! :D Ah, the excitement... Nick is so happy to have a sister. Before I found out I was pregnant he rubbed my belly one morning and told me he was going to get a baby sister - little did I know he was going to be right. Now DH and I are mulling over names and the nursery. DH is pretty much elated with Natalie. I love that name but keep looking to make sure it's the "one". I also like the nickname Bri so Briana is in the running, along with Kylie so far. And the nursery...a whole different story. I had free reign of Nick's room and he loved it. Now, every pattern and color is coming under scrutiny from DH. I'm still leaning towards brown and pink with more of a neutral theme. We'll see!

Pony, has your little one been bouncing today? I've recently had consistent movement and I'm loving it! :D Thanks for starting the thread!

Helios, even when I was 9 mos. with DS, everyone thought I had months to go, I don't know if it's how people carry or what. I'm fairly little to start with and DS was only 6#1oz. This time around I feel like I'm bigger. Who knows. Is the shower this weekend yours?

lbd - so close, YAY! Fingers crossed you have progressed more!

bekki - I'm sure there's lists online to use as guide lines. Here's mine off the top of my head (however helpful it is :o):
Vaseline (esp. if baby is a boy and being circumcised)
diaper rash cream (my favs are Bordeax's Butt Paste or Arbonne)
infant tylenol drops
mylicon gas drops
thermometers, regular for rectal and digital
baby nail clippers
baby mittens so they don't scratch their face
tear-free wash and lotion
TBH I'm actually drawing a blank for more. Is this along the lines of what you were thinking?

One of those nasal aspirator thingies. Although if your hospital gives you one when you are there, snag it. Works soooo much better than the ones you find in the store.

So my doctor walks into the exam room and says "why are you still pregnant?" Beats me! ;) Four cm and over 60% effaced with the baby "very low." She did a rather vigorous exam to see if she could stir things up and I've been feeling extra pressure since (all 3 hours!) so we'll see what happens. She also half-offered me an induction spot this weekend -- said she's on call all weekend and has a couple patients already past their EDDs scheduled to be induced. If any of them go on their own, she'll call to see if I want to come in. It was totally out of the blue but DH and I have discussed it and think we're going to go for it if we get the chance. If I don't deliver this weekend, there's a good chance I'll deliver before she's on call again and will have a total stranger deliver baby girl. I've always known that was a possibility but if given the choice I'd rather have my own doc. I'll keep you posted.

As for toiletries/medicine to have on hand, don't buy too much. There's very little you'll need as an emergency and won't be able to pick up later. With DS, I bought several different baby washes and lotions because I kept getting all the coupons. I still have at least half of it almost 2.5 years later. Stuff I would put on the list that we actually used is:

A&D
Boudreaux's Butt Paste
Infant Tylenol (generic)
a basic med kit (baby clippers, nasal aspirator, thermometer, there's other stuff but I'm not sure I used any of it)
Johnson's Hair and Body Wash (also generic)

I got some roll-on baby powder but didn't use it much until more recently. Also, it's not for several months but when we started him on solids, I got a bottle of infant benadryl (need I say generic?) to keep on hand. So far, DH is the only one who's used it.

Hello girls--

I had a doctor's apt today. I am still dialated to two and have grown about a centimeter in the last week. It feels like more! Doc said Baby is "on deck" and apparently I have been slowly losing my mucous plug over the course of the last week (sorry if that's TMI!).
Also, the nature of baby's movements has changed- less jabby, more subtle.
It sounds like I'll likely make it through my last day of school tomorrow. I was late getting into my room this morning and the kids were convinced that I was at the hospital.

Fancy-Congrats- A girl that is very exciting. And FWIW I love the name Natatlie!

Lorien-That's an exciting possibility for the weekend. People keep telling me to deliver on the weekend so they can come to the hospital, ha, ha. I'd probably get more down time if it was during the week!

Hmmm...there are things on your lists I don't have...I figure that's what my mother is for after the baby comes--she'll be dying to help!

bekki, I love the little monkey print. So cute. Good luck tomorrow.

fancyn, Congratulations on the girl! I like Natalie. Yes, the baby is kicking! It was pretty active after my glucose tolerance test and the next day. Yesterday and today has been a tad slower, but I've felt the baby.

Lorien, good luck. Can't wait to hear from you next week. I'm in the same boat as you about doctors. If mine isn't on call, I will end up with someone else. I have been seeing some of the other doc's in the practice. I like them all, especially the one I saw on Monday. I would still rather mine!

mabvt, very exciting. That is fun having your students cheer you on.

Everything is fine on our end, except I can't get my wedding ring off  and I'm getting nervous. I have no idea why I didn't do this earlier. I just tried a TON of lotion and it starting cutting off my circulation around my knuckle. grrr. I just asked one of the nurses I work with and she told me to hold my hand up to let the blood flow out of my finger, then run under hot water to get the silver to swell a bit, and then put a bunch of butter on my finger. I didn't think I would have a problem or I would have taken it off a long time ago, but I'm starting to really be able to feel my ring these days. Of course, I'm freaking out that it will cut my circulation off or something .

Everything is fine on our end, except I can't get my wedding ring off and I'm getting nervous.

I took mine off about 2 weeks ago as it was getting unbelievably tight. My nice watch is tight too, so I've stopped wearing it. Hope you can get yours off! I worked with someone once who had to have hers cut off (but she had waited way too long - almost to the end of pregnancy).

Everything is fine here. I "passed' the glucose test, happily.

Yes, the baby is kicking! It was pretty active after my glucose tolerance test and the next day. Yesterday and today has been a tad slower, but I've felt the baby.

I've found that while I feel the baby every day, and at about the same times/patterns every day, some days are stronger and more active than others. Of course, it's something I tend to dwell on (the quieter periods).

Congrats on finding out about a baby girl! I love the name Natalie and had it on our girl-name list.

Good luck to those who are getting close!

Lorien - How exciting. I wish you an eventful couple of days resulting in a healthy and happy baby girl! :) It's been a long road.

Mabvt- I hope you get a few days to yourself before the baby comes, but if you don't... good luck!

Fancyn - Congrats on the girl! :) How funny that her big bro was so in the know.

Bekki - the images are very cute. Do report back on your big boys... got to see where mine compares. Do they think you'll go full-term?

Pony - I too had ring troubles around 24/25 weeks. After one day where I really had to fight to get it off, I took it off and bought a larger plain ring at an outlet mall. Best $85 dollars I've spent so far I think. I miss my diamond ring, but i tried it on the other day and it wouldn't even go past my knuckle. My knuckles have been swollen (I guess) and mildly painful for much of the pregnancy... I just hope that they'll go back as I love my (real) wedding band. Although this one will be useful too as it's a plain white gold skinny band. Easy to ... clean... as accidents happen. ;)

We met with the first of 3 pediatricians this AM. Of course I got the day wrong (despite calling to make the appt yesterday - I've got pregnancy brain big time these days. Poor DH doesn't understand it at all!) But they were nice enough to squeeze us in with another doctor, but not the one that DH was hoping to meet. We liked the practice, but want to keep our other appointments too. And then hopefully we'll have a favorite....

I got my (preservative free) flu shot today. ouch. :(

And I did a little damage at Buy Buy Baby - something for the shower I'm going to on Saturday (No, not mine! ), something for a friend's 1 year old (a month late... it's taking us that long to find a time to get together) and something for baby boy. Everyone's happy!

Keep the baby toiletry recs coming! We ordered a burt's bees "getting started" pack to try when we ordered from Diapers.com this week. And I picked up butt paste (small tube as you're not supposed to need it often/use it with cloth diapers) but otherwise... we don't know what to get! I know Aveeno also has a baby line of lotions/shampoos etc. And the classic Johnson and Johnson.

Hi Everyone,
I guess it wasn't meant to be for us. I had my 16 week check-up and ultrasound today and there was no heartbeat. The baby stopped growing a couple weeks ago, which makes me feel crazy because I've still been having pregnancy symptoms- in fact I threw up for only the second time this past Saturday. We are obviously devastated. We had to go through fertility treatments to get pregnant, and this was the furthest we had come. I am somewhat comforted by the fact that we know now what worked to get pregnant, so we won't have to go through the whole trial and error rigamarole again.

I'm having a D&C on Monday. I really wish it could have been sooner but what are you gonna do.

I wish all you ladies happy and healthy pregnancies, and will definitely be lurking to see all the new mommies and babies!

((((Kim)))) I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending you and your DH many healing thoughts.

I don't have much to report so far this month- had a dr. appt. last week that went well. My weight is good, baby is measuring right on, heartbeat sounded good. DS declared on Friday that he hopes our baby will be a bear cub. :p  He's going to be very disappointed. Baby is movin' and groovin' and seems to be most active from 3 AM to 5 AM- great.

Our medicine cabinet essentials for DS were:

Cotton balls (for early diaper changes)
Diaper ointment- Boudreaux's Butt Paste and/or Calmoseptine for severe rashes- Calmoseptine is not actually solely a diaper cream and is sold with first aid supplies.
Infant Tylenol drops (go for the dye-free kind and make your life easier!)
Infant Motrin drops
Baby nail scissors (never used clippers, or the mittens either)
Thermometer- we have two. A digital rectal one (with disposable covers) and a temporal artery one. I like the temporal artery one a lot.
Mylicon drops- I don't know if these truly helped or not, but we did use them.
Johnson's baby wash
Aveeno baby lotion- for dry patches during winter
Balm- can't remember the brand now, but like a chapstick for the face. DS was always getting a chin rash from drool/spit up, and the balm helped prevent it.

We were very lucky health-wise DS's first year- a few ear infections and one fever episode, but no real colds. Never used the nasal aspirator. I also dislike heavily scented products so Heather, I'll be curious to hear what you think of the Burt's Bees diaper cream. The lavender scent about killed me.

Sarah, congrats on having a boy!!!

Stephanie, thanks for the list!

Not much going on here. FINALLY got my ring off on Thursday. I had to use butter and peanut oil for it to get past my knuckle. ha! I had to go to the podiatrist, b/c I have an ingrown toenail :(. So, he numbed my toe and I started thinking about labor. I hate the feeling of not being able to feel my toe right now. (just went today). It freaks me out, so then I start thinking about not being able to feel my legs during labor. However, the pain scares me too. :p I was talking to a nurse at the office and she was telling me how her 3 babies were delivered w/in 1 hour after her water broke. Her sister weighed 102 pounds before she was pg and delivered a 10# baby!!!!!!!!! She had to have a c-section. Her husband was a 13 # baby and his mother had a natural vaginal birth .

Looking forward to hearing from mabvt and lbd!

So the report from Friday's ultrasound is interesting to say the least. Both boys look great, fluid levels are good, cervix is all nice and long. No signs that this mamma is going into labor any time soon.

However, I am offically growing a moose. A huge, big headed moose. Baby A is measuring in the 97th % and is somewhere in the 6 lb range. At 32 weeks! I have friends who's full term babies were barely 6 lbs. His head is also in the 97th %. The sonographer swore up and down that this is just an estimate, and that they're wrong all of the time! So, I'm hoping he's really closer to 5 lbs, or else I'm going to be having a heck of a time getting him out :) I passed 2 gestational diabetes tests, so I can't even blame it on that!

Baby B is much more reasonable, in the 50th% at around 4.5 lbs.

The docs are still a little concerned about the size difference, so I see Maternal Fetal again at 34W, which means I'm offically on a weekly appointment schedule (1 week with the midwives, 1 with the perinatologist).

So, that's the news! Oh, and thanks again for the toiletry lists, it's so helpful!!!

helios7
10-07-2008, 07:23 AM
Bekki - Yikes! My baby boy is only 75%ile. You're winning the big baby boy race! :)

Pony - glad your ring finally came off.

Sarah45 - congrats on the boy! :)

Gertdog - thanks for the toiletry list. We'll see.. the reason we wanted to try the Burt's Bees stuff is that my mother-in-law often gives ME Burt's bees stuff. So we figured if we like it, then she can channel that energy into the baby and everyone will be happy. But the bottles are tiny - travel sized so we haven't made a big committment.

Loriend and Mabvt are suspiciously quiet.....:p Any news to report ladies?

As for me, just hanging out. My fingers are really bothering me .. they've been swollen for a long time (hence the removal of my ring in August) but lately they've been hurting in the knuckles more and more. Maybe I'm getting arthritis.... that would be fabulous. Hopefully it'll pass once the baby comes.

Balm- can't remember the brand now, but like a chapstick for the face. DS was always getting a chin rash from drool/spit up, and the balm helped prevent it.

Yes Stephanie! What a great thing I forgot. We used Aquaphor by Eucerin. Love it! It's great esp. for winter babies. Helps protect and treat windblown and/or chapped cheeks from the cold, along with the drool rash :D. Even worked great as a diaper rash cream.

Congrats on the boy Sarah!

Pony, a 13# boy?!? Agh, that sounds miserable. Glad the ring came off naturally before it was too late!

Bekki - Wow, those boys are big for twins! Keep us posted as to what the docs say.

Helios - sorry your fingers have been so sore. Have you asked your doc?

Nothing new here, just chugging a long. I feel huge. Not baby wise, but fat wise. :( The doctor keeps telling me my weight gain is perfect, and while the numbers are fine, I just feel like it "looks" significant. I really just need to get over it...

Hi Everyone...I have not been able to post much lately, but I am still hangin in there. I keep hoping this baby will debut a little earlier because things are starting to get really cramped and uncomfortable. I have a really painful, sore, sometimes numb spot at the top of my belly on the right side. It is driving me nuts and there seems to be no relief except to get the baby out. I would love to have the baby a little before Halloween...is that asking too much?!?!?

Glad to hear that everyone else is chugging along. When I hear everyone talking about nurseries and baby names, I tend to panic a little, since we have done NOTHING this time around. I have no bags packed, no names picked (we need boy and girl, since we do not know gender) and nothing planned for the baby's room. I did move our two older DDs together, so I do have the nursery emptied out at least!

Wow, Bekki...cannot believe the size of Baby A! I hope everything evens out a bit with the size differential. If it is any consolation, I was told DD2 would be 7 lbs and she did not even hit the 6lb mark, so it really is not an exact science.

I have not been able to wear my rings either lately...actually I don't feel like wearing much of anything. I am so SICK of my maternity clothes and I am not about to buy anything else. I walk around with my shirt tucked into my bra at home because the fabric really irritates that sore spot on my belly....lol...I am sure I look so divine!

Did anyone see the news that a fan in baby's room can help with reducing SIDS risk? We have always used fans for noise cancellation, but nice to know that it may have an additional benefit.

Looking forward to hearing some exciting baby news!

Hello everyone!

This month is really moving quickly for me- lots going on at work and at home. I'm sittin' here at 18 weeks and feeling pretty good, actually. Everyone keeps telling me to enjoy it now, because I won't always feel this good. :p

We had our 18 week ultrasound yesterday. It was amazing to see all those tiny little body parts...The doctor was able to reduce our chance of Down's based on the measurements they took, so that was encouraging. He told us we have a 1/180 chance now. DH and I had come to terms with our 1/96 odds, so hearing this just made us feel even better. We have decided to leave the baby's gender a surprise, so no news to report there. :)

I still haven't told my students (3rd grade) that's I'm pregnant yet. I am going to try to hold out until Halloween and plan something kind of fun to tell them. I'm a little worried that they'll figure it out because the teachers I work with talk freely about my pregnancy now within earshot of the kids, but they haven't caught on yet. Eight year olds have better things to do than pay attention to adult conversations, I guess!

Congruatulations, on your baby girl, fancyn!

And, congratulations on your baby boy, Sarah45!

Bekki, It sounds like you have a big boy brewing in there! Keep us posted on any news!

Helios,Thanks for asking about toiletry lists. I have been saving the information people have added. Sorry your fingers are bothering you!

Pony,Sorry to hear about the toenail. I've been there done that, and its not fun. On the other hand, glad to hear you were able to get your rings off. I haven't had to take mine off yet, but there are days when my hands are puffier than others, so I might not be far off!

Luv to Cook,Sorry to hear about your mysterious belly pain. I'll be sending you Pre-Halloween delivery wishes!

Have a good week!

Neal John was born on his due date--Monday, October 6 at 12:45.
He measured in at 9 pounds, 11 ounces and 20 inches.

My water broke on Monday morning at 6:45. I jumped out of bed (it didn't even have time to get wet!:D) and called DH. We were at the hospital by 8 where things progressed very quickly. Upon admission I was dialated to four, by the time I got to L & D I was dialated to 6. There was hardly any time at all bw contractions. I had time for an epidural, rested for about 30 minutes and started pushing around 10:30. I pushed for around 2 hours...and he was born (assisted by the vaccuum!) at 12:45.

It is great to now be home. Last night was a rough night (what, there's no nursery to send him to?) but overall things are going really well.

He is just as precious as can be. We spend a lot of time just staring at him!

I will post a pic soon!

Congratulations Melissa and welcome to Neal John! I'm amazed at how quickly your dilation progressed.

So sounds like due dates are the popular trend because it was also a due date arrival for ...

Abigail Elizabeth! October 7th at 9:25 pm, 8 lbs 5 oz. After a couple periods of mild contractions over the weekend, I was back to nothing Monday and Tuesday morning. Luckily, DH decided to come to my checkup Tuesday afternoon because I was 5 cm dilated, 70-80% effaced, and having contractions every 7 minutes. That was according to the NST monitor - I basically wasn't feeling anything.

My OB had sent over induction orders for the next morning based on prior visits but decided we should go over right away. At the hospital, the contractions actually let up a bit but by then I was at 6 cm and the baby was at 0 station so we decided going home for one night probably wasn't worth it. They let us get some dinner then broke my water just before 7:30. Contractions kicked up big time right away and it was off to the races. I didn't have to push long but there was a delay between contractions that was just excruciating - her head was facing backward but her shoulders weren't twisted sideways so it took a bit to get them out.

We came home yesterday afternoon and were very relieved to be at home and out of the hospital. We're doing well but she's hungry so I've got to run. I'll try to come back and finish soon.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Things here are good. Still feeling great and enjoying the movement. We start our childbirth classes in a couple of weeks. I still need to make an appt. w/ the ped. My MIL sent us a box of cute clothes and some books. :) I think she also bought the bedding, but she doesn't want me to open it until my shower. We went with this neutral design from Target

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51WwPeontSL._SS260_.jpg

The one thing we are trying to figure out is how our dog will do with the baby. We rescued him about a year ago and he really needs to be more socialized. We need to find time and $$$ to get him trained.

bekki-glad your appt. went well. I got a laugh when you said you were growing a moose. :)

helios7-When I wake up, I've noticed my hands ache pretty bad. It does go away, but something new I've noticed.

fancyn-I'm glad things are going well.

Luv to Cook-sorry about the sore spot on the belly. Hopefully, you will get your wish of welcoming the baby early!

kabs-I'm glad you are enjoying this time in the pg. I am too! Congratulations on the better odds! We aren't finding out the gender either. Have people started to guess? I think it is fun. A lot of people are thinking boy b/c of the way I'm carrying. Have your students figured out yet?

Sarah45-glad you are feeling good!

Lorien and Melissa--yippie for new babies! Thanks for keeping us posted and I hope the new additions are doing well!

Michelle-- RE: the dog vs. new baby. Smart of you to think about that ahead of time. I found a good article with the Dog Whisperer (I just love him) that gave me some things to think about:
http://www.wikifido.com/page/Cesar's+Way:+Bringing+Home+Baby?t=anon

Our pup is fairly well behaved, but more than anything, I worry about him getting enough exercise when the babies come. It'll be terrible weather, plus of course, two babies and all that. Poor little guy has been our baby for over 4 years, and he's about to move way down the totem poll :o

My SIL loves the Dog Whisperer and kept encouraging us to write him to get on the show :D. Charlie was obviously abused and has some social anxiety when it comes to humans. I think he has come a LONG way in the past year, but we still tell everyone that comes over to just let him come to you. He does fine that way. Thanks for the link.

mabvt - Welcome Neal John! WOW, he was a big baby!! Congrats on such a short and sweet delivery. I hope mom and baby are doing well!

lbd - Welcome Abigail Elizabeth! Sounds like you also had a short and sweet delivery - very exciting! How is life with 2 now?

Pony - before we had DS, we have a seemingly bipolar cat that is sweet as a button one minute and pretty much psycho the next. We were concerned how she'd act around the baby too. When he was a newborn she was curious but kept her distance. Now they are BFFs and she's his protector. I know dogs are WAY different then cats but my point is maybe he'll surprise you. :)

We're still debating the nursery. DH wantsa classic "girly-girl" room where as I want more chic. With DS, he didn't care a bit how I decorated. Gotta run now but when I get a second, I'll post what we're looking at!

Hope everyone is well.

Congrats lbd and a huge welcome to Abigail!! :D

So, I have really started to give some serious thought into my must haves for the baby. As I see things I like I've been adding them to the Babies R Us "wish list" so I have most of it in one place. Things not available on BRU I have bookmarked. So, I went on BRU yesterday and they have completely gotten rid of the wish lists. All that stuff I have saved - poof - it's gone. As a first time Mom I loved having it all in one place and I could add to it as I heard about stuff. Now I have to try and remember all the things on my list. I am VERY annoyed

Rant over :) My research this week has been centered around infant car seats. The Baby Bargains book recommends the Graco SafeSeat and Snugride and I was already leaning toward the Safeseat because of the increased weight limit. But here's my question. I'm 5'3 and DH is 5'8 so we aren't huge people. Are we really going to need the higher weight limit? So far the baby is right around the upper 40%s in length etc. according to the US last week. Since the Snugride (and other lower weight limit seats) tend to weigh less, are less bulky, fit better in shopping carts, etc. should I be looking at those? (Of course safety is still the #1 priority but all other things being equal those conveniences might be enough to push one way or the other)

Another thing I guess I didn't realize until recently, once the baby outgrows the infant seat we would move him to a carseat that can rear-face & front-face so it really doesn't matter if it's at 22lbs or 30lbs, right??

Thanks for any thoughts!! :D

Michelle - I love that nursery set, it always catches my eye at Target.

We are piecing together our nursery design. We are centering it around primary colors and are leaning towards black furniture but that's as far as the planning has gone. I want to pick out green curtains first so I know if I am going towards a lime or a kelly green (the wall opposite curtains will be green) but so far, no luck. I love seeing pictures of other people's nurseries :)

Sarah, I was overwhelmed by all the choices and items to get for the baby. I've been adding a bunch of things to my registry as a "wish list" and will add things people mention. Then I go back to it and decide if I want it or not. I sent out a bunch of emails to my dear friends who are moms and got a lot of opinions from them. Very helpful!! I can't believe you lost your "wish list". That sucks! I was going to go w/ a Graco carseat, but we ended up with a Chicco. I was going back and forth about the weight/height limit thing and decided I did want one that had an upper weight limit. Chicco is a safe one and we went w/ that b/c we liked the colors better . ;)

I love kelly green! Can't wait to see pics of your nursery.

This is what my Mom suggested I do but I have a few overanxious relatives who keep searching for my registry and asking about when it's going up so there's no way I want to put anything up that I am not sure about. I created a Google spreadsheet with links and I think I remembered everything but I'm sure that I will think of other things.

Congrats to new moms lbd, willybean and Melissa!!!

Re: carseats- we had the Graco SnugRide for DS and I really liked it, especially the ease with which it snapped in and out of the base (we put one base in each car for convenience). However, he did outgrow it quickly. DH and I are both average height, and DS was pretty average in terms of both height and weight at birth (7 lbs. 9 oz.) but he grew FAST and was off the weight charts by 6 months. He was in a rear-facing convertible seat long before his first birthday because he passed the 22 lb (?) weight limit. (Now, at age 3, he's back on the charts, having only gained 2 lbs. but several inches between age 2 and age 3! I swear they grow like inchworms move- short and chubby, then long and lean. Short and chubby, long and lean...)

Will hit the 6-month mark this week. All is well with two exceptions- heartburn, already!! Don't remember it this early with DS, and it is not frequent yet, but when it hits, it hits hard. Good thing there was a coupon for Tums in the paper this week. And also a pinched nerve in my right leg, which means my leg either hurts or goes numb unless I change positions frequently. Makes sleeping fun, and I worry it will get worse and make driving uncomfortable or impossible (if my foot keeps falling asleep!). Also makes it difficult to get in a day's work at the computer since sitting is one of the positions that brings on the worse pain/numbness and I have to get up and walk around frequently.

Other than that, just narrowing down our list of names and looking forward to my next appointment... :)

Hi ladies...

Not much to report here. We met with another pediatrician's office this week, and liked it (possibly even enough to choose). But we have one more to meet with... although I have to call and push it back since we found out last night DH's health insurance provider is changing. When? Oh, November first. Yep, his company gave him a whole 2 weeks notice. Luckily it appears my OB and my general practitioner (who I love and would hate to have to leave) are both covered by the new plan. But the infectious disease doctor I've seen this summer as they try to figure out what's going on on the side is NOT... so now I'll have to find a new one of those. Not a heartbreaking situation but annoying in the last 6 weeks of pregnancy. Not to mention having to figure all the approval stuff out with new company .... ASAP. Needless to say, I would have appreciated them waiting until January first personally ... but I know it isn't all about me.

Baby boy and I had an appointment on Monday, and all was well. The doctor was in a bit of a rush, so I didn't get to find out his heartrate or how he's measuring, but all was well overall.

Tonight we start birthing classes... I'm kind of excited, and kind of scared. It's kind of an intense class - 5 weeks for three hours each night. Then we also have a 3 hour newborn care class this Saturday, and then a breastfeeding class on November 1. So a busy couple of weeks ahead - it's all starting to happen!

Regarding carseats - we also went with the Graco Snugride. He may be out of it sooner then we like, but we liked the versatility. We purchased an attachment that will go with our (just arrived) stroller so the carrier will snap right in.

Stephanie - I've had a little heartburn here and there. At least, I think that's what it is. I've never been a sufferer before. It comes and go, and is a minor annoyance but hasn't been too bad. Glad all's going well!

Sarah45 - I'm sorry you lost your wishlist. That's got to be really annoying!

Pony - the cribset is very cute. How fun to be getting closer!

fancyn - I appreciated hearing how your cat adjusted to your son. I'm intrigued as to how our two cats will handle the baby. I think the older one will take it in stride, but the young one (just over a year) I think will be quite jealous. We'll see...

Congrats to the new mommies and babies!

fancyn

helios - Your welcome. :) We actually had 2 cats when DS was born, and the younger one was around 3 at the time. We thought he'd be the jealous one and act out. He actually kept his distance and almost feared DS. Sadly enough, Shane was dying from fatty liver disease amongst other things and I had to put him down about 3 months ago. Very difficult to explain to a 3 year old - He got sick and had to go to kitty heaven. He's not coming back? No, he's in kitty heaven. Sigh, DS will still randomly say he misses him. And that cat wanted nothing to do with him. :(

Question to everyone: What sorts of birthing classes are you all taking? The ones your practice and/or hospital offers? Is anyone looking into bradley classes? I'm not going to take the hospital one again but I was thinking about trying something a bit different. I wanted a natural birth with DS but after 12 hours of back labor I was semi-forced into an epi. I really want to shoot for the natural again and thought one that was more focussed might help if in fact I have the back labor again. Ideas?

helios7
10-16-2008, 10:32 AM
fancyn - sorry to hear about your kitty. I'm sure explaining that to DS was a challenge.

To answer your class question - we are taking a comprehensive class through a program called Real Birth (http://www.realbirth.com/rbc_pregnancy.php) here in NYC. It's private and pretty intense but we decided it worked better with our schedules and the location (here in Brooklyn vs. at the hospital in Manhattan) was better for us as well. I also let DH pick the format/location as he has the busier schedule. This place is one subway stop past our regular one, so he can get there easily and I can walk. It's also our first time, so I wanted to learn as much as possible. I have a friend who took and liked the class, although she warned me that they are very 'natural" leaning. I already know I'm open to the concept of an epidural, but would love to go natural if it seems possible. In other words, I'm planning to go natural until the point at which I decide an epidural might be a good idea. :) So hopefully this class will help in that regard.

Hope that helps.

As first-time parents we are just going to take the parenting classes at the hospital. I think there are 3 birthing/infant care ones and then the breast feeding class. Actually, we have it on our schedule to sit down with the dates tonight and sign up for the classes - with the holidays the class schedules are a little weird this time of year and I don't want to wait until mid January.

All of my friends who've had babies around here took the hospital classes and recommended them so we are going the easy way. :)

Heather - that stinks about the insurance change but have you read all the fine print? DH's insurance changed twice during and right after my pregnancies. At least some of the notice material said we were entitled to stay with non-participating providers under certain circumstances, including 2nd or 3rd trimester pregnancy. I don't remember the exact wording but it seemed like something we were legally entitled to as opposed to something out of the goodness of their hearts. Don't know how that would work with a specialist who's not PG-related per se but you might have more time than you think.

Our fairly anti-social cat dealt terribly with DS's birth and seems so far to be doing a little better with DD's. After DS was born, we scarcely saw him for several months, and this was in a pretty small apartment. He showed pretty classic symptoms of depression including several pounds of weight gain. He was never aggressive toward the baby, hissed a few times but always in a backing-away defensive posture.

Our vet put it into kitty's perspective well: an infant makes strange noises and sudden random movements without (m)any of the noises and movements regular people make. And as soon as kitty adjusts to one stage, baby starts doing something totally different. So far, we're seeing more of him now than we did with DS (and he's got a lot more places to hide if he were so inclined). So hopefully he learned from DS that the baby's really not a danger and will eventually grow more human-like.

I have a question about road trips. My husband and I are thinking about going to the hill country in November. The only available weekend is the 22nd. I will be 33 weeks pregnant. It is not a long drive, a bit over 2 hours. There are some stretches of nothingness. I see my doctor on the 27th, but might give them a call to see what he recommends. The next weekend is Thanksgiving and we toyed w/ the idea of driving to Alabama to stay with my SIL, but I think the drive is too long. Plus, I want a trip with just him and I, no family ;).

Thanks for all the pet stories.

Things are going well here. We start our birthing classes on Monday. It will be three hours long and we meet four times.

Stephanie-sorry about the heartburn. I haven't had it much, just after big meals. My friend is having a really bad time with it. She is 8 months. Sorry about your leg.

helios7--ahhh, we still need to make an appt. w/ a peditrician. I need to get on that! I hope the insurance change is not a pain. Did you like your class?

fancyn--I'm taking a Lamaze Birthing Class at the hospital. I wanted to take one at this motherhood center, but it is $100 more and I would rather save that money! I'm reading a book right now by Ina May. She is a well known midwife and the book is called Guide to Childbirth. It is a bit over the top, a lot about home births and more of a "hippy" style then what I'm looking for, but I do find it to be very thorough. I checked it out from the library.

Hi Everyone! Congratulations to lbd and willybean! I hope you're settling in nicely with your new little ones!

I just hit 20 weeks. I think I have started feeling the baby move, but I gotta tell you, if it is the baby moving, it feels just like little gas bubbles or one of the other many weird happenings that are going on in my body these days. :p My two wonderful, thoughtful aunts have offered to travel to our house (both live in other states) to help us set up the baby's room as their gift to us. This includes painting, decorating, shopping, all that stuff that seems rather overwhelming to me, so I am very grateful and so thankful that I have them in my life.

I told my third grade class about the baby on Friday. They were really cute about it- and much more excited than I expected them to be. The funniest comment I got was from a little boy in my class that asked if there would have to be a substitute teacher while I was in the hospital for a "few days" having the baby. I broke it to him gently that I would be out for a few months rather than a few days. :)

Pony- I really like your bedding! I'm a sucker for anything polka dots.

gertdog- I sympathize about the heartburn. I have had it since the day I found out I was pg. Some days are worse than others. I notice that it's worse when I lay on my right side than on my left for some reason.

Have a great week, everyone!

Where is everyone??? Hopefully everyone is busy and enjoying themselves. :)

We took our first birthing class on Monday night. I'm very glad we signed up for the 4 week classes vs. the one long day class. There are about 12 couples in the class and all are first time parents. The 2 instructors were really emphasizing working together as partners and how important it is for the husband to be the coach. They were helping the spouses with feeling comfortable in that role. I don't know if I will take any other classes. I think 2Hungry posted this website, but maybe on the new mom's thread, www.pregtastic.com. It has a variety of podcasts relating to many different birthing/breastfeeding/etc. discussions. I had listened to the breastfeeding ones and just started listening to some others.

kabs, congratulations on making it half way!!!! You might be feeling the baby, but I didn't recognize the feeling until around 23 weeks. I can't believe how much stronger and more frequent I feel it now. It is the best feeling. It is amazing watching the baby squirm around and poke here and there when I lay down. I'm so excited to meet this baby, but I will miss this part of the pregnancy so much. That is great that your aunts have offered to help w/ the nursery.

I started feeling the baby at about 19 weeks and this is exactly what it felt like, little bubbles or flutters. Now at 23 weeks they are very definable kicks. DH even felt one last night although he swears that I must have hiccuped cause it was "just too weird" :D

We registered for our childbirth classes today. We are taking a 3-week class in December and signed up with friends of our who are due two weeks before us. Should be fun :) I also want to sign up for the baby basics class and breastfeeding and will do that soon but I don't know if we are going to coordinate that with the other couple or not.

Pony - Thanks for that link, I will definitely check out the podcasts. It's great to have access to so many resources, my mother is constantly amazed at what's available for us.

Ugh, I am SO annoyed right now. The last couple days have been so lame and I've spent far too much time at the doctors! My BP was boarderline high during my NST yesterday, so then I got to spend an extra 2 hours being monitered in Labor and Delivery.

Everytime I go to the doctors, my BP is highish at the begining, and well within normal at the end. Case in point, yesterday I was like 140/93 or something (140/90 is the cut off for "bad"). By the time I left L/D, it was 115/73.

They asked me to come back again today for more bloodwork and a repeat BP/NST. Who wants to guess what happened? (hint: deja vu) And now I get to do a fun 24 hour urine collection. Because during my 3-4 bathroom trips in the middle of the night, I'm certainly awake enough to manage a big jug of you know what. So I get to go back tomorrow to return that, and I have another NST (plus an ultrasound) on Friday.

I have no other symptoms of PIH or pre-eclampsia, except I'm totally a hypercondriac (sp?) and I think I'm thinking myself into a headache. I just feel so lame and annoyed. I know this is all for my own good and I'm going to do everything they ask to make sure the babies and I stay healthy, but honestly, a girl can only take so much :p

In good news, assuming nothing w/ my BP changes or whatever, we have a C-Section date of 11/11. How fun is that for twins! It's so nice having an end date.

Sarah45-Taking a class w/ friends should be a lot of fun. I was thinking of going to a La Leche meeting in Nov. and Dec, since I'm not taking a BF class. I want both of us to take a CPR class and I found a cheaper class at another hospital. I have been listening to some of the older podcasts. I heard one last night where they interviewed a peditrician. Big help to me b/c we need to interview a ped. still.

bekki-AAAHHHH, so sorry you have your last couple of weeks filled with appts! 11/11 is so close. Do you feel ready? :) How far along will you be on 11/11? If you don't mind me asking, why are you having a c-section?

I think we have finally decided on a glider/rocker/recliner thanks to RebeccaT! I was having a hard time finding something we liked that was not $$$$$$. My husband kept picking out these really stylish chairs, which I love, but I said there is no way I'm BF'ing in a $2000 designer chair :p. I knew I wanted something that was higher in the back and reclined. RebeccaT sent me a link of hers and I immediatley went to the store and checked it out. I think it will be perfect!

I keep peeking at my registry ;) and we have already gotten our stroller in the mail and it looks like someone got our carseat! Yay! My MIL and Amanda (sweetpea) sent us some adorable clothes. I love looking at those little things. We really need to get the nursery organized. It is an absolute wreck right now.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Michelle: Yeah, lots of doc visits, but I think it just comes with the territory! I'll be 38 weeks (well, 37 w and 6 d) on 11/11, which is considered full term for twins. It does seem so close, I mean, less than 3 weeks away! And honestly it really could be anytime between now and then, depending on how things go. We better get moving on names :p

We're leaning towards a C-Section because Baby B is transverse (and has been the entire time). I do not feel comfortable trying a breech extraction and there's a few small studies that show an increased danger to Baby B if you go with a breech birth, as compared to a c-section. Also, in all likelyhood, I won't go into labor on my own, and I have NO desire to be induced.

Luckily, I don't have a strong emotional contection to birth, so I'm totally ok with whatever happens. I figure the gift you get is the babies, not the birthing experiance.

I'm here... just being lazy. :)

We had our first birthing class last Thurs, and our second is tonight. I liked the class. Didn't learn so much that I didn't already know (I was an EMT in college) so I know more then the average person about the child birth process. But it was still interesting. We also had the newborn care class last Saturday - that was kind of fun. It taught us about all that happens to babies post-delivery, how to bathe, how to swaddle etc. We got to play with dolls - always fun. My one issue with these classes (or rather the location) is that they're held in a yoga studio. You sit on the floor! For three hours! (with breaks) Granted they give you cushions, mats, blankets etc. But it's not very comfortable at 35 weeks, and I'm wracked with back pain when I get home. I keep experimenting with the props - I have a new composition in mind for tonight. Hopefully it'll help.

I received the invite for my second shower hosted by two friends. It'll be on the 8th. I'm excited... it's just friends and is going to be at the Chocolate Room which is close by here in Brooklyn. How can it not be fun - chocolate and friends? Perfect. The hosts know me so well. :)

And that's really all that's happening... baby boy has been a bit quieter these past couple days but he's got to be running out of room so I'm trying not to panic. I do feel him (sometimes quite strongly) so I keep thinking about that.

I'm definitely very tired - napping frequently (when I can sleep with the construction that has started 50 feet from my bedroom window) and moving slow. Many more days spent at home, feet up and just relaxing. I'm still working out but have dropped back to 4-5 times a week instead of 5-6. I hope that's still okay... for example today I'm not feeling up to it and I think I may pass.

Bekki - sorry the last few weeks are so crazy. But how fun to have a Csection date planned - I wish I knew when baby boy would decide to arrive.

Pony - glad you've got your glider picked out. I was loving ours, until sitting up became rather uncomfortable due to baby boy jamming up under my ribs.

kabs - how fun telling your class! I bet they were excited for you... even if the implications of maternity leave weren't quite clear.

Sarah45- I hope the plans to take the class with friends works out. It sure is a lot of time, it would be nice to get some social time in there too.

Hope everyone else is well...

Hi everyone. Hope everyone is feeling well.

I had my 29 week appt. yesterday. I was worried b/c I had lost 1 1/2 pounds, but the doc said I'm doing perfect and measuring right at 29 weeks, so she wasn't worried. Yay!! The heartrate was 150-154. I was at the park walking on Sunday and a man walking the opposite way pointed at me and says, "you are having a boy, he is down". :D I was at Terri_A's pumpkin carving party and 2 people I had never met told me I was having a boy. However, I was talking to my grandma and she said everyone told her my aunt was a boy. :p I love how everyone is trying to figure this out. I really have no feeling either way.

My shower is this weekend. It is going to be a beautiful Saturday and it is at a cafe which has a nice outdoor patio.

We went to our 2nd childbirth class last night. I think it is a great class. They are not pushing natural or medicated birth, but I would say they lean a bit towards the natural side. Listening to the Pregtastic Podcasts and going to this class has offered a lot of useful information. My husband really likes the podcasts as well, but they definitely lean towards a natural birth. I'm not sure what I want. At this point, I would like to say I will go w/o meds, but I'm totally open to the idea of using medication and won't hesitate to ask if I need them :). The teachers at my class were explaining and showing a video about different stages of labor and how the cervix changes. The video was very helpful. My husband later says to the entire class how he is jealous he doesn't have a cervix. He is very amazed by what is happening to me right now. :D

bekki, hope you are feeling well!

helios7, you are getting close!!! That is too bad about having to sit on the floor! We have some of the worst chairs in my class. We do have birthing balls/yoga balls, so sometimes we get on those. Your shower sounds great. What a great location :) 4-5 times per week of exercise sounds great. You've done such a good job keeping your exercise routine going! I'm impressed.

Well, for all my "I have no symptoms" kavetching, I did develop PIH last week. I no longer have it. Which means.....................................

Our boys were born Saturday, 10/25! Meet William and Andrew:

http://www.adamlyon.com/gallery/d/5861-2/wIMG_0171.jpg

Will is on the left, Andy is on the right (at least I think so! :o If you can't see their size difference, it's a little hard to tell in pictures)

Will was born at 7lbs3oz and 20 inches long. Andrew came in at 5 lbs 11oz. HUGE difference, and no one is totally sure why. But they're both very healthy and happy, so it's ok. I have a feeling Andy will catch up in no time at all.

At some point in the future, there will be birth story details, but I'm simply trying to sleep as much as I can while they do, so I'm limiting my computer play time :)

Andy, and a fat IV bruise on my arm :p

Will had to spend the first 24 hours in the NICU. He got to wear a fun blanket

Congratulations Bekki! Those babies are precious. So adorable - and 7 lbs at 36 weeks. Wow. Hope recovery goes well, and that you enjoy your time with your little men.

A friend who was due 11/12 had her baby last night. She was induced due to preeclampsia, but the baby is doing fine (6lbs and 15 oz). As for me, I feel as though I'm going to be pregnant forever. I've been very uncomfortable this week - what workouts? :( My left hip is killing me, so I'm limping quite badly. My back hurts, I'm SO tired --- the fact I haven't had a good night's sleep in over a year is really catching up to me. DH is sick, so I actually slept on the sofa bed as I just cannot tolerate his snoring... particularly when trying to sleep 4-5 times a night after bathroom breaks. I'm having lots of headaches, and I'm feeling like there's no end in sight! My mother told me that my brother came at 42 weeks - NO!!!!! I'll be 36 weeks tomorrow... hopefully this baby boy will want to come before Thanksgiving. I feel as though I've had a few contractions lately - whether they're stronger Braxton-Hicks or just "warm ups" I'm not sure. But hopefully they'll mean something soon.

Pony - Enjoy your shower! I confess that is the one thing I want to get past- my second shower on the 8th. After that... baby boy can show up anytime. The 9th if he wants to! But enjoy celebrating with friends and loved ones.

Anyone else out there.... the thread has been quiet lately. It's almost November....... :)

They are so beautiful! Congrats bekki!!

I've got my 6 mo (week 24) appt. tomorrow and I imagine that it will be pretty normal. I really feel like I have gained a ton of baby belly weight this month so it will be interesting to see what the scale says. As of my last appt. I had only gained 5 lbs total so I find this disconnect between what I feel I've gained and the actuality pretty interesting.

Mostly I've been spending this week recooperating from our big annual Halloween party. Of course I spent the entire weekend running around decorating, cleaning and cooking fro our 40 guests. By the time I got to bed at 3 a.m. Sunday morning I was completely wiped. :D

Bekki- oh, oh, oh, your boys are just beautiful! Congratulations!

Had my six-month checkup and a flu shot on Monday. All is well- baby boy's heart rate was at 145 and he's been busy. My weight shot up, to my alarm, but it was also an end-of-day appointment and I'd drunk a ton of water before arriving since I can never seem to pee in the cup when they need me to. Got the paperwork for my glucose test- with DS1, I failed the 1-hour and passed the 3-hour- curious to see how it'll go this time. I didn't find the test itself or the juice drink bad last time- just found the wait boring. Am starting to really feel the weight of my belly in my pelvis and hips- fun stuff. Third trimester starts tomorrow!

No birthing classes for us this time around. We just did the hospital one last time and I found it semi-useful. Like Bekki, I'm not particularly attached to any birth method- just give me my baby, please! :)

Bekki -- Congrats times two on the safe arrival of your boys. I also love that first shot of them. too cute!

Helios -- have you asked your doctor whether you could do some physical therapy to alleviate some of the discomfort? I dislocated my shoulder last year and learned from the ortho I saw that I have loose joints and am prone to dislocate my shoulders and hips (that nagging hip pain I've had off and on for years has been it partially dislocating and then slipping back in). Anyway, I finished the PT for that this Spring and I've incorporated some of the exercises into my routine. About 15 weeks, I noticed that the only joint not bothering me was my shoulders. I asked my OB about it and she gave me an order for PT; I've only had a couple of sessions but the home exercises have been really helpful for me. The biggest improvement I've seen is in my hips. Of course, I haven't gained much weight yet, and I've just got a little bump, but I'm hoping that some preventive care might keep me from having too many problems.

I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and had my checkup and ultrasound earlier this week. My husband was sure we were having a girl but we found out we are in fact having a BOY! I had leaned toward thinking it was a boy, but DH seemed so certain he had almost swayed me :p He kept asking the poor tech to review the image because he didn't see what she was seeing and couldn't believe it. It was very cute. Our last name is unusual and he's the only boy in his major trunk of the family tree to still have the last name so everyone is quite excited that we'll be passing it on (never mind that one of his married sisters kept her name  and could also pass it along). But he's also a III and we have made it clear to all that this will *not* be a IV :D Regardless, we were happy to see the baby again and he's right on track and everything is looking good. I'd love another peek before March, but if the pregnancy goes along smoothly, I'll have to wait until he's born as this was the last scheduled ultrasound.

Now that we know the gender, it definitely feels like we can start planning a little more in earnest. DH and I went to a Toys-r-us that has a baby department over lunch and started looking at all the "stuff" you need and I also have the Baby Bargains book and lots of friends offering advice. My mom helped me transform a dresser/desk into a changing table last weekend and we're trying to decide on a crib. I already have both a rocker and rocking recliner so no need for that purchase either -- just need to decide which will go in the room!

Anyone else dressing up for Halloween? We're going to a party at my SIL's house and I'm going to go as a skeleton, with an ultrasound image of the baby on my tummy (printed it onto iron-on fabric). I have a little blue bowtie and rattle that I'll sew onto the image as well now that we know. My belly isn't big enough to do the watermelon or pumpkin painting that I've seen some pictures of. But I did once go as a pregnant Britney Spears (belly courtesy of pantyhose and fiberfil!) but that was as part of a whole group dressing up as singers (and before her 2nd son and subsequent "meltdown").

Bekki- Wow, what gorgeous boys you have! Love the pictures. Congratulations!

Pony- Enjoy your shower this weekend! Sitting outdoors at a cafe sounds lovely about right now. We had our first snow of the season this week! :eek:Can't wait to hear how the shower goes...

Gertdog- I had my flu shot this week, too. First one I've ever had. Tell me, is it a coincidence that I had my shot on Tuesday and woke up Wednesday feeling lousy with a sore throat?

Helios- Sorry you're feeling bad. You're in the home stretch though! Wishing you a few restful nights' sleep before the big day!

EmilyD- I love your Halloween costume! Cute idea.

Not much to report on here-kind of a boring week. Next week is my birthday and we are going out for brunch on Sunday to celebrate with the family. We'll see friends on Friday night, should be a fun weekend. Happy Halloween, everyone! Enjoy your one extra hour of sleep this weekend!

I'll come out and post before the new month starts but there is quite a gap between the last one on the list and my due date!

Maria: 39
David: 35
DD: Madeleine, almost 29 months
EDD: June 12, 2009

I hit 8 weeks today. Not much going on with me other than a bunch of nausea and some bloating. Taking 25 mg of B6 3 times a day (as per the doctor) but it doesn't appear to be helping. I noticed this week that the extra room I had in my pants has already disappeared. I am 6' tall and it took until 15 weeks or so before I needed maternity pants last time. I can see it happening earlier this time.

We had an ultrasound last week and saw the heartbeat and the little one and was told all looks good. I had an appt this week with my OB nurse for the general information appointment, bloodwork and a flu shot. First doctor appointment is in 2 weeks.

That's about it from here.

Welcome Maria! Hope things continue to go well.....

I had to go to childbirth class solo last night. DH was (is) sick. It stunk as 45 minutes of the class was massage techniques practice, which as I was solo I couldn't participate in. The teacher did use me as a demo, but she needed to float and advise. :( I was so looking forward to DH learning that part! I did take lots of notes though. :o

Kabs - boring is good. Happy bday! I felt kinda poorly after my flu shot, although nothing as distinctive as a sore throat. Just general malaise.

EmilyD - Thanks for the PT rec, but between changing insurances tomorrow (), and being 36 weeks, I think I"ll just lump it. I don't have far to go, I'm not working so I'm able to rest a lot and I'll just keep hoping he wants to come at 38, or 39 weeks. :) Congrats on joining the boy club!

Stephanie - glad all is going well. My weighins are pretty scary these days although the weight gain is finally more normal then it was in the second tri. I can[t believe how much weight went on in the second tri! Hopefully this little guy will take to breastfeeding easily and be a big eater! :)

Sarah45 - I'm tired just hearing about your weekend. Hopefully the scale will be kind to you too!

helios7, I'm sorry you are having a difficult time these last few weeks, but you will done very soon!!! I'm so excited for you, your month is here!!!!
Sorry about having to go alone to your class. Sounds like you could have really used that massage! Our class has us massage our spouses as well. So, you can massage your husband and show him what he needs to do :D:D

Sarah45, hope your appt. went well today.

Stephanie, welcome to the third trimester :)

EmilyD, congratulations on having a boy!!! My husband is the 3rd as well and he is not wanting to have a IV. I almost wish he would, b/c we are having a hard time picking out boy names ;) Have fun dressing up!

kabs, I'm so glad we have no snow!! ;) We used to live in Chicago, so I'm very familiar w/ the cold/snow. It is supposed to be in the 80's tomorrow, so I'm actually worrying I will be hot in my dress tomorrow!

Maria, yay!!!! Congratulations. I'm always following you ladies on the TTC thread. Looking forward to our other member joining us soon ;).

Not much going on here....I am 30 weeks today. So amazed by this. I still can't believe I'm wrapping up this pregnancy. I'm finally getting my hair trimmed today. I haven't gotten a hair cut since before I found out I was pg! Shower is tomorrow, yay!!! Our house is a mess right now and I'm not sure what to do with all my gifts. :p I need to get my flu shot next week and make an appt w/ the peditrician. That is about it for me!

Hi all,

Just a quick update to say we are having a BOY! Had our ultrasound on Halloween, and all went well. At least it went well after we got into the ultrasound room. We got there at 8:15 for my 8:30 appointment, sat around for a half an hour, and then the nurses called me to the front desk to tell me my appointment had been canceled yesterday. "Had anyone called to tell me?" Um, no, and if they had, why would I be sitting in the waiting room. So, we finally figured out the central scheduling had messed up something, and they got us in at 10 a.m. Note to the wise: Do not do this to a pregnant woman who has been anticipating the appointment for weeks! I was soo mad! Not to mention that we had to get the kids up extra early and off to daycare and my DH and missed an entire morning of work.

But, I guess all's well that ends well, right.

Now, on to planning. Gabe is excited about having a little brother. I'm trying to explain to him that little brother will not be able to play Transformers for a lonnnnnngggg time.

Well, I suppose it is time for me to join the thread. I am due with my 4th child on May 4, 2009. I am currently 14 weeks and still feeling the nausea. I am hoping that it goes away soon.

I am a bit high risk as i have had a pre-term labor with all of my children and my daughter was born at 30.5 weeks.

I am on Zofran for the nausea but it still is pretty yucky in the afternoon/evenings.

I have had 4 ultrasounds already as my hormone levels were off in the beginning but since this was a big surprise as we weren't planning any more children, I wasn't sure of my dates which was a factor too.

Baby seems to be doing well and hopefully the sick feelings will go away soon as if I remember correctly from my previous pregnancies it started to go away around now.

We don't plan on finding out the sex, although everyone else wants us to find out!!

So far it has been a bit stressful overall, but we are excited if not still in shock that we will soon have another wonderful child to love.

Lisa
